^^^This^^^ Who's going to take Campbell's contract without multiple 1sts and top end prospects dealt alongside him? No one. So he's a buyout candidate in the summer but that doesn't really help the Oilers in that now even with Campbel demoted they're going to need a goalie making ~$1M who can be their starter. Good luck with that.

So you'd have Perron on the 4th line? I mean, he's old and slow but he's not bad.

Wish Holl the best, seems like a good teammate.......but to me that's waste of cap.</div></div>
Detroit was pretty thin on the right side after trading Hronek so Holl seemed like an ok short-term fix and there weren't a lot of options in FA. I would have preferred a 2-year deal rather than 3.

I don't disagree. :) My point was, do you sign Holl if you knew Petry was coming your way? My answer to that is no.

Thread:
Do you trust the Yzerplan anymore
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PuzzledActuary</b></div><div>This is the classic misinformed weak take on the current state of the Wings and their roster. It's really quite simple and what Yzerman is doing is not difficult to understand.
The current core is Larkin, Raymond, Seider, Cat and Ras, with Walman possibly sprinkled in there. Waiting in the wings (pun intended) is a very young core of Edvinsson, Wallinder, Kasper, Danielson, Berg, Soder, Pelikka, Johansson, Mazur and whoever we draft in the next 2-3 years. That's 13 players that are slated and expected to be in Wings jerseys in the coming 2-4 years.
Those contracts that Steve signed will have expired or be immaterial when the kids are ready to join the rest of the core.
Chiarot is expiring, Holl is NOT a pylon and will be expiring. Copp and Compher are quality NHLers and will also be expiring or be on very friendly deals compared to % of cap, which will continue to go up. Petry is making pennies and still a quality player. Ghost was a great signing. What's the issue?
Nobody is expecting this team to make the playoffs or be truly contending at the moment, but they will sure as hell be the most competitive team we have seen in about 12 years.
Yzerman was left with absolutely nothing when he came in. This doesn't happen overnight.</div></div>
This is a prime take on the situation. Yzerman has been in place for 4 years. He not only had to finish expunging the horrible contracts KH doled out but also had to rebuild the entirety of the Wings prospect pipeline and try and keep the team from becoming a competitive black hole for years to come. I mean, that's his history with the Wings; 50 years of ineptitude before he was drafted.
So yeah we can nitpik on the margins for a few of these contracts (why Holl? because the Petry trade hadn't happened) and yes Chiarot (though coaches seem to love the dude). But last year's team showed how little depth they had when injuries happened. That's not the case this season.

Big fan of the Ras-Compher-Perron line. They've been smoking hot in the preseason. And all Sprong does is score a goal a night playing 12 minutes.
Velano;s #1 C tonight with Danielson #2 against Toronto's big 4. See how they handle that type of pressure.

Yes it's very unlikely that they'll move Pinto. It seems that Kubalik is the odd man out or there could be something else coming. People expected Thomson to end up on waivers, but not both JBD and Sokolov, it seems that they are targeting a 20 men roster lol</div></div>
Yeah, no kidding. If they waive Kubalik he'll have traded a top 10 1st round pick, a 2nd round pick, and a 3rd round pick for a very conditional 1st round pick, a 4th round pick, and 1 year of Cat. :D

I'm not sure they do; if they did they would have prioritized getting his deal done before a bunch of the others.

Yzerman is still purging all of KH's draft picks so Velano and Berggren are up for grabs.
I'd do Berggren for Pinto straight up but would prefer Velano and a 2nd for Pinto.

Trade Deadline if Team is Bad

I don't think the issue with the Wings was the substance abuse; Vrana wouldn't have been the 1st player Yzerman brought into the fold after entering and exiting the program. I think it was him electing for shoulder surgery during training camp in 21-22 season and then entering player assistance a couple of games into 22-23 and finally stinking up the place in GR. That doesn't seem to be the mindset Stevie appreciates, thus why he basically paid St. Louis to take him.

Bure is one of the premier examples when you think of careers destroyed by injury. Even if he wasn't, there's no comparison between Vrana and Bure. Vrana has played 101 games over the last three seasons. That is not a healthy player. You cannot argue against that at this point. 220 eligible games over that time frame and he's played less than half of them. Whether that's injuries, off-ice issues with addiction, or anything else, that hurts his value. No one is going to pay this kind of price for him.</div></div>
Of course the 2020-21 season was only 56 games long of which he played 50 of them.

Vrana got booted out of Washington and then booted out of Detroit. Odds are he'll wear his welcome out in St. Louis after a few weeks this season too.

No, they're not good. And I'm a Coyotes fan.
They have a very good top line and while I quibble with your alignment of the other 3 lines it's almost irrelevant. The D is a train wreck (I mean come on, Troy Stecher is your #2 RD??) and I doubt Vejmelka can over-perform as #1 G again.
I would be happy to be wrong, but unless they play super structured defense *or* outscore their opponents 6-5, they're not going to be particularly relevant.
