Just rebuild already!! Its time. Stop delaying the inevitable!

Created by: F50marco
Team: 2017-18 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 11, 2017
Published: Oct. 11, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Fayne, Mark
  2. Nugent-Hopkins, Ryan
  3. 2018 3rd round pick (EDM)
EDM
  1. Davidson, Brandon
  2. Galchenyuk, Alex
Additional Details:
Somebody already mentioned a Nuge for Galchenyuk 1 vs 1 trade and it seems like good deal for both teams according to a few people so let's just assume that's a go. I added Davidson back to EDM in exchange for taking Fayne's cap of their hands, for doing this they bump Davidson's trade value from a 4th to a 3rd. EDM saves 3.3M on their cap as a result and gain good players in the process. Win / Win.
2.
MTL
  1. Gáborík, Marián
  2. 2018 1st round pick (LAK)
Additional Details:
LA has serious cap issues and Gaborik will be a burden for them soon. Habs take that albatross conttract off their hands giving them extra cap to sign guys like Doughty, etc. They also get Plekanec to help with the playoff run they might have this year (@50% too) . LA loses Gabby's contract, gets a healthier replacement, saves money and cap, in return they bump MTL's 2nd rounder to a 1st rounder.
LAK
  1. Plekanec, Tomas ($3,000,000 retained)
  2. 2018 2nd round pick (CHI)
3.
MTL
  1. 2018 6th round pick (ANA)
  2. 2019 6th round pick (ANA)
  3. 2020 6th round pick (ANA)
Additional Details:
TDL moves to whichever team needs depth (Not necessarily Anaheim) - Trade for late picks if possible, if not it can be conditional trades where the team only gives a draft pick if those players play a certain amount of game sin the playoffs. Either way this is not important, they can be all for free for all i care.
4.
ARI
  1. Pacioretty, Max ($2,250,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Yeah yeah yeah Pacioretty sucks, except he has more goals than 99% of the league since 11-12 all while playing for a defensive minded team playing alongside Desharnais as his center for most of it. Not to mention that ARI wants to compete this year and needs some offense. Just a reminder no one on the current Coyotes lineup has ever scored 30 goals in a season before. Patches has done it 5 times already. Strome hasn't even stuck with Arizona's team yet after 3 attempts. Duclair is a pariah since last year. Richardson's cap is almost the same as Pacioretty's for this year and next since Im retaining 50%.

5.
MTL
  1. Orpik, Brooks
  2. 2018 1st round pick (WSH)
  3. 2018 3rd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
I'm sure they probably won't do this but at least look at it creatively. Orpik is more expensive, slower, older then Alzner. This move is basically making Alzners contract way cheaper to afford which is something that was the lead reason for not resigning Alzner in the first place. So WSH gets a better dman and one they know has chemistry with the team. They get rid of Orpik and his silly contract. They add a former 1st round pick in Scherbak who under the right circumstance might reach is potential in WSH. If Hamonic is worth a 1st and two 2nd rounders. Alzner+Scherbak is worth a 1st and a 3rd plus MTL takes on Orpiks bad contract.

We have the cap space to keep Faynes contract plus it ends this year, if there was 2 years left it would make more sense considering our cap crunch is next year

Its not only about cap space with teams though. Its about actual dollars being saved. Money saved from Fayne's contract directly goes back into the owners pocket after which he just finished giving 20M to two players. Us fans don't give two snits about the financial constraints but owners do. It makes a difference to them. Either way, its nit picking at macro scale. Davidson is an upgrade over Fayne as any Oiler fan would know and a 3rd round pick to get him back while losing Fayne's should not a big deal.

F50marco, what would you say about a Galchenyuk / Anisimov trade? AA has a slightly lower cap hit, but 1 more year to his term. He's a centerman, AG probably needs a different set of scenery...what better (for him at least) than opposite Kane?!?!

It would be a no just out of principle. Galchenyuk is definitely in need of a change of scenery but that doesn't mean he should be sold off cheaoer than he worth. (Similar to Duchene in Colorado and Drouin a couple years ago) Galchenyuk is slick scorer but this team is just crushing him. he'll go somewhere else where they will deploy him correctly and will flourish. Plus If Anisimov is a 40+ pt guy playing with Kane and Panarin, doubt he is very good with Gallagher and Lehkonen.....
