Exaxtly what he needs. He don't have to be the 1st line centre with RJ in Nashville, so he can thrive on the 2nd line.

Nashville is going to regret the Bonino contract. the Ellis, Josi and Ekholm ones are saving their window right now

Was there a reason why Ottawa didn't just give him this deal? Do they think that Duchene is that big of an upgrade?

The Ellis situation will be interesting to monitor. I wonder how much he could get on the open market.

Good value at 6 milllion a year but term is to long. Should have been only 4 years.

Great player but 6 million dollars per season? Maybe more like ... realistically, 85K-ish, but in the NHL, i was expecting somewhere from 4.5M to 5M.

First you called a "great player" then you say he isn't worth 6m. Certainly not a great player, but certainly nice to have. Being. a quality UFA adds about 1.5m a year to contact. Just like being a RHD adds 1.5m despite any defensive limitations the player has.

I'd say 6 million for a guy that can put up 50-60 points is fair value.

Turris supposedly wanted a 7 or 8 year deal worth 6.5 - 7.0 million, somewhere in the Bobby Ryan and Dion Phaneuf area. Duchene has a higher upside to Turris, and a bit more explosiveness to his game that Turris didn't have and that outside of Karlsson, Ottawa didn't have.

I dont know if he is really worth that much money, but it gets their center core locked up for a long time, and that center core got so much better with Ryan, Turris, Bonino, and Sissons.. that is probably the best center core in the league.

I don't think he will do as well playing in the West or next few years personally... I voted no, think he is a bit too over paid for 6 years after seeing how Brown struggled for last few years... Way they over pay players though 6M isn't that awful... Maybe if he was like 5M I would have voted differently but time will tell how this pans out for them not me wink. Nashville to me has problem in net, inconsistent and injury prone smile.
