I don't see Ek being a good fit in Carolina. Their d group is already loaded. They need a super star forward.
I see this making a lot of sense for Pits but not a lot of sense for Carolina.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mondo</b></div><div>He's been fine and putting him on waivers assuming someone will pick up a 5 million dollar contract is ludicrous.</div></div>
"Fine" doesn't get you a Stanley Cup. Brodie is not a top 4 defenceman on a Stanley Cup winning team.
I think by the deadline the Leafs should either trade him or waive him. Playing him in spring and expecting to win will be a mistake.

Why should they care about the pick? They are contending if it takes a 1st to get Larsson they should.

But losing a first round draft pick could hurt the Leafs.</div></div>
Larsson is a very good two way defenceman with size that hits and gets points and has 2 years term , not a rental.
This makes more sense then Tanev and those trades all include a 1st.
Adding Larsson and Borgen gives us a physical defence man on every pair and will add more points as well.
I like Timmins but he never hits and is still a defensive liability so only has a offensive upside.
This would not hurt TML at all but add two defense that they need with 2 years term at reasonable contracts.

That trade isn’t bad, but the habs would prefer a second over Liljegren and a first over Robertson and a second. They could get that with another team so they would prefer going to that team

Huge difference between a 3rd pair defenseman being traded in November with zero retention vs a 2nd pair defenseman being traded in March with retention. Calgary was also able to get out of LTIR by moving Zadorov's full cap hit. Gotta see the forest for the trees

Hard decision for the Habs but IMO they should take it
Liljegren replace Savard minutes and if Mailloux does not hit, that leaves us with a right side of Reinbacher Barron/Liljgren. While Jarnkrok isn’t the power forward Anderson is, MTL saves a lot of cap space here. Jarnkrok would be a welcome depth addition. I’m definitely not sold on Robertson but with the injuries we have right now, he would get a look on the top 6
A 2nd round pick is also valuable
The line up should be tho :
Knies-Matthews-Nylander
Bertuzzi-Tavares-Marner
Domi-Monahan-Anderson

In what way is Sundqvist washed? He’s been a great defensively, draws a ton of penalties, and even puts up a decent amount of points in a bottom 6 role. Better than anyone in the Leafs bottom 6. Not saying much, but still.

I personally would rather do Niemela and 2024 1st straight up for Larsson at 50% retention. Rather than the 2026 1st and the 3rd. I would like that a lot.

Add Lily(with extension)and 2 3rds for Larsson not retained. Have to use Klingbergs LTIR money and Lily’s contract will free up 1.4M</div></div>
Seattle is currently on pace to finish the season with 71.75 points. They have more games played than all teams around them. So they aren't actually close to a playoff spot right now. It is an elusion. Also the West is super weak right now.
They did have a great run last year though. Seattle needs to add some SUPER star talent to their already decent line up. Beniers and Wright could both turn into that. But they need more draft picks and potential trade chips to get 1-2 super stars.
I think selling a guy like Larsson for this type of package is in their best interest.

Niemela is having a very good year in the AHL.

I tend to make everything a bit of an overpay otherwise it just turns into an argument about value as opposed to acquiring said player.

You have added 2 d-men but no physical play. Who clears the front of the net, not Ferraro, not sure about Tanev but he doesn't hit. No snot here, so if this is who Trev is looking at then he is full of crap. Leafs need size and nasty back there, this is not it.

You'd be acquiring him for the 4th line to play a defensive role, where I'm reading he has a positive defensive rating thats in the 70th percentile. As well as a market value of 2.1 million compared to the league min he makes.
Are we reading the same chart?:tearsofjoy

Despite the cost it might still be worth it for the Oilers
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Affectionate_Side_64</b></div><div>Lol, so Broberg and Lavoie are free falling assets despite having just turned 22 and 23 years old this year, with both having done nothing to prove they aren't well on their way to becoming a top 4 D with size and mobility and a top 6 PWF. Do you think there'd be any news about a 22 year old defenseman looking for a trade if he wasn't already being blocked by Nurse and Ekholm in the top 4, despite the fact he's only 22?
It's truly hilarious that you'd describe the Oilers side of the trade as having the free falling assets, when that's literally what both Saros and McDonagh are at this point. Despite that fact, NSH would be getting even more than they would if both were in their absolute primes, which Saros is closer to but McDonagh is well past. Ceci is already playing the same role as McDonagh on the Oilers, with roughly the same results. Even if McDonagh were a slight upgrade today in terms of ability, Ceci would still be way more valuable at less than half his cap hit. Swapping McDonagh with Ceci and Broberg would probably be an immediate improvement to their defense, not to mention how much better it would be for the future of their backend.
You can talk about Campbell being a cap dump, but that's essentially what McDonagh is as well, as proven by Tampa having dumped him 2 years ago, when he was even younger and better than he is now. The cap would be a wash until the end of next year, and then you'd actually be saving 1.75 mil for the next year when McDonagh will be 37.
Carter is a bonus as there's already more than enough value here for NSH, but you can still take a gamble on him becoming a contributor. And to add to 22 year old Broberg, 23 year old Lavoie and 21 year old Carter, you have TWO FIRSTS AND A SECOND. Keeping in mind that guys like Josi, Saros and ROR were all taken in the 2nd round or later, and that you're a rebuilding/retooling team who has Askarov on the way.
9 dimes don't make a dollar, we all know that. You just don't know how to count change, or you're mistaking dimes for loonies and twoonies.</div></div>
I disagree with you.
Good day!

Fun stat
For the last 2 seasons
Best defensive impact by RAPM: 1. Jared Spurgeon 2. TJ Brodie 3. Nick Seeler 4. Rasmus Ristolainen 5. Brendan Dillon 6. Chris Tanev
https://twitter.com/nylanderthews/status/1730657004769726625
And everyone be wanting Tanev rn.... hmmmmm
Now the question is, does this involve Philly's system or has he reshaped his game. Also price tag could be argued as high
