Not going to happen but best centre depth of all time

Description
Before you start ripping me I know this isn’t going to happen. But in a hypothetical world, if islanders are a mess this season, and Tavares doesn’t seem like he’s going to sign an extension, could you imagine if the penguins payed up and added his services as a 1 year rental to really go for the cup? Now if this did happen... there would be a lot of teams that would outbit Pittsburgh and that aren’t division rivals (Ottawa, Montreal, St. Louis, etc...) so don’t rip me on this because I KNOW THIS ISNT GONNA HAPPEN but this is armchair GM

Yesss I agree. Sure I also agree with the others that Tavares is worth a lot but not the return they think he can get. It's all wishy washy right now because of Sakics unrealistic expectations for duchene I guess. Which is a good prospect, first round pick, and a good young defenseman. Tavares is probably worth this amount, prospect, 1st and a good player like hornqvist. The thing is, in real life, especially at the deadline, players are moved in a trade where there's a clear winner like the Larsson for Hall trade. A washed up 40 pts duchene (former 80pts guy) can go for a 2nd rounder only maybe at the deadline. Tavares can get maybe what I said earlier or might even go for less. The expectations of fans on here and the guy that made this thread that gave up too much for Tavares because of other people pushing him to put down more is ridiculous. It's then getting close to the kind of trade that saw a young Wayne Gretzky in his prime get moved. Which included Gretzky and 2 other players, for a young good player, a prospect, 3 first round picks and cash. Tavares would probably go for around the same value as the kessel trade. And maybe some of those other teams can give more than Pittsburgh or maybe they can't because they don't want to move certain players. Plus if Tavares moves to Pittsburgh, he's guaranteed a Stanley cup. Even though I think this is an overpayment, still love the idea of Pittsburgh getting Tavares so thumbs up.

I agree, its an overpayment but man... like u said, this pit team would be unstoppable. if Pitt is chasing cups for the immediate future with their window wide open, this would put them well over the top. imagine the nightmare teams would have to face with a line matchup like this. back in 2016 when they were playing their best, the HBK line was a nightmare for teams to match up against. now replace boninno with Tavares... you're now rolling 3 elite first lines.
guz- sid sheery
rust- geno - hornqvist
hagalin - tavares - kessel

while no team is guaranteed a cup no matter how good they are (this isn't basketball) I just couldn't see any teams being able to have success in making line matchups against that top 9.

Actually it seems one of the more reasonable trades for JT. The picks are years away, and Sprong is in the AHL right now, but appears to be NHLer soon. Jarry might be an NHLer. Isles management may not like the trade as it seems to say, "We have no hope this season." Not what you what to tell your paying customers who might stay away from the rink even more than they do now.
This trade can wait, and the Isles might do "if they are out of it." Remember last year they finished just one point out of the playoffs. For the Pens, do you really want Niemi as the backup? Is there another NHLer in the AHL with Jarry gone?

This would be a great team but would like to change the lines a little bit --
Jake - Sid - Rust
Hagelin - Malkin - Hornqvist
Sheary - Tavares - Kessel
Wilson - McKegg - Reaves

If the Pens didn't resign Horny - they could offer JT 7Mil/8years if he wanted to stay on a team that would be the favorite to win the cup for the next 3 years

Penguins are in win now mode and while this seems like crazy, I would love it it if I it came true. Crosby and Geno aren't getting any younger and when they are done producing (even though it will be awhile) the championship window will close.

It's all about collecting cups rights now, we'll worry about the future later.

Pens are nowhere near needing to rebuild so draft picks should absolutely be used to convey cup runs and with Tavares added, they'd be #1 again.

Their picks will end up being 31st overall anyway and Pitts already has Murray so Jarry is a player they can afford to lose. If it was me, I would absolutely do this trade.
