Questionable but interesting
I’m open to trading Labanc but we have no need for a defenseman back. I would only trade him for a 3C or draft picks so we can use his cap space to go get a 3C elsewhere.

Trading for hertl is San Jose goes full rebuild
1. I wish we were but Doug Wilson has already said that San Jose is not going into a full rebuild.
2. If we were shopping Hertl retained we would get much better offers than this.

Barabanov is exempt from the expansion draft. Substitute Balcers. I think Seattle would take Balcers or Donato over Gambrell.

Meier for Reinhart. The Sharks need young high end center talent. Devils fans offer a late 1st and 2 players they don’t mind giving up who don’t fit what the Sharks need. Pretty much all the Timo to NJ deals are proposed by devils fans. Sharks fans know there probably isn’t a deal to be made with NJ.

I might be interested for 3rd and a prospect I don’t care about but not more. I’d be more interested if he only had one year left. We need to pay Hertl and Ferraro next summer.

Revisiting the Hertl and Simek Deal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>justaBoss</b></div><div>It's natural for a fan to think like this. Me as a Dallas fan am absolutely certain that Klingberg will re-sign, but honestly it's far from certain due to various things like money and finding a suitable environment for him and his family.
Most of NYR fans here were actually pretty sure that Kreider was going to be dealt since it wasn't long ago they openly said they were going to rebuild.
Now I don't think SJ has claimed anything like this, but if Hertl wants to fight for the cups in near future and at his prime, he'd be much better off just going somewhere else, because contract wise Sharks' situation is probably the worst in league. They have so many aging players inked to contracts lasting half of the decade, and they're close to unable to strengthen their team further.
It all comes to what Hertl views more important - his current team and how they'd feel if he left, or probability of success as an individual and a professional. All players in general play hockey to win - but only some of them can. And it's mostly dependent on whether you're at the right place at the right time or not. Currently in terms of success, SJ is not that place. Which is a shame because I used to like that team a lot at the beginning of 2010s.</div></div>
Yes lots of Rangers fans thought Kreider would/should be traded but none of them thought he would leave UFA if he was offered a long term deal. Lots of Sharks fans are speculating about Hertl being traded but none are saying he won’t sign. Some players just really fit with the team and city and Hertl does that here. If we were talking about Meier, I would be far less certain.
This speculation on trading Hertl is pretty pointless anyway after Wilson’s exit interview. Like it or not, he is adding to the team this off season instead of starting a rebuild.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mhroblak</b></div><div>Pardon? This is news to me.
Edit - my formatting isn't working. Tried to bold this statement</div></div>
How close do you follow the Sharks? Almost all of our home grown players want to stay and Hertl is one of the last guys I’d expect to want to go UFA. It’s like when Kreider was approaching UFA. Rangers fans knew he would sign a long term deal if it was offered. I doubt you will find many Sharks fans that think Hertl wouldn’t be happy to sign a long term deal with San Jose.

Revisiting the Hertl and Simek Deal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mhroblak</b></div><div>If Hertl was under contract with San Jose for long term then I’d definitely agree a guy like Lundkvist is necessary. But he’s a year away from free agency. And most Sharks fans I’ve spoken to were content with Chytil + 1st for Hertl alone</div></div>
You may look at it as trading for 1 year of Hertl but that’s not how the Sharks see it. It’s all but certain that Hertl is ready sign a long term deal with the Sharks. Plus, I think he’s nuts but Doug Wilson recently said that he plans to add a 3C and goaltending to the team and try to compete next year. Trading Hertl doesn’t make any sense if that’s the direction he’s headed.

If they really want to keep Gambrell then they will just protect him instead of Donato. Protect Couture, Kane, Hertl, Meier, Labanc, Balcers, Gambrell.

Would this be enough to keep Hertl in San Jose after next season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jfrojelin</b></div><div>The majority of the Bruins roster...
And they don't even have the injury history. After stuff in recent history with Karlsson Nyquist etc, you don't think teams will be a little more hesitant, ESPECIALLY with the flat cap</div></div>
Krejci 6 year deal until age 35
Bergeron 8 til 36
Marchand 8 til 36
Coyle 6 til 34
Who are you talking about on the Bruins?
Last summer the flat cap did squeeze some UFAs, but those who got squeezed signed 1 year deals hoping to cash in later. Signing a 4 year deal for the last of your prime years is foolish. If that’s all Wilson offers, he’s going to go UFA.

Wilson probablt won't give more than 4-5 years and I would guess 4. We see Hertl as the transition from the Cooch and Burns core to the Meier, Ferraro, Merks etc core, and that's the time frame of the transition</div></div>
Think about it from Hertl’s point of view. This is his one and only chance to get a big payday. There is no chance he signs a 4 year deal. If Wilson doesn’t offer him a 8 year deal he will go UFA. Wilson’s choice is trade him or sign him to a long term deal.

I really, really, really don’t like Karlsson and even I wouldn’t take that deal. Retaining that much for 6 years would be stupid.
Note: The Sharks have the wealthiest owner in hockey. Saving real dollars vs cap hit does nothing for us.
