Signing Toews

Like yae, preferably a proper NHL-starter in goal is what you want. But at the expense of Mikko or Bo? Who makes the most impact during a season, goalies are always gonna be coinflips with 1 mill goalkeepers outplaying 5 mills. Rather roll the dice on a unproven cheap goalie than lose Mikko or Bo imo.

Signing Toews
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NMAvsFan</b></div><div>I think if the Avs are determined to re-sign Toews and he is determined to stay and wants that long-term deal, he's going to have to come come off a high AAV. I can't see anyone giving him more than 6 years in UFA due to his age and $9M is probably the max anyone is going to go; that's $54M total. Over 7 years, that's comes down to $7.71M; over 8 years, that's $6.75M per. If he gives a bit of a hometown discount (leaves some money on the table in order to stay put), $6.5Mx8 or $7.5Mx7 feels about right. I still feel pretty strongly that the Avs will need that money to re-sign Mikko, Bo and Cale plus improve the forward group in the future so handing that much to a 30+ y/o D-man is super risky.</div></div>
Johansen and Georgiev money can go to Mikko and Bo, Colton promoted to 2nd C and roll without a proper NHL-starter in goal could maybe work.

Signing Toews
I agree with this solution, out with Manson and get Toews to stay with term. For sure other teams will be interested of Toews for a higher cap, but we got the 8th year in hand. Of course there are risks with 8 years for a guy above 30. But Toews seem really professional and takes care of his body as well as not playing a punishing style of play. Lets hope something similar to this will work! Unfortunately Drouin is a one year and then leave regardless, bad play = no re-sign while good play = too expensive.

I agree with this, their forward side looks like its going to be great in regular season but with a lot of players with choke potential in playoffs. The avs feel hungry this season with cup potential.

Yet another take on game 1 rosterlines
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Avsfantrumpetman</b></div><div>And even if Drouin can't hang, we have Tatar as a back-up option who can still skate with that top 6. I think you could see Nichuskin and Lehky switch spots, but other than that I agree this top 6 looks potentially more put together than last year's. And if we have an expectation of a 50-point season from RyJo as opposed to an 80-90, we're gonna be happy with his play.</div></div>
Agreed, if Drouin can't do the top 6 role then Tatar can. But then the bottom 6 looks rather stingless (depending on how good Colton is).
Anyways, think we got a real cup contender again this year!

Goalies Option 1
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NMAvsFan</b></div><div>There will be league-minimum level goalies with NHL experience available</div></div>
"with NHL experience" is a crappy argument to sig somebody over testing a prospect. The available goalies with NHL experience are goalies that have been tried by others that lack quality or are old af. Roll the dice on Annunen to start with, if it doesn't work out then try the options available. The team can easily cope with temporarely bad/mediocre goaltending

Drouin is playing top 6 winger or not playing at all, having him playing bottom 6 would be a huge liability defensively. Bear is injured right?

Since Manson is never healthy, but not damaged enough to be ltir I don't see that contract to be good even though he can be good indeed. Girard is a workhorse that can be counted on all season. But yeah, you're probably right we are likely to loose them both in order to keep Toews. Cap hell will be real going forward..

Why will Girard probably be traded? Better to keep a quality player on quality contract on the roster and just dump Manson after june 15th?

Drouin was signed specifically to play MacKinnon's wing and if he can't thrive there he's probably cut. Cogliano will definitely get the 4th like LW spot. Our D pairings are more fluid than my bathroom trips after eating taco bell, but under no circumstances will JJ and Manson be on the ice together.</div></div>
What he said.
Think we will see Malinski get a chance in 3rd pair if we do not trade for Timmins. JJ scratch if Manson is healthy.

Just make the Timmins-trade happen already, we know that Manson will get hurt sooner or later and proper quality depth will be needed. I was really sad when we lost him, he played really well when healthy for us. This is a great way to get him back basically for free.

Then why would Columbus accept this move? Just to get rid of some cap, or whats in it for them?

Don't think the avs will pay that for a winger, even though it seems like sort of a fine trade. Try something with Hayes to avs instead, there we have interest! Something aroung Girard or Toews against Hayes with50% retention and some assets and avs would be interested imo.

plus in this trade with Toews resigning it made Byram expendable and they tried a and b and it didn't work and can't waste years while in McKinnon, Makar, Landeskog, Toews and Rantanen so go for an established goalie and vet backup with Delia as number 3 who got 11 wins in Vancouver which should get him a purple heart so if Quick or Hellebyuck go down they aren't screwed
Jets do this in a heart beat to get Byram and Avs are going all in for the cup now</div></div>
No it is not a better lineup than what we started with in october.
Byram is not expendable, hes a beast. We are trading Girard and buying out Manson way before we trade Byram. Of course wpg would be jumping on this trade, cause its a total fleece. You propose a bunch of moves without even adressing that we need a 2C, which has been our main issue this season and playoff. OO does not seem to be remotely close to 2nd line caliber.

Wtf is this? Why sign Malgin and Newhook for 3? What the hell is that Wpg trade? We do not need to do anything at goalie, Georgiev and Frankie are great value contracts. We are not getting Byram to sign at 2M, gonna be offer sheeted. If trading Sammy, there has to be some sort of value to be gained.

Next year with PLD
I like this team, hope we get somehwere close to this. I love SammyG, but we can't go another season without a 2C. It just doesn't hold up. I'm so mad at the Manson signing, we knew it would blow up in our faces. Still management signed him with a NTC. Can't believe that they did that, completely put us in a **** position.
Regarding depth pieces, I think there is a possibility of JJ comming back on a league minimum due to his kind of good play since comming back. I would like that somehow.
Edit; Also think Foudy could make the team this year and make an impact, really liked him the few games he was up! Maybe we'll see some of the college guys making the team as well, lets hope so.

(COL/CHI) - Englund for Johnson
Been happy with Enlund's game this season. JJ on the other hand was a frustrating piece to have in the lineup and he has likely declined since last season. Think there should be enough good locker room guys in the lineup as it is, don't see the need to add JJ again.. However, guess all in all it makes little to no overall impact to trade a 7th dman.

Avs will not move a good player on a great contract for a rental. Just doesn't make sense to move a great contract to "free up" cap space since you need great contracts to contend in cap-world. Mac contract will be solved with money from Johnson contract expiring. Byram will of course be a future problem and could lead to either him or G leaving, but that will happen earliest summer 2023.
