<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aadoyle</b></div><div>As said before if we went by your guidelines Flyers would not be TDL winners. They got a (probs late) 1st for walker at the cost of a 4m capdump whose got another year left. Thats not really selling high as they sacrificed to get a low 1st which is basically equivalent to a high 2nd anyways. Bought a 3.25m #7 Dman when they had so many many Dman already. And traded borderline for borderline player. That dont scream win

That like TOR, NYR and others screams middle of the ground. There's no need to always have roster turnover at the TDL nor go after the big flashy toy to win it all. Blues and VGK won cups with a single trade at the TDL (Barbashev and Zotto). Meanwhile last year BOS went all in and lost in 7 despite adding Orlov, Hathaway and Bertuzzi

I the end as mentioned earlier everyone entitled to an opinion even if when using the guidelines be incorrect</div></div>

I guess i'm just kinda confused on what you think my guidlines are? I'd expect a team with stars to go out and help their stars before there stars are 35 and cupless. Probably because I watched Hextall waste the primes of Giroux and Voracek's careers.

I'd expect a team without stars, and has overperformed all year (Flyers), too trade guys who aren't gonna be important in 3 years, having a career year, and are valued higher than they've ever been before.

1. Walkers aggregate value was likely around a mid 2nd in this deal. Before the year he was a throw in a trade likely neutral valued by the GM's. They took back Johanson for purpose of making Colorado willing to part with a first. (which is smart) 2nd&gt;nothing

2. They then bought cheap players Gurianov and EJ, because the team is overperforming and deserves some sort of help for a playoff push especially with injuries on backend to Seeler/Drysdale/Risto. It wouldn't make sense if they splurged big assets on a Guentzel or a Hertl, they aren't ready for that. They don't have the star talent Carolina, Vegas, Leafs, Or Rags have.

Not to say who they acquired is great, however they spent a 4th + a guy who couldn't make the team out of camp for players that provide more value to them then what they sent out.

3. With the 1st acquired, and not committing a lot of cap space to player long term, they're now in a lot better position to add a young core player via the draft or trade -- someone who could make an impact during the Michkov era.

Trade Deadline Winners And Losers:

Winners:
Vegas - Traded for everyone lol,
Carolina - Got best player available without giving up premium assets, got a reclamtion project in Kuzy who might revive his career
Colorado - Solified their top 6 with Mitts, and added a solid defenseman in Walker, who plays their style and is probably a better fit than Byram for their playoff run for this year.
Philly - Stuck to the rebuild plan sold high on Walker and added another first. Gurianov was a sneaky add, fast and huge, could be a nice little project for Torts. EJ is a Vet, Flyers needed bodies on D with Seeler, Drysdale, Ristolainen injured. York being banged up and Walker traded. EJ is a body with a lot of experience should be a good fit for the room.
San Jose - They stuck to their rebuild, When Grier got there that team needed a tear down with the lack of prospects/picks, current depth, and age of the stars. And Grier has done that. This was the most amount of value he was gonna ever get for Hertl who wouldn't have played in a meaningful game with San Jose again anyway. He got 2 firsts, They have a good chance at Celebrini, a ton of cap space now. Also got good value on Duclair.

Losers:
Leafs - Didn't aim high enough, waste of a deadline. Another year wasted of Matthews and Marners career
Vancouver - Didn't do anything, Lindholm ehh. Lost out on Guentzel
Rags - Acuired mid players paid high prices
Calgary - Lost every trade 60-40
Dallas - Didn't do enough, still have Hakapaa and Suter on their top 6 d
Boston - Overpaid for Peeke who doesn't even play full time for CBJ, Ullmark deal fell through.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>goodfella</b></div><div>They gave up two 3rds though and are retaining for 6 years. They said to themselves "Lets just move up 60 picks once and throw away a pick in the 3rd, but also retain for 6 years. We'd like to pay to see this guy play against us. Preferably a division rival."

We need cap to hit the floor now.
So what are we going to do? Go overpay people. Add more overpaid contracts which is the "problem" with Hertl's apparently. Except it wasn't.

Also, the Sharks have enough 3rd and 4th guys. We don't have a top center. Which is what we just lost.

It's a joke. The EK trade is a joke. The Meier one was. The Burns one was. He loses. He loses trades. Grier sucks.</div></div>

understand the frustration, but trust the process. This was a neccesary move.

San Jose had no future with those guys on the roster. Wilson left them ****ed for a while, gave out too much money and dashed and forgot to supplement the top talent with depth.

The key to winning in the NHL is having everything going at once, stars, middle lineup, goalies. Edstrom should be a peice for the middle. And your now in a better position to get stars.

It may take a while, but San Jose had the most unattractive opening in the league when Grier was hired. It should take a while

San Jose could be getting the 12th Overall pick from EK trade who could be a good player if chosen and developed right. Probably a top 3 pick with your own pick. I hope you guys get Celebrini. That's a great start.
