A Team that could actually do it
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GiggywithGibby</b></div><div>3OA + McTavish + Mintyukov boy you must be smoking something good to think that's a real possibility.
The only reason Vancouver sells pettersson is because they can't afford his next contract, and if that's the case, you're going to get shafted on value. You wouldn't even get the proposed deal.</div></div>
Clearly you don’t watch hockey at all… Pettersson is a top 5C in the league who produces at a 100 point level offensively and has borderline selke level two way ability. Take the Tkachuk trade as a comparible then increase the value because Petey plays C. So to suggest Van wouldn’t even get Zegras and Lacombe with a 1st is absolutely ridiculous. I wouldn’t even be surprised if Van wanted more than Mctavish+ Mintyukov+ this years 1st

I agree Anaheim could do it but it’d have to be Mctavish, and Mintyukov not Lacombe and Zegras.

Hahah what? That’s not even close to getting Petey alone. Every single team in the league would make a far better offer than this.

Still gotta add a guy like Savoie and a 1st for Petey but that would get the conversation started.

True but Smith makes 250k a year more and Vancouver is gonna need every extra dollar they can find to sign Petey, Hronek and make a run at Lindholm this summer

To become a contender again
Rakell costs to dump somewhere and Pittsburgh literally doesn’t have the assets to acquire Miller even if they really wanted to.

Cup favourites tell me Im wrong
Tkachuk would be perfect in Van’s top 6, however I don’t think there’s any reason to believe that Ottawa would look to move him right now. An if they did it would be a huge mistake for them.

Who says no
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>Jack Hughes has been better defensively than Pettersson this year. (Pettersson’s defensive play this year and in general is incredibly overrated, and Jacks is incredibly underrated).
But Pettersson got a narrative around him (people associate killing penalties and winning faceoffs with being good defensively bc defensive play is very difficult to isolate)
And because Jack is small and doesn’t win faceoffs and doesn’t throw #hits, people assume he isn’t good defensively.</div></div>
What? Pettersson has a borderline selke level two way game while producing 100 points, Hughes is average defensively and puts up the same offensive numbers. At worst they’d be a wash in trade value because of Hughes’ contract but there’s a good argument that it would take Hughes + to acquire Petey.

Hughes bros unite
This is bad for Vancouver, Petey and J.Hughes are a wash, Hoglander and Hronek for L.Hughes and taking on Palats contract which would cost a 1st to dump elsewhere are even so the fact Van is retaining on Demko and getting a cap dump in Vanacek makes no sense, take the goalies completely out and it makes sense.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mr_Gardoki</b></div><div>Robin Lehner when he shipped to Vegas to backup Fleury. Was that fast enough for you?</div></div>
Robin Lehner was not a backup when he got traded, yes he became the back up when he got to Vegas but he went on to take Fleurys job. Nedeljkovic has always been a backup and will always be a backup… let’s look at recent actual back up goalies traded, Scott Wedgewood for a 4th, Quick for Hutchinson and a 7th.

Do any of these Rakell moves make sense
The Vancouver trades definitely don’t unless you’re sending draft picks or extra value as well for taking on the extra money or term compared to Mikheyev or Garland.

No one in the league is paying a 2nd for a backup goalie. His value is probably a 5th, you might get a 4th if a few teams are interested.

Guentzel VAN Idea
I feel like you’re just adding pieces to the Van trade that aren’t needed, take Hoglander and one of Klimovich or the 2nd out and take Nieto and the picks out on Pittsburgh’s side and Van would atleast have to consider. I still don’t think they should do it however.
