Tampa is already the favorite to win the Cup this year, and this trade only pushes them farther in that direction. Since they have an exceptional crop of young talent, they could afford to part with a pick and prospect to really solidify their team as the best in the league. The pick will most likely be the 31st overall anyways, so I think Yzerman would part with it if it means a better Cup shot. It gives them a top pairing, two way defenseman to play with either Hedman or Sergachev, and an excellent depth forward. I don't see how any team can beat them with this roster. Here's the deal.
Tampa gets--Ovi Backstrom- And a lot of retanined salary
Caps get-Tyler Johnson
I posted this when the Caps were struggling mightily and Carlson was one of the only bright spots for us. And the Caps would obviously never ever ever take that deal you suggested lmao
