Maybe a 2nd and a 3rd, since Buffalo's pick could be a top 5 this year. Simmonds is good but not worth a top 5 pick in a strong draft.

I don’t think this really makes sense for Buffalo and if the pick isn’t good it probably isn’t a good return for Simmonds.

Bad trade for Buffalo. It's a lateral move for wings, and giving up a high 1st rounder for 1 extra year is way too high of a price. Buffalo would do it in a 1 for 1 hockey trade, but adding anything useful isn't worth it for Buffalo.

If Buf does trade Kane they should get a really good return of picks/prospects for his as a rental. They have the cap space to take on a short term cap dump to really boost Kane's value.

Given what we heard about this deep draft, it may not be likely. It may be possible BUF gets it top-5 protected for 2018 draft and non-protected for 2019. BUF shouldn't be too much better next season. It's likely BUF gets a better haul from a contender as a rental, and the Flyers may do the same exact same in 2019 and trade Simmonds then for a bigger haul to a contending team if they can't/won't re-sign him.
