I think we overpay in all of these trades, but especially the Wilson trade. He's got toughness sure, but Robertson alone easily has the potential to be much better than him.

Thread: Adding Another to the Plethora of Marner Trade Proposals Today

Aside from the ages and potential, Marner may not be the better goal scorer, but why do we need another top-six goal scorer? We have JT and Matthews who are elite goalscores (as well as Nylander who was on pace for 40 and Hyman who was on pace for 30+). Marner is important because his vision allows these guys to score. Kane wouldn't do that.

Also, this doesn't really help us moneywise or fill any major needs.

There's no way that gets us Dunn, nor does he sign for so little. Probably has an argument for a top 20-25 defenceman already at 24.

I don't love that trade from the Leafs perspective. For one, neither guy helps the team much now (and Johnston at 26 doesn't have much room to grow). I would probably take Engvall over him and Dermott over Aho.

Matthews is probably the third-best center there, but Kuch and Bread are likely the best wingers.

Mcdavid is the best player in the league and I'm a huge fan of Stone.

Eichel is very good, and Marchand is a top 3-4 winger in the league IMO, and Pasta isn't too far behind.

Mack is great, but Kane and Ovi aren't as good as they used to be (and therefore aren't as good as guys like Stone, Marchand, Kich, Bread)

This is really good depth. I'm kind of sad because I want all of these guys to get at least a couple of games of action, but it's unlikely because there are so many of them.

Thread: An Actual Good Marner Trade PT 2

While I don't hate the trade (I don't think we should trade Marner but it's not terrible), I'd be very worried about the term on both those contracts. They're both gonna want raises in two years and we have other contracts (mainly Rielly) to worry about that year. I'd prefer to keep Marner locked up for 5 years.

There would be no reason for the leafs to make this trade. For one, we don't need another Centreman (and Matthews is better at center, so there's no point putting him at wing), and that's way too much to pay for Barkov (Nylander isn't much worse than him and that's 2 of our best prospects)

For one, Dumba is in no way what the Leafs need. He's an all offence guy when we need someone who's a bit more defensive-minded. We could also probably get a guy for somewhat cheaper (by free-agency or trade). Johnsson is a very solid middle-six forward, Dermott is very young and really underrated and that 2nd is a pretty valuable pick. I would consider giving up that much if it was someone who might fit our team a little better, but Dumba really isn't what we need.

While it's true that Leafs fans on this site often make those trades, most of those guys don't understand how valuable both players could be. They're both good middle-six forwards who can play in the top-six and are under 25 on solid deals. People often forget how good Johnsson was in his rookie year and how valuable a good 3C is. If Kapanen (a guy who's probably worse than both these players) can get the 13th OA and more, these guys can definitely get at least a late first.

Yeah, this is something I've never understood. Johnsson had a great year last year (which was his rookie year) and he was solid while he wasn't injured this year. He's 25 (which isn't THAT old) and still has good top-six line potential.

That may be the worst ever trade for the Leafs. A good player, two good prospects and 2 great picks for a guy we don't particularly need. Dumba just isn't the kind of player the leafs need and he's the 4th best d-man on his own team.
