Adam: I'm a Leafs fan, and a fan of Brodin! But I don't see this as a great fit for Leafs, (Dumba might be), and having said that, trying to be realistic, I don't see the above package (in either case) making it work! Just an opinion!

That trade is bad from the Wild PoV.

JVR just doesn't do much for the Wild. He's a quality player, but LW is the deepest position on the Wild. A late 3rd and a LD prospect similar to what the Wild already have, don't add much. The Wild aren't motivated to move Brodin. It just creates a big hole in the d-corps.

To the above post. Dumba isn't what the Leafs need. He still needs a babysitter on a nightly basis. Brodin or Spurgeon are the d-men the Leafs should want from the Wild. Both play quality defense, and have good transition games.

After having given up Scandella over the summer, and with the way Dumba has currently been playing, the Wild cannot afford to let go of Brodin, at least for the moment.

I think Brodin would fit well with the leafs as he is more of a defensive defenseman, I would assume the Wild could use JVR assuming he signs in Minnesota beyond this year. Just throwing him out there as a type of guy the Leafs should acquire.

Not really a spot for JVR in Minny. Coyle, Granny, Nino, Parise (if he ever is healthy), and Zucker (RFA) all have contracts the run through the 19-20 season, and all of them are top-6 wings. JVR isn't a huge upgrade, so not really worth the price he'd cost to get. Wild really don't have the cap to resign him, ~$6mx6 contract is probably what JVR will end up getting.
