Description
I used the draftprospects site simulator and their rankings (moderate randomness, moderate team needs), to generate various models. Ignore the teams - this is hab picks only - who would you pick vs my comments

1Logo of the Nashville Predators-Rd1 - pick 9 - over 80% of the time, it came down to picking the mercurial Quinn from a loaded up OHL 67's team vs. the IMO overrated Sanderson who hasn't played much against top players in their USHL / NCAA schedule. Occasionally if the random generator was set high, I would take Perfetti, Holtz or Raymond over Quinn
2Logo of the Los Angeles Kings-Rd 2 pick 39 - Using this pick for a LHD - the models came down to Ryan O'Rourke, William Wallinder, Jereme Poirier, Joni Jurmo, O'Rourke is a steady eddie and a leader who we have enough of. Poirier was a little one dimensional offense so I leaned to the offensive upside of Joni Jurmo or the slick skating Wallinder (Cormier in their rankings was always picked earlier)

I gravitated to Niemela first , then Helge Grans. Villenuve despite imprressive stats is rated very low by NHL central scouting

They don't need to draft LD. They are at the point in their system where they should only be drafting best available and not by position. Position at needs imo are wingers and RHD. Juulsen, Fleury and Brook are good but not two pairing options on RD. Wingers you only really have Caufield and Ylonen and NHL potential wingers in the system

We don’t need LHD whatsoever. And I wouldn’t touch Niemela anywhere near the 2nd round. He’s a 3rd pairing D at best. Ideally we get a forward and a RHD at 39 & 40, but I don’t know if Grans/Barron will be available.

At pick 9 we should get one of Perfetti, Holtz, Quinn maybe even Raymond. When I looked within that sites rankings BAP at winger without reaching, there wasn’t too much impressive At forward hence I went D. Torgersson, Heineman Neighbours Colangelo are reasonable picks within 39,40. Sure I would love Foerster or Perrault to fall here but I don’t think so. Norlinder, Harris, Struble are potential LHD to compliment the unproven Romanov for a 1,2 but I really like Wallinder and Jurmo’s upside. Barron, Poirier, Barron even Cormier give me the Nathan Beaulieu creepies. Interesting that Grans and Niemela are rated high by nhl central scouting and a few other drafts

If the BPA is a LHD then I’m fine with going for them at 39th. I was just saying that we shouldn’t pick someone just because they’re a LHD. As for Niemela, I have seen where some people rank him, but watching the “tape” myself, he doesn’t look like a guy I’d pick in the top 2 rounds. I just don’t see the upside.
