I think the Nashville trade makes most sense for the Kings, but that's just me. At one point, Fabbro was said to have top 2 potential. He's not really working out in Nashville it seems like though and obviously Ekholm is on the block and he'd make a perfect short term partner for Doughty while Anderson and Bjornfot develop with easier minutes.</div></div>
If the Leafs are trading Rielly they definitely need a return that helps them now and Thomas plus picks is probably an under-pay anyway. Vilardi plus a 1st seems fair assuming the Kings are re-signing Rielly long-term in the process.

DID LA want a DYNAMIC LD
Also keep in mind that Rielly can't sign a new contract until this offseason so if the Kings were interested in Rielly a trade would have to wait until then.
A prospect of Byfield's calibre is out of the question but an offseason sign-and-trade deal would fetch a 1st plus high-end prospect in return I would think.

Bjornfot and Anderson despite capable LHD are not dynamic. Dermott is not dynamic either, so I can't see LA trading for him. Lehtonen is dynamic, but 27, and a tire fire in his own end, and trading for him would make no sense as he is UFA this summer and they could just sign him. I am sure Toronto would gladly trade Lehtonen now if anyone was willing to give up anything half decent for him (and I would celebrate).</div></div>
Yeah I think a trade centered around Sandin for a Kings C prospect would be more fitting with what the Kings need. I would want Vilardi or better in return though (ducks for cover).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ZiggyPalffy</b></div><div>It was on the NHL App news feed the other day.
Again, Dermott would be lost to Seattle because we can't protect him so it would basically be Liljegren and Sandin which is declined by LA. No team ever trades their 21 year old 2C for prospects. Ever. I don't care about value, it doesn't happen nor should it. Dermott has been in the NHL on one of the best offensive teams in the league and hasn't done anything worth protecting him over Clague. Clague played 18-20 mins a game and did great, he's not worth losing so we can protect Dermott.</div></div>
One more time because I have nothing better to do: Kale Clague is almost 23 years old and is currently playing in the AHL. Travis Dermott is 24 years old and has played 175 games on a far superior team. And he has consistently won the minutes he's been given by any reasonable metric.

So what you're saying is it's a reasonable trade, but fanbases over-value their own prospects. Got it!

Vilardi is a Calder candidate and is 2nd in votes in our division. Obviously Kaprizov is going to win it, but it shows you how the league sees Vilardi, not just the Kings fans.
Vilardi is off limits no matter how bad you want to downplay his value.</div></div>
Where are these Calder votes you're talking about? You realize the voting happens at the end of the year right?
And also, I'm entirely open to the fact that the trade as proposed might not work. It's statements like "Kings say no to Vilardi for Sandin, Liljegren, and Dermott", or "the Kings would protect Clague over Dermott" that show you're over-valuing your players.

LOL Clague is only a year younger than Dermott and can't crack one of the worst D corps in the league. And when you start quoting points totals for defensemen over 9 games you've already lost the argument.

Given the fact that half the teams in the league don't have a good 2C, I'd say you're wrong about Vilardi.
It doesn't matter though because as it stands the Kings are right outside a playoff spot and Vilardi is a big part in why we aren't at the bottom again.
That argument that because the Kings are a bad team that's why he plays 2C instead of 3C doesn't really hold weight anymore.</div></div>

I get it, the past few years have been tough and any signs of light at the end of the tunnel will get you excited. But being outside the playoffs after 20 games means absolutely nothing. Kings are bottom of the league in expected goals percentage at 5v5 so I would be looking for them to come back to earth.

I don’t want Sandin if I’m Blake, I want Lehtonen, Vilardi is the Kings best graduated prospect if a team wants him, it won’t be cheap.</div></div>
Who do you mean by Lehtonen? Surely you don't mean Mikko Lehtonen.
A few recent prospect rankings published by The Athletic have Sandin ahead of Vilardi. I haven't seen anywhere that has the reverse. Mind you Vilardi's stock has surely risen this year.

He's a 2C on a mediocre hockey team, not a 2C for most teams. Sandin is a year younger and he's a defenseman (i.e. longer to develop) playing on a team with a backlog of LD. I'm not sure there's a single LD on the Kings that would crack the Leafs lineup.

General consensus is that Sandin is better prospect than Vilardi. Not saying I agree (probably close), but to add to a trade where you get Dermott who would play in the Kings top 4 and Liljegren who is a top D in the AHL would be a massive overpay for the Leafs. I could see a Sandin-Vilardi trade making sense but not on top of Dermott and Liljegren.

Niemela would be a great get, we need another RD prospect cuz we legit have 1, then obviously Amirov is great and then likely a late second.
He does need more ice time than third line minutes tho. I'm also not sure he fits the Leafs playing style too great. Think kinda low grade Malkin. Not a tough guy, but super strong physically, great puck possessor and board player. Not sure the Leafs would use him that way.</div></div>
All of those qualities sound like they would fit in nicely with the Leafs given their emphasis on puck possession and need for players that are strong on the boards. Agree that 3C is a bit beneath Hertl, but I would envision him getting plenty of time in the top 6 and PP.
