Next season
I’d like pesce in Van but if he were willing to take a deal like that he’d already be resigned in Carolina.

Slavin gives you 30-40 points and is the best defensive defenseman in the NHL. I’d say that makes Slavin better.
It proves the point that no two people will agree on a ranking list for something like this an shows that it’s all opinion based.

Zegras to VAN - who says no
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Db1899</b></div><div>Boeser is a negative asset with his contract , Lekerimaki looks like a middle 6 winger and that 1st rd pick will not be a top 10 pick.
What is the incentive for the ducks to do this?</div></div>
Sure Boeser is slightly overpaid but he’s still a 50 point guy, lekkerimaki is off to a great start this year with a new team in sweden and is still only 19, I’d argue he looks like a top 6 guy but regardless he’s a very good prospect who was taken in the first half of the 1st round 1 year ago… an a 1st from Vancouver could realistically be anywhere in the draft. If everyone stays healthy it’s probably a mid to later 1st but one bad injury and it could easily be top 10 or even top 5

It’s the same package Van got for horvat plus Hoglander. It’s not like zegras is coming off back to back 90 point seasons and anaheim clearly doesn’t seem to value him as highly as they should considering they’re reportedly offering him 3-4 mil a year

3 years ago he was easily top 10 but, Makar, heiskanen, Hughes, fox, mcavoy, Josi, Hedman, Slavin, toews, dahlin are all better and there’s probably a few more guys as well

He’s good, but not top 10 anymore, an cups don’t matter when talking about individual players.

That’s a better list but still wild that you have Pietrangelo ahead of Hughes and spurgeon in the top 20

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Db1899</b></div><div>It’s not close for Zegras. The odds of of any one of those pieces being close to as good as zegras is extremely low</div></div>
Hence why there’s multiple pieces in the trade. No team is gonna give up a player as good as zegras and a top prospect and 1st for him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xspyrit</b></div><div>There was a gigantic hole on RD, Brannstrom plays LD. They want Chychrun to play that RD role.
It's also Pierre Dorion, when he has a fixation on a player, he will eventually get him. Duchene, Joseph, DeBrincat, Chychrun... and probably more that we don't know about
Oh and Brannstrom's game took a big jump last season, particularly defensively. They didn't know before what he was going to be capable of.
But anyway, 2 guys block him in Ottawa : Jake Sanderson, Thomas Chabot
So you'll understand why he's stuck on the 3rd pairing
And I'll take your bet on Brannstrom not becoming a 2nd pairing D-man. I have been projecting players for 30+ years, I know talent when I see it.</div></div>
Everyone in the NHL has talent… look at how that worked out for guys like yakupov and virtanen. I agree he’s blocked out of the top 4 in Ottawa but I also don’t believe he’s good enough to play there even if he wasn’t. Also there’s only a handful of teams who don’t need a top 4 dman so if he’s as good as you think why hasn’t anyone else offered up a package Ottawa can’t say no to for him?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xspyrit</b></div><div>Yeah, trading for a young forward with Top-9 upside would be the smartest way to trade Brannstrom. Trading him for a 3rd would be disappointing and would end up even worse than watching DeMelo (who was traded for a 3rd) having a good career.
I think the trade deadline could be a possibility too, depending on how Kleven forces management's hand
Brannstrom >>> Rathbone
You're not very well informed if you don't know that
Exactly what I said above. Don't make statements when you're not informed. It's called misinformation when people do that.

Brannstrom VASTLY outplayed his 3rd pairing 16 mins per game role. His metrics indicate than he could do well in a 2nd pairing role too, and by watching the games, he actually did on the 1st/2nd pairing when Chabot has been injured</div></div>
So if he’s so good why did Ottawa have to go out and acquire chychrun for the top 4 if brannstrom was already there and capable of playing in the top 4? Oh yeah that’s right because he’s not. He’s a 3rd pair dman who can play top 4 minutes in a pinch but if you expect him to be an everyday top 4 you’re badly mistaken

So you want Petey, who’s a top 5 center in the league, but want to put protections on the picks you give up? Vancouver might not even take that trade if both picks were guaranteed top 5 picks…

Sure brannstrom is slightly better but he’s nothing special, and he’s also more than double the salary of rathbone and last I checked Ottawa needs every dollar of cap space they can get right now to sign pinto.

If Reinhart comes with an extension that includes a hometown discount for the Canucks I’d probably make that trade otherwise it’s a no. As for the Murphy trade it kinda makes sense but I’d rather Vancouver just get through the last year of Myers and replace him with someone in free agency and keep the 1st

If they don’t sign him I doubt they trade him during the season as they’re trying to compete so after the year when his contract is up they’d flip him for a mid round pick just like New Jersey did with severson this summer instead of let him walk for nothing.
