Immediate Defensive Threat
You could put a numerical "Value" on each draft pick all day, but there is an intangible value to a high pick, which is "the player we take could turn out to be a franchise player" and you will find that makes pick in the top 5 incredibly hard to acquire
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawkisles</b></div><div>Even if the Yotes say no, make a similar offer to Vancouver for the 6th overall. Bouchard's big body and booming shot is arguably a better fit with NYI.</div></div>
The Red Wings have 6th, Vancouver has 7th.

Yeah that trade with the Avs is bad, i would expect Chiarelli to get fleeced like that, but not Sakic.

Next Year - Improving Offense and D
Why is Franzen bought out? he can be LTIR for full cap relief, and i dont think we buy out abby, i think Ericsson gets bought out before abby.
I like the John Carlson signing, but only if there is a buyout (ericsson) or trade (dekeyser, or oulette) on defense. We need ATLEAST one of the kids to come up, and if John Carlson is going to take a spot, then someone else has to go.

Yeah i forgot Frk, but even though Wahlstrom is commited to Harvard, he hasnt officially joined them. Ive heard he's even considering changing the school he's commiting to. So thats anything but a sure thing. Farabee would be great to pair with Wahlstrom, but we really need to take a defenseman in this first round of this draft, whether its with our first pick, or second pick (wherever that might end up being) we've gotta get a D
Edit: i believe it was Craig Button who said he commited to Harvard a while ago, and is exploring other schools.

After Lottery
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caboose119z</b></div><div>I'd be shocked to see the Wings pass on Bouchard. From the sounds of the beat writers he might be the highest player on their list that will be reasonably available.
Personally my late picks would be Noel, Bokk, and Miller but I'm not sure they'll all be available at that point. Why'd you go with Samuelsson and McBain?</div></div>
Im with you, i dont think they would pass on Bouchard, and personally i hope they wouldnt. I just feel like this is probably the BEST path to go down. Even though we need defense BAD, its so hard to pass on Wahlstrom.
I went with Samuelsson because i thought he was pretty solid at U18's and he seems to be the wings type of guy. ESPECIALLY if they end up going with Hughes, they will need a big guy to compliment him, but i think they still take him if they go with Wahlstrom, if they go with Bouchard, im not sure they would also want Samuelsson. I went with McBain because through my many readings it seems Wings scouts are really high on him, he has decent upside as a center, probably would play well as a 3c/4c behind Larkin, Rasmussen, and possibly Wahlstrom if they convert him.
Honestly im hoping for some sort of Trade up with the Vegas pick, something like DeKeyser (retain some salary) + Vegas pick to Colorado (who has been looking for a bigger defenseman) to move up into the mid range, maybe take Bode Wilde or Serron Noel.

He is a consensus top 10 across almost all draft rankings.

Kyle connor should be higher, but if he did drop that far, i dont think the Wings pass on the local kid, he would be taken one spot sooner.

Jack McBain's comment should read:
We are strong at wing, after defense which was addressed in round 1, a legit 2/3 C is our next need, and McBain fits that mold.

2018/2019 season with rumored $80 million salay cap
Sup buddy, i know you from WIIM
One change i would make is i would hope Bouchard is not playing with Error-sson if we do draft him, i would hope ideally he plays with Hronek, two younger guys that can be a top pair together for the forseeable future, i would also hope that Ericsson continues to play with Daley, that seems to have helped Ericsson not be as bad.
Also in getting the overwhelming feeling Mike Green will be back next season, so keep that in mind!
Other than those points, looks good!

Never. Rasmussen should be considered ALMOST untouchable at this point. This teams needs everything, offense, d and goaltending, desperately. So a big goal scoring centerman should be considered untouchable, unless the deal is heavily lopsided in the wings favor.

Mrazek wouldnt have been qualified by the red wings anyways. So he took what he could get so that Mrazek doesnt walk for nothing. And on top of that the 4th will probably be a 3rd, possibly even a 2nd. It was a good fair trade for both sides.

Getting there, but i think JT's rights to negotiation are worth more than a 5th next year. It probably would look like a conditional 2019 2nd round, which becomes a 4th if he chooses not to sign.

Yeah, not sure on the trades. Tampa & Toronto trades are fine, not sure about the Carolina trade, thats a maybe.
I think the Nashville trade is a no, i think a closer deal on that one would be Tatar for Fabbro straight up, or take Fabbro out of the deal.
The Ottawa deal is a hell no. You might get away with dealing all of that for Duchene, <strong><em>MAYBE</em></strong> Karlsson, but not both.
And i wouldnt trade anything for JT, because if he wants to be in Detroit then he will consider signing with us in the offseason.
If you trade a 1st and 3rd and he doesnt resign and we're not making the playoffs then what was the point?
Also you have to take into account that if Zetterberg retires before his contract is up, we're still responsible for his cap hit for the rest of his contract term, so there will be no cap relief for him retiring.

Personally, if i were GM, Bracco + 1st + 2nd + ill take Matt Martin's contract off your hands. Done deal.

Okay, so its only for this season, not a trade & sign for next season, my mistake. But still, the trade is ridiculous.
I image a TOR trade for JT would look something like Marner + A level Prospect + 1st this year + conditional 1st next year (2nd if he doesnt resign).

I dont care for the SJ trade, the rest is reasonable, however, i was criticized myself for selling Green to TB for only a 1st, so i feel that it is a bit light based on others reactions.
All in all though, i dont mind the rest of these deals especially the Helm for Strome deal, i dont think its plausible, but it is an interesting deal.
