Seems like way too much too give up for Kane. Toews, 10m is too prohibitive for Jets (maybe any team). Toews NMC can't be ignored.

NO way any of those trades happen, but the fact that theres rumors of either a Murphy - Kane trade or a Murphy + Prospects - Neal trade, i dont think Murphy will be staying long

No way can the Jets afford Toews at $10 million they've far to many other RFAs to lock up that will cost a fortune Trouba wants to play in the east closer to home near Detroit Dreger was saying nor do i see Touba wanting to play in Chicago that team is going to be trending down here shortly.

So if Trouba is traded to Chicago is he going to retire? He's under control of his current NHL team for this year and two more years.

What they can't afford is to keep Toews and Copp and others. Toews at least has huge value in leading the younger forwards.

Troubja needs to get resigned after this season or traded. He will cost $6.5M or more.

Your comment is meaningless Where do come up with this stuff? Of course he will be resigned (by some team) Trouba is a RFA with arbitration rights. He and Winnipeg 1. agree to deal. 2. agree to go arbitration and a deal is imposed. 3. Before agreeing to arbitration Trouba is signed by an offer sheet by another team. Winnipeg matches the offer or get compensation picks. 4. Winnipeg trades Trouba. 5. Trouba retires from the NHL. The same rules apply in the summer of 2019. Either way Winnipeg or whoever holds his rights have "control" over him this season and till summer of 2020.

Thanks captain obvious. smile The Jets don't have the cap room to sign Troubja UNLESS they make him a priority ahead of other big contracts that need to be negotiated this offseason and next. Couple that with Troubja has been vocal about not playing in Winnipeg and how he wants out to play closer to home (Detroit), it would be safe to assume the Jets are smart enough to trade him now at his highest value for the best return especially since he isn't having the best season. I don't know what else you are trying to refer to here, but Troubja will AT LEAST cost the Jets $6.5M next summer and likely closer to $7.5M or $8M. So for $2M more they gain a team captain in Toews and 3 time cup winner to lead the young guys; what do you think makes sense?

ChHawk. You're funny, you say the Jets can't afford the cap of 6.5m on Trouba, but say they can afford 10.5m for Toews. So what is it? The Jets have no cap issues year, especially when Enstrom and his 5m contract goes.
Do you really think Trouba is worth 7.5m or 8m a year? Even at 7.5m, I believe that would put him as the 5th highest paidDman in the league. You really think he would be awarded that in arbitration.?
Yeah I stated the obvious, because you try to make fiction into facts.

Palhal, yes I believe Troubja can get $7.5M in the open market because he isn't in his prime yet. $7.5M would make him tied for the 7th highest paid D guy with Ekblad.

And the reason to bring in Toews is to bring in championship experience and a hometown guy for the young guys. Jets have a lot of young talent but a proven multi cup winner playing in his hometown would be huge for the team, not to mention a good upgrade over Bryan Little as the 2C. Move Bryan Little and bring in Toews. Yes it's a $4.7M cap increase but a big upgrade and give the Jets more options on who to resign and for how much over the next two years. Younger players will play for less when they know they have a good chance at a cup and to play alongside of the one of the best centers in the game the last 10 years.

Let's look at what the Jets are facing in cap space.

Next Year:
Morrissey now off of a rookie contract and Troubja; those two alone will be over easily over $10.5M. Then you have Kulikov and Buf as a $12M cap hit. Just in 4 D players and the Jets will be facing a $23M to $25M cap hit. Now there is Dano off of entry level contract, Matthias, Lowry, Armia (the whole 4th line)...only offset by not resigning Enstrom, but the forwards cap hits are going to hurt next year.

The Following Year:
Wheeler, Laine, Copp, Connor, Mason,....only offset by likely not resigning Myers and freeing up $5.5M as the Jets can't be unbalanced and dump anymore big money into another D guy given the year before.

The Jets over the next 2 seasons are facing serious Cap issues. They are going to have to move some pieces and fill the holes which is doable.

If you really think Trouba is going to get that much 7,5m arbitration so be it. But a one year arbitration contract is based upon the previous season not "potential". And even Toews and all his intangibles, and this stage of his career is worth being paid in the top 5 NHLers at age 30? And Toews has his NMC, I really don't know even if hometown Winnipeg is that attractive to waive. He seem to have made a life in Chicago.
Even Kane, is Buffalo really that attractive to him.? I know it's hometown, but again, people grown and he has lived away from so much since he was 17. When I heard about Stamkos wanting to sign in his hometown (or close to hometown Toronto) I said why? Stamkos has lived away from home since he was 15. His parents have home in Tampa (if only for the winter). This hometown attraction for many players is so overblown. Hockey players like other young adults, can easily start their new life away from their hometown.

Toews has said on multiple occasions as much as he loves Chicago, he would like to at one point in his career play back home. Remember, Toews goes back home to Winnipeg still for the offseason. I run with some common friends of Kane and he has settled in Chicago and spends a lot of time in Chicago in the off season unlike Toews. Toews doesn't have the social circle that Kane does in Chicago. He's almost a hermit, not seen or heard from outside of playing hockey in Chicago. Even Hossa, despite being a big family guy, is seen out and about in town.
