Lol, I'm honestly not trying to sound like a dick per se here.. but I can't stop laughing.. Look I'ma just be blunt and direct here, when it comes to Sports and Trades you get one of these three usually, Skilled/Young Talent, Draft Pick(s), or Cap Relief, sometimes you will get a minor 2nd of the 3 in a large trade. But Not like the described above or even MORE commented on in the posts following(more?? Mind = Blown).. Even with retaining 50% of Nash's Cap you don't get a 2nd Round Draft Pick ALONE let alone a 2nd Plus a 3rd. I mean you could retain his ENTIRE cap hip and not get a 2nd+3rd, he's 34 (that's 34 YEARS old), and a 2nd at best, 3rd pairing Wing at this stage in his career(showing it clearly in speed loss, and shot attempts resulting in goals).. a rental(can go anywhere next year)..not a top end draft prospect pick let alone 2 of them!.. I mean I've seen some mind blowing Hopes by my fellow Rangers fans but that one made me chuckle.. Nash is one of those pieces a team will trade/sign to a 1-year deal at $1 mil to give some experience/leadership in the locker room sure, and a punch to a young 2nd/3rd line that lacks that older experience. Or sure he can go to a non contender and get another 3yr contract for a few mil more. That's his choice next year. But, let me say this, Be Completely Happy with a, A meaning singular, 3rd Round Draft Pick for Nash, with retaining 1/3-1/2 his salary. **Obviously the more/less $ retained, the higher/lower the draft pick we get. See back to my first statement on what you receive in most trades.
Second, I'll keep this brief with what's to come below (ha!), Holden is not worth a 3rd Round Pick. Period. A 30 year old 3rd Pair/Not Even Playing 7th D-Man RENTAL, he's a UFA next year remember?, at this time in the NHL is NOT getting you a 3rd Round Pick/Talent back. Settle for the 5th, at this point 6th Round Pick player/salary dump that he is and now you have half the problem of Staal/Holden mistakes/taking minutes/screwing with 3 line D-combos, halfway solved. I rather a Pick for Holden though a young overseas winger works too.
Alright, So, I debated for a good whole 5 seconds of mind-blowness' which of the suggested trade values was more 12th Dimension-thinking Worse. Nash or Zucc. And I Slapped myself out of the Nash stun and realized that the Quality of what must be smoked.. to think this Zucc trade is something NHL GMs even LAUGH about at 2am in hotel bars during meetings is Not even POSSIBLE! Let's go over this in 'Be An Actual GM Class' K?
Mats Zuccarello, this is Zucc, Stepan's gone, you're probably a couple young Rangers fans or maybe just don't follow hockey that much, the 'casual' Rangers fan(s), that to put it nicely.. just don't understand how GM'ing a team/Trades work in reality. You probably barely knew or don't want to really remember the "hurt"(lol) of the Dubinsky/Callahan/Hagelin/ trades because Oh-Em-Gee as the kids say these days Those are my Rangers I know and Love!! (-Yawn) I get it. It's OK to feel attached and passionate, this is Sports I Love Sports, they come before my girlfriend, work, money, family,.. well at least sometimes I would like to think they do, Haha. Stepan hurt you're grieving. Zucc/Henriq/McDonaugh are what's holding you together right now. Cool, again I get it. But valuing a 30-year old Winger for Not only a top prospect, (the goalies are a wash for the most part), But a 1st Round Draft Pick??? No.., No matter if its the 31st Overall Pick it's STILL a 1st Round Pick! (Look at #21. New York Rangers - Filip Chytil, C, #22. Edmonton Oilers - Kailer Yamamoto, RW, #30. Nashville Predators - Eeli Tolvanen, RW, all possible top talents, that were found at the Bottom end of the Draft) To add another, and an example to educate, since this is GM class.. take the draft night trade of Pick #27. Philadelphia Flyers Morgan Frost, C, -- for-- St. Louis Blues C Brayden Schenn, Schenn is ONLY 26, 4 years younger than Zucc, and his last 4 years have gone only UP in terms of production, @22 20/21/41, @23 18/19/47, @24 26/33/59, @25 25/30/55. Zucc is being paid $4.5 mill thru next year. Schenn is a Steal at $2.5 mil this year PLUS 2 more years. So you have a top line C/LW who is 4 years younger in his prime, on an almost 50% cheaper contract, being traded for the #27 pick in a draft. That's the 27th, Twenty Seventh, PICK in the Draft. Understanding Value Picks/Young(er) talent better now?
I just don't see Any NHL GM/Team giving up one of their top prospects, and a 1st Round Draft Pick for a Winger on the Wrong side of 30, even With the salary dump of Orpik coming back, and retaining $2.5 on Zucc... I mean come on guys, you all literally just saw it also from the Rangers in a trade what it takes, like the Schenn deal outlined above, or a 1st line C in Stepan, in his prime at 27, on the Right side of 30, PLUS a starting quality young proven goaltender in Raanta, get traded as the cost of a 1st Round draft pick albeit higher up, and DeAngelo, who though I like, was a cast off problem case 3rd pairing D prospect, that is now not even in the press box as he's sent down 2 weeks into the season. Take Raanta/DeAngelo out of the deal and you're left with about a #14-18 1st Round Draft Pick for Step.
That's how much Young, cheap, talented prospects, or what it takes to get those prospects in top end of the draft pick selection is worth in Sports and today's NHL.
When I started this post I definitely did not expect all this, and hope it's not taken wrong, some ppl see paragraphs in today's internet and immediately just hate on the post. But yes I am a little older (30) and yes a life-long can still actually remember our last Cup, Rangers fan. Through and Through. My Rangers I felt the way the above posters do were Graves, Leetch, Mess, BeukaBoom, Kovalev, Richter, Verbeek, Zubov, Nedved, Robitaille, some players great or not stay with a team longer than others, All Trades are not equal, all GM's are not as smart and intelligent as the next.. But putting that aside, in today's NHL as is any Sports team the bottom line is the almighty $Dollar$, and how many of those it costs to Win in the end. Some teams/GMs go farther than others sure. But there is still a Salary Cap, and with that said the Highest Premium will always be put on Draft Picks/Young Talent compared to older proven talent that you have to pay X amount of times more millions of dollars for X amount of years more. I mean damn, IE. LV GKs would be next semester's class on GM Drafting 101. So, ****. I need a smoke after this for sure. ****.. ha. Thoughts on the team? Sucks were not performing to out quality we have. AV either needs to set lines, or be gone. No team can play with 0 D-pairings that stick more than 2 games, or Top 9 Forwards literally jumping and dropping 3 lines up/down a night. His coaching these first dozen or so games is almost as mind blowing as these trade values lol.. Sorry had to.. But yeah. Put the KZB line back intact as it should be, I mean Christ AV you even can **** that up?? I'd like to see what Nash/Miller/Zucc can do over time together, along with Vessey/Hayes/Grabner with a Strong D-Pairing to offset them and cover the mistakes. Until we can get rid of Holden for whatever he is worth, bring DeAngelo back up, and some later in the season Staal deal at the trade deadline to a team looking for a D-man, I don't think trying to put together a mediocre, that's what 4th lines are.. 4th line is truly our most important thing at this point. We have 3 wins and 8 points in 14 games! Get the KZB line back together, a strong Experienced gel together 2nd line, with a young talented 3rd line that won't give up crazy goals and can hold their own. Play the 3 lines the TOI they SHOULD have, meaning a LOT. And piece together that 4th line with Desharnais/Fast, who should hold their own, with whoever else we got atm and let's play the next couple weeks with Coherent, Set Lines, that players can build on with linemates/style of play/experience.
Though we all know that's probably not going to happen, its The Rangers.. it's Never that simple sadly. it's AV. Along w Gorton and his ugly RBF(restin ***** face') who I bet won't wait much longer to fire AV/the coaching staff or trade for a top C. OR Both ha!. But there is one thing I know for sure.. we are Not, Repeat NOT going to blow the New York Rangers team up with Henrik Lundqvist in net, even at 35... at least not this year, or even next year most likely. I'll still take the amazing amount of talent/possibilities this team has over any in the League, (even You Vegas!) and Yes.. That's the True Rangers Fan in me talking, again! Thanks for the read if you somehow got through this BS... /me exhales ahhhh.. Nam-afuckin'-ste.. #GoRangers
