Dallas Stars signed Roope Hintz (8 Years / $8,450,000 AAV)
Because Roope has already done the bridge deal route to help the team and the expectation is that escrow will be paid off this season so the cap will rise significantly this offseason. The Stars used every available penny in cap space to sign ROBO at the time. Once his bridge deal runs out, he will be making well over $10 million a season.

(NYR/DAL) - Lundkvist for 1st, 4th
Nils has played great in his first 11 games. A Heiskanen/Lundkvist 1-2 punch on the first two pairs for the next 10 years at least, could be scary good.
The First Rounder will likely be in the 20’s (possibly late 20’s early 30’s) and if that happens this deal is a win all day for the Stars. Their young core of Miro, ROBO, Otter, Hintz, JohnsTon, Lundkvist etc could be scary good for a long time. They’ve also got Mavrik Bourque and Logan Stankoven waiting to make the team next year. That’s A LOT of talent under 25 years old.

Dallas Stars 22-23 Out Of Camp V2
This was before Robertson was signed and this was the third version of the roster that I did with varying different ROBO contracts. This roster was ROBO signing for 8 years x $8.75 mil (now after seeing his 4x$7.75 deal it’d likely had been 8x$9.5). I was simply working out what scenarios the stars would have to go through depending on what Robertson signed for.
Although, Gurianov has not impressed at all in camp and that’s with the new coach/more offensive scheme. Hopefully he snaps out of it and produces during the season but I think we could very easily see Guri traded in season. Who knows what the return on him would be. Some teams might look at his 20 goal year and value him more while other teams would say he is what he’s been for the last 2 seasons. So to answer your question, this wasn’t necessarily about projecting what Guri could fetch in a trade but making moves to fit a ROBO long term deal.

Offer Sheet Robertson
Dallas easily matches. They’ve got a variety of moves they can make to keep Robertson at that number. Just burying Khudobin in the minors saves them $1.2 million and puts them at $7.5 mil in cap space so they’d really only be $900K short and that can be made up rather easily. Robertson could sign after day 1 of the official season, the Stars then put Khudobin on LTIR for the year because it’s clear after his 1st 2 preseason games, he’s done after hip surgery last year and they suddenly have plenty of space for $8.4 mil. They could also easily trade Gurianov’s $2.9 mil to another team for a late round draft pick. If all else fails, they can trade a 2nd or 3rd round pick to a team willing to take Khudobin’s last year at $3.3 million.
There is zero chance that Jason Robertson is wearing any other jersey then Victory Green this year.

Dallas Stars signed Colin Miller (2 Years / $1,850,000 AAV)
Lol you probably complained about the Holtby signing until he was playing games. Also probably complained about Glendening and Raffl last year when they were big contributors on cheap deals. I’ll trust Jim Nill’s plan on where he’s going to play Collin Miller. We all know that they didn’t have $6-7 million to drop on a right handed defenseman after addressing scoring which is what the higher tier RHD are getting yet the need for a RHD is still a need so unorganized Nill got Miller on a steal of a deal.

Marchment had a career year and moved to a new org - so it's a bit more of an uphill climb to recreate the situation he was in. Not saying it's impossible, but why the Nuke signing isn't as red flag-y to me.</div></div>
Except this was Nuke’s 3rd year in Colorado and he still didn’t break 30 points until this past season. He’s also about to turn 28 and signed an 8 year deal. One can argue that analytics is overrated as well. Fact still remains that he produced double what he’s done over an 8-9 year career in a contract year. History shows that players like that generally go back to what their career average was instead of being what their one year outlying year was.

So you’re the stars fan type that’s run with this narrative. Is it still going to be the narrative when ROBO and otter sign their new deals? What about Miro and Hintz? Hell Benn and Seguin aren’t even 33 yet.

Yet fans everywhere are cool with Nichushkin signing for 8x$6.25 after having 52 points this season when his previous high was 29 points in his rookie year (8 years ago)

Colorado Avalanche signed Valeri Nichushkin (8 Years / $6,125,000 AAV)
Career high 29 points (in his rookie year) before having 52 points this season. Also a full NMC in the 1st 3 years with a 12 team no trade the last 5 years. Signing bonuses don’t start until the last 4 years of the deal which will make a buyout much more difficult towards the end of the deal.
Yeah, this is a BAD deal and Avs fans are thinking MacKinnon takes a large “hometown discount” after being massively underpaid for years and now watching guys like Val Nuchushkin get 8x$6.125. I highly doubt MacKinnon takes much of a discount while everyone else is getting paid market rate.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Club_de_Hockey_le_Canadien</b></div><div>Heiskanen and Jones make this signing look beautiful</div></div>
This deal actually makes the Heiskanen deal look better. To put Jones in the same conversation as Miro is ridiculous as well. Makar walked himself right to UFA at 28 at $9 mil AAV. Miro who by all experts accounts is right there with Makar, is at $8.45 mil AAV for 2 more years when he’s 29. The Stars bought more UFA years for less AAV that may look like ONLY $550,000 difference now but what will the contract difference be for those 2 extra years Miro is at $8.45 while Makar gets $13-$14 mil AAV as a UFA.
While this contract is right in line with what Makar should’ve gotten, it’s a major fail on Sakic’s part for not getting him signed up for 8, even if it made the AAV go from $9 to $9.5-$10. Those 2 extra UFA years lost is a BIG deal.

2019 OFF-Season
He skated in full at development camp this week. Nill says he expects he’s a player this year. I’d still like to see him play in preseason games before i buy into it. Although it’d be nice to have him back.
This is a decent roster but has pretty much a 1% chance to succeed. Vegas isn’t going to give up Miller for Honka and a 5th. Comeau isn’t going to be traded before Cogliano. Val is more likely to be bought out if anything and the real stickler is that Hanzal’s $4.75 million has to be on the roster on day 1 of the season and then he can be moved to LTIR. So starting the season this way, isn’t possible.

One of the best bluelines in the league
Not enough for Pesce. Honka won’t be on the roster. Johns will be a player this year. Hartman will be closer to $1,000,000 then $1.7. A little rich for Connelly. Also doubt that Carolina deals Pesce now that they’ve traded De Haan. Dellandria won’t be a full time player next season.

Best Case Scenario Stars 2019-2020
Faksa is a legit player. Honka a former 1st rounder that is still in his early 20’s and has skill that needs a change of scenery, Tufte basically represents one of the Stars top prospects, whether it be him, Dellandria or Robertson. I could even see them substituting Gurianov in the Pesce deal if that got it done. The 2021 2nd round pick may very well have to be the 18th overall pick in 2019 for it to work but I think Nill would want a later round pick back in return, such as the 3rd or 4th. Getting both may not happen. I don’t know if Nill would add the 18th pick this year if he knows he’s giving up the 2020 1st rounder to resign Zucc. This roster shows the need for 2 top 6 forwards for the Stars to be true contenders. With the aging core, it’s time to go for it. With that being the case, there were only a few legit top 4 defenseman that had multiple years of team control and at a $4,000,000-$5.500,000 cap hit. Pesce fit the bill
I was going to put Dickinson in at $1,750,000 for a one year deal but I think Nill would prefer to pay the extra $500,000 a year to get Dickinson signed to a 3 year deal. To get Zucc down to $6,000,000 flat, the Stars May have to give him a 5th year.
In the end, this is my opinion of best case scenario. Collin Miller could be had for less then Pesce but he’s not nearly as good.
