Comment below you're thoughts, I think this trade helps the Canadiens youth and their blue line.

Brendan Smith is still a good Top4 Dman, he just doesn't have a spot with the NYR this season because of our depthy d core.

With MTL Smith could take over for Jordie Benn and pair nicely with Victor Mete since Smith's strong DFD nature gives Mete more room to maneuver on the ice

Probably could retain salary on Brendan Smith, or could trade smith elsewhere for picks and include them in deal instead of Smith himself

If I've seen people say that Zuccarello for Pacioretty is even why would the NYR trade Skjei for him? Skjei is arguably the Rangers most valuable asset, even more so than McDonagh

This trade isn't meant for today or tomorrow when the Canadiens are on a winning streak.

This is for when the inevitable happens when a team goes through a losing streak and looks to make change.

Not for nothing I don't think the trade is that dumb. I think a more perfect trade would be trading Smith elsewhere and using the assets we acquire for him in a Pacioretty deal, but overall this is an even swap.

A 30 goal scorer for a hopeful prospect and a Defenceman who can't even make the Rangers lineup. You want Pacthes 1 of Mcdonagh or Skjei is coming back.

if the team goes through a losing streak, they wont trade their top scorer. that doesnt help at all. and we already have a bunch of bottom 4 defensemen. we don't more. we need an offensive PMD, and for that we have 9m in cap space to solve that issue. no 30 goal scorer goes for crap like that

^ agreed we aren't interested in smith if patch leaves its for top 2 D keep your first rounder price (not playing well now but in his prime) weber getting old chucky is entering his orime drouin entering his prime Gallagher prime and all the recent moves are to win now the weber deal wasn't to win in 5 years so that's where we are at

Not saying we're winning the cup this year but this blow it up and rebuild isn't what we need we need to fix our D and have our starting goalie play like a starter again
