Three New Defencemen
Canucks fan chiming in on Zadorov; I've loved what he's brought to the team this year and I hope he extends in VAN. BUT, I'm not that high on giving him a 5m AAV. To me he's an excellent #5 that can play solid #4 minutes with the right partner. The hope would be he signs for closer to $4m and he gets chemistry with the right partner on a 2nd pair.

I think NYR would start their ask in a potential Lafreniere deal with Lekkerimaki, plus a pick and/or player. At which point it probably doesn't make sense for VAN.

Ducks to playoffs realistic
I'd say a lot has to go right for this team to make the playoffs next year; bounce-back from Zegras, the kids to make a big jump in development, etc. Could happen, but it's a pretty big swing. Toffoli and DeMelo would be solid adds, and even if they are a little overpaid here the Ducks can afford it under the cap.

I'd be open to him extending at the right price/term, but some other team will overpay for his services just because he can play center.

I'm not sure if Toffoli for Mikheyev makes us better to be honest.
I think re-signing Blueger is one of the most important things for us to do this offseason and I don't see why others are letting him go.</div></div>
Agree about both your points on Lindholm and Blueger. But I think Toffoli is a definite top 6 upgrade over Mikheyev. Not sure they'll move Mikheyev to make the space though.

There's no way I'd give up Hronek for Necas straight up. Firmly disagree on that evaluation.

Bold swing for local boy Reinhart! Love that. I'm not sure he'll be worth that contract though, this has been a bit of an outlier offensive season for him (SH% is through the roof compared to his average). But he's also a fantastic possession player, so maybe he would be worth it overall. Sounds like he's really hoping to extend in FLA though.
I can definitely see the team letting Lindholm walk, unless he goes on a crazy run in the playoffs. Personally I'd like to bring back Zadorov at the right price. His physical presence has been massive, and like a bunch of other guys, his overall game has improved a fair bit under Tocchet's system.

BTW, I should also say I love this roster you've built. Big fan of bringing back all of Blueger, Joshua and Zadorov if the price is right. Would love Toffoli back. And IMO Chatfield would be a sneaky good pickup if they miss out on a guy like Tanev. Very curious to see what kind of contract he'll get.

I agree they should just keep him (unless there's a real opportunity to upgrade via trade where he gets thrown in the deal). Even through his offensive drought he's still been a pretty good possession player, and has looked better in the o-zone the last little while. Hopefully he can continue building some chemistry with Miller and Boeser.

Unless he goes on a crazy good run into and during the playoffs I really doubt Lindholm will be extending in VAN. They currently have him as a 3C and there's no way they're going to pay him the money he'll want in that role. If they bump him back up to play on Petey's RW and they really gel then I could see it.
Agree on Zadorov. I think he'll get a bit of a raise, and I do think VAN will try to extend him. I'm thinking mid-range term at around $4m.

Given how good he's been the last few seasons, plus his age, I honestly wouldn't be upset if he signed an 8x8 in VAN. I'm hoping the AAV ends up a little lower (I'm predicting an 8 x $7.75m compromise), but he's a legitimate top pairing guy. Is he a true #1? No, probably not. But he's been an excellent #2 guy.

I've read that his camp will try to use Sergachev's contract (8.5 AAV) as a comparable, and that VAN's initial offer came in around 6.5-6.75. I think if he ends up signing in VAN long term it will be roughly the middle of those. I'm predicting 7.75 because it's just a little under Hughes' AAV.

I think I'd rather just keep Hronek at 8x8 along with Raty and the 1st. Maybe move the 1st in a different deal to upgrade the forwards.

Lafferty definitely won't get that from the Canucks. He started the season really well but recently he's been a healthy scratch at times. I like him as a 4th liner, but not much more.
And I think $8m will be the real tipping point for the Canucks to make a decision with Hronek. I could see Allvin being negotiated to that 8 mark, but if Hronek's side demands more I think they trade him for a package before (or at) the draft.

Well thought out post; good explanations.
IMO Blueger and Joshua both sign elsewhere if they end up with those AAV's. Allvin/Rutherford are going to be very mindful of not overpaying for middle-to-bottom of the lineup guys. They'll definitely want both of them back, but I don't see the team going any higher than 3 for either.
Hronek will probably ask for 8.5 or more, but again I think the team will have a ceiling that they won't go higher than, and that's likely around 8. Ideally it's in the 7.5 range but in the end I'm betting they settle on a 7.75 AAV. At 8.5 I think they sell high on him in the trade market.
Tanev will get between 4 and 5 AAV, not sure what Dillon gets.

No Kessel = no real disappointment. He'd likely be a scratch on most nights anyway. I'm a little disappointed they didn't meet the price for Toffoli, as I think he'd be a definite top 6 upgrade. But if the team can keep playing the way they did last night I'm still optimistic.

Agreed. Let teams have a playoff taxi squad if they want, but the active roster should have to stay under the cap until the offseason.
