Looks good. Pretty much the same team as this year. I like seeing Stankoven in the lineup. That will be a good story if it happens.

The Hawks trade is fair. Helps the Hawks get to cap floor. Players make sense. Contract duration makes sense. But Hawks are really deep at LD. I'm not sure how much Reilly can play his off side or how much D-sidedness even matters.

Do BUF fans really want to get rid of Jokiharju? He seems like a steady D. I'd argue he's way better than Stillman, Lyubushkin, and Stone.

OK. That's a trade that can be made.... if you want. But just for fun lets just say there is NO WAY the Hawks will give up a 2024 5th round pick.... that needs to be a 6th round pick. Sorry, being sarcastic. I literally have no opinion about this at all. But it's comical to see some people actually taking that trade seriously. So many emotions!

Building Blocks 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SupremeBone</b></div><div>Canucks fans can correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure both Poolman and Pearson are slated for LTIR "retirement" so this move doesn't open up that cap space for them and MIkheyev was actually really quite good for them. So, your trade has them trading a capable middle-6 W that had success with them, 4 picks (including a 1st), and some LTIR deadweight for a solid RD prospect and an actual deadweight RD that doesn't crack their lineup even without any offseason upgrades at RD (an upgrade that should be a priority for them). In light of that, you're likely gonna have to revise your thinking on that one.</div></div>
I totally agree with you. A few days prior to this I did "Building Blocks" that has a different VAN trade that plays right into the angle about LTIR that you mentioned. Thanks so much.

Predicted Lineup amp Changes
Hawks need to get to the cap floor a Murphy's contract is very helpful in that regard. Also, he's really well liked. Not saying the Hawks would not trade him, but the return would have to be eye popping similar to when Hagel got traded for two 1st's at the deadline in 2022. With that said, I think the Hawks and VAN do deals this summer.

Correct. Dumping Zaitsev with retained salary to give cap relief to VAN by taking on Myers and his full contract. VAN really needs cap relief. Hawks might like the size and toughness of Myers and the contract duration is a decent fit for the Hawks rebuild timeline. I love the feedback and comments and made a "Building Block 2" with the feedback. Thanks.

Not undoing the Seth Jones trade because it's still too fresh and it's not an "on the fence" move. It will either be a home run or a complete flop. A lot of critique came from the Hjalmarsson trade, but it doesn't look like a bad trade after you give it time to simmer. With that said, haven't bought a Jones jersey yet.

Making the playoffs
Looks good. I especially like that Petr Mrazek add. I think keeping Hinostroza on a low cap hit as a depth forward would also be a smart addition due to his speed. He'd play 1/3 to 2/3 of the games depending on the opponent and injury situation. I just have to point out, however, that there's no way Dallas parts with Esa Lindell. Lindell is loved in Dallas and he has a very team friendly contract. Heiskanen, Klingberg, and Lindell are as untouchable on Dallas as Keith, Seabrook, and Hjalmarsson were for the Hawks in their prime. I think Zadorov will go to arbitration and be on the Hawks one more season. The Hawks wont sell low on Zadorov due to the ties to Saad, so maybe Zadorov can have a good season and get dealt at the trade deadline, regardless of the playoff picture.

Proposed Lines Updated with Strome Traded
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>csick</b></div><div>Strome would cost a 1st or at least a real good prospect and a 2nd</div></div>
I don't think Anaheim gives up a 1st. They are not a top contender where Strome is the missing piece to put them over the edge. They are in somewhat of a rebuild mode themselves and probably value their 1st rounder. Based on this past season, the odds are it will be a high 1st rounder. But the arguments that Strome is worth a 1st++ are valid so this trade probably wont happen. Hawks will probably sign Strome to a contract that expires in 2023, the same year as Kane, Toews, Debrincat, and Keith. Maybe with so many players in a contract year going into the 2023 offseason the Hawks will have more to play for in the 2022-23 season. Contract years are motivators. The Seattle expansion draft will also play out by then and there's probably an angle to consider there.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PreemoForGM</b></div><div>Wakey Wakey Backes. That alone stops this lol.</div></div>
Some folks have hypothesized that Stan Bowman is trying to shake things up to make the Hawks core more willing to waive their NMC's. This trade feeds right into those theories, don't ya think? I don't believe those theories are true, but they are documented on social media. Backes is scratched a lot of games. The Hawks could acquire Backes and then assign him to Rockford, in which case he probably wouldn't report and the contract would be terminated. There are a lot of angles here.

Are you a Ducks fan? If so, do Ducks fans want to dump the Backes contract or is it no big deal? I know the Loui Erikson contract in Vancouver is terrible and the Backes contract looked bad when the Bruins signed him, but I'm not sure how Ducks fans feel about it. I don't even know how the Ducks acquired Backes. It just looked like the Ducks need a cap dump trade and the Hawks want to acquire picks and prospects.

Thanks. We're on the same page with Backes being a bad contract, but it would be off our books after one year. It's good to know that the return on Strome could be pretty high in a trade. All the more reason to trade him if he wont take a team friendly bridge deal.

Are you a Hawks fan or Ducks fan? I don't know a lot of examples of what the return is on RFA rights being traded, but a few years back when the Hawks traded the RFA rights to Andrew Shaw we got a high 2nd round pick in return. That trade was made at the draft when picks have more immediate value so maybe a 1st rounder makes sense. Thanks for commenting.

The revolving door of coaches is not opinion. That's fact. Phil Housley was an absolute disaster! And the Ryan O'Reilly comments after he was traded to the Blues are a credible, informed opinion. But the times seem to be changing and Buffalo has made some good moves for the first time in a decade this offseason. Hall and Eichel should be a good point pair in Fantasy Hockey.

Kaner
Kane is chasing Blackhawks franchise points records that have stood for decades which sells tickets to games and further cements Kane's legacy in the NHL. It's a win win for the Hawks and Kane to stay together through thick and thin. However, I do think Buffalo is an ideal destination for Kane if something changed. Can you imagine how pissed off Toronto fans would be if the Buffalo Sabers emerged out of obscurity to win a Cup before Toronto. It's hard to disagree that Buffalo can be a very good team with the moves they've made this off season. 100% agree that a Kane trade with Buffalo involves Cozens. And we want Jokiharju back!

Hawks fans thoughts
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>etpeck</b></div><div>Necas would be a total nostarter for the canes</div></div>
Kane sells Jerseys and Tickets, Necas doesn't. And there's a lot of Chicago transplants in NC, especially Raleigh. Also, I see a 2022 1st being included in the deal but the Hawks would probably throw in a 2022 2nd. Hawks management will want to say they got two 1st round pics for trading away the only Blackhawks 1st overall pick, one of the best American born players ever, and the revenue possibilities of decade old franchise scoring records being broken. The real question is will Kane waive his NMC clause to go to Raleigh? I've been to a game in Raleigh and I'm going to say that's a hard "no". Kane isn't married with kids yet and I don't see Raleigh offering what Kane is looking for other than the Canes are a good team and the fans in Carolina are legit. Hope this perspective helps.
