Addition by subtraction
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Sorry, there is no logic that Holl has to go to make way for Lehtonen, Sandin or Liljegren. There are no guarantees that either or certainly all of those players can stand up to a full NHL season. Certainly a teams needs seven or eight capable NHLers just to make it through the season. Leafs who are razor thin with NHL Dmen depth just can't be giving cost efficient NHLers away. The fact that you have Rosen has a 7th Dman...when he really the 9th best Leaf Dman shows the weakness of your team,</div></div>
Sandin is 100% ready for full time duty next season and the expectation is that Lehtonen will slot into the top 4. If the Leafs really want to improve the 7th dman slot there's definitely cheap options available, I just went with someone in our system. Odds are Johnson is going to be moved too which will clear up more space to sign improve as well. Also, as I said in the description, I think if an improvement is needed, best to give this lineup some time and see what we need later

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Absolutely crazy to get rid of the cost efficient and good Holl . Leafs have wingers, trade Johnsson for whatever the no cap return, and use that cap space to fill the roster. Gauthier and Marincin are much better NHLers than Petan and Rosen.</div></div>
The way I see it, one of Holl or Dermott is gonna have to go to make room for Lehtonen, Sandin, and potentially Liljegren. I guess Holl being RHD might also give him more leverage. He's definitely not the problem and on a good contract. I mainly was just doing this to see the position the Leafs would be in without any FA signings or significant trades.

Another Incremental Step
You could probably get a bit more for Larsson than just Johnsson. Probably a more proven top 6 forward or a piece included with him (if it's the Leafs maybe Petan/Malgin/Bracco).

I meant to include the pick from Calgary too. 3 first round picks and 3 roster players for doughty seems fair enough

I don't think he'll leave tbh. If he did, he'll probably let them ahead of time to maximize trade value and get him to a proven winner. I'm not sure if he'll get the captaincy elsewhere but I think a team like Columbus fits his style well, if they can ever manage to win a playoff game!

I don't think the Islanders will ever find success as a defense-first type of team. Best to unload those guys and focus on goals

Gearing up for 2022 cup run
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>How are you going to re-sign Pettersson, Hughes and Demko for the 2021-22 season? You have about $13M coming off the books in Sutter, Edler, Benn and Spooner. That's not enough.
You're gearing up for a Cup run in 2022 but the roster will have to look very different from this to fit the key players under the cap.</div></div>
There's over $23M in cap space in 2022, I think Eriksson could be bought out or a trade with Seattle could be made to alleviate cap space. Also if Marky gets signed long term, no way Demko stays. I mentioned in the post I see Minny and Detroit as the best possible landing spots for him, but there's a few teams who would take him because he wouldn't demand too much on a contract (ex. Toronto after Andersen expires). Pettersson will get about 8-10 and Hughes probably gets 6-7 depending on term, I think there's more than enough room, especially with Podkolzin coming in on his ELC.
The point of this AGM was more to field a more than competitive roster while giving some of the younger guys the extra year to get ready and line up the contracts for max cap value. Edler also takes a big discount upon re-signing, Benn doesn't come back, and one of Beagle or Roussel could easily be shipped away.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mike</b></div><div>Wings decline we wanna see & evaluate timashov b4 we make any decision on him first..sorry</div></div>
Honestly I figured the Wings might give Baertschi one last look since he's got one year left and might be able to dump him for a third or something. Timashov was really just kind of a "placeholder" type of player, when really it could've been any depth forward. I would also guess the Canucks would throw in a late round pick (round 5-7) to balance it out.

I didn't realize that until I posted, unfortunately. However, I think the deal as is without the condition should be enough to get Nutivara as I could see Columbus signing Stetcher anyways. If not, replace him with a B forward prospect

Nothing eases the pain
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dzmets</b></div><div>So you think they will look to resign Barrie then?</div></div>
Barrie played really well under Keefe but we probably don't have the cap space to do it. Miller comes in under 4 mill and still puts us at just under ceiling with no room for a healthy scratch. If we bring him back, it'd have to be something like $4.5 or less and we'd have to make even more moves to fix the cap. I think too if the Leafs go for Miller they could get the Sabres to retain up to $1 mill if we pay a decent price but since we're both in the Atlantic they may not want to do that.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Skyraider112</b></div><div>Would you do Miller for Mikheyev?</div></div>
I think Mkheyev is a really solid piece for us and if can get him back for 2 mill or less, he's a perfect fit for the top 6. He's the type of guy who could even replace Hymen if Hyman walks in FA next season. So I think he has decent trade value, but is probably worth more to us than other teams

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>zyyyp</b></div><div>a 6th / 7th defenceman, a capable 40 point middle 6 winger, and a good AHLer who will likely never be an NHL regular for a mid 1st rounder in a stacked draft... even if the value was there (it's not), what makes you think a rebuilding team like NJ would be interested in giving up such a valuable pick?</div></div>
Johnsson could very easily be a 25-25-50 guy if he got a top 6 role. He's completely buried here and barely gets PP time either. Dermott is not a 6th/7th d-man and is still young. Bracco is a high ceiling low floor type of guy. NJ already has a top 5 pick and another in the early teens and is desperate for some talent. I guarantee they'll trade this pick and probably get not much back or take a risk like JT Miller and Vancouver... which was seen as a bad trade for Vancouver at the time

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>zyyyp</b></div><div>that NJ offer has got to be a joke</div></div>
A young d-man who can give 18 minutes a night, mid-6 winger with 50 point upside, and a solid playmaker with a high ceiling isn't worth a 15-18 overall pick? Johnsson is on a great contract, Dermott is RFA and will get a bridge, Bracco will be under a million and is only 22. I think it's more than enough considering what mid to late first rounders have gotten in recent years
