Tampa is already the favorite to win the Cup this year, and this trade only pushes them farther in that direction. Since they have an exceptional crop of young talent, they could afford to part with a pick and prospect to really solidify their team as the best in the league. The pick will most likely be the 31st overall anyways, so I think Yzerman would part with it if it means a better Cup shot. It gives them a top pairing, two way defenseman to play with either Hedman or Sergachev, and an excellent depth forward. I don't see how any team can beat them with this roster. Here's the deal.

Tampa Bay Lightning
John Carlson
Alex Chiasson

Washington Capitals
2018 1st round pick
Anthony Cirelli

Bolts fans, would you do it?

We would be over the Cap. Also, I think management is high on Cirelli and Yzerman likes having at least 1 1st rounder.
Hedman77 liked this.

Also I doubt Tampa gets involved in any trades this season unless it involves a roster defenseman going out. Sustr/Koekkoek for a starting point.

I posted this when the Caps were struggling mightily and Carlson was one of the only bright spots for us. And the Caps would obviously never ever ever take that deal you suggested lmao

The problem is, Carlson was a big part of why Washington beat Tampa smile
