Gorton and KH, last summer. There.
Which is why we take them seriously when they change their tune.

Kent got alittle cocky last year after putting up 40 points and didn’t get any bigger in the off-season. (This year was a wake up call and he should be much better next year (If he can recover enough this off-season to work out)
I think this season humbled him a bit and to be honest was probably the best thing for him tbh.
Can’t wait to see what he can become in Columbus.
Value on a trade would have to be a 1-1 swap of equal value players. Not looking for quantity in a trade back at this time.

He plays against weaker competition with similar teammates on a stacked team. Caufield is also having a down year offensively. He is also producing more while being younger. Stop with your bias. Caufield is the better player
Travis Boyd has a better pts/60 than both of them. Guess he is the better player…

this is like arguing Chocolate Milk vs White Milk
Its Milk and though different are more or less on the same level with trade offs one might consider negative on both sides.
Necas is a better Playmaker , slightly better defensively
Caufield the better Goal Scorer slightly worse defensively
Caufields no worse off then Necas at his age is the rub as CC has time on his side and a sweet contract.
Trade off is Necas can take Faceoffs at least as much as Drouin did
As is Cole's on pace to beat Necas offense at the same age.
I like Necas alot but he's taken longer to do less.
It'd be different if he was a True Center already partially developed like you got with Kotkanemi
But he's not so its not really worth giving up Goal Scoring on a team that needs it

We already have been over that. Caufield is the better player and has the most potential and skills. Better production, better goal scoring production, not far defensively. Better production this year while being 2 years younger and coming back from an injury.
Also, when acquiring young player, you absolutely pay for potential lol. Nobody is giving up a top 10 pick in value for a 60 pts player if there wasn’t for potential

To get Necas, we would have to give up a big piece. So, our 2024 first. It could also be Caufield, but Carolina are adding in a Caufield - Necas swap as Caufield is undoubtedly the superior player

I like Necas. He plays the kind of speedy game the Habs want to play. That being said, offer sheet is not happening with this Habs management group. Maybe a trade.

ZEGRAS TRADE AT 6TH OVERALL PICK
Since being drafted 9th, Zegras lost value because of his abysal defensive play and the shorter term toward free agency.
We's worth a top 15, or low 1st round pick ++
Zero chance MTL gives a 6th for him.

ZEGRAS TRADE AT 6TH OVERALL PICK
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GiggywithGibby</b></div><div>Underachieving how, the fact that he's played 5 games healthy all year? He tried to play through a groin injury at the start of the year that landed him on IR, had a few games back before he got dumped into the boards and broke his ankle. The fact that he had back to back 60+ points seasons with no sophomore slump shows what he can consistently do. The very small sample size this year is not indictive of the player he is.</div></div>
The fact that the hype isn’t backed by production. Back to back 60 point seasons don’t make you a 1C. The hype around the kid makes you think he’s a Jack Hughes clone but he’s not remotely close. The highlight reels on YouTube don’t mean he’s worth multiple 1sts or a 1st and an A level prospect.

Go Ask Yzerman if he would do Edvinsson and his 2nd for Zegras.
Go ask Columbus if they would do Jiricek + 2nd For Zegras.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mv21227</b></div><div>Zegras is also far more valuable than Dach/Newhook were. Dach had a career high of 26 points, and Newhook had a career high of 33 points on a loaded Colorado team. Meanwhile Zegras has a multiple 60+ point seasons on terrible Anaheim teams. Obviously points aren’t everything but he’s still more valuable than Dach/Newhook easily
For comparisons sake, Zegras has a slightly higher PPG than Caufield in their careers, Zegras can play center, and both are bad defensively. Zegras’ value would be closer to what you’d ask for in a Caufield trade</div></div>
Business in a Capitalistic Society is Supply vs Demand with the exception of someone using Leverage to their advantage ,them's the rules of business 10/10 , 100/100 and a 1000/1000. I talk with ANA fans and have this debate often , a few of which i speak with above where we literally touch back on conversations we had about everything you just said and more. Zegras is great , i want him at the right price. Barron is a great player and ANA wants him at the right price. (Harris less so but would take with a top 15 pick this year basically). Same as they want to sell him at the right price even if that means sitting on him during a decline after a new contract(We did that with Petry too and it worked out so its logical"
As for other Draft Day Deals they were situational as is the Zegras trade now.
Circumstances beyond their immediate control given the context of their said situations.
Same reason CHI got a ridiculous return for Hagel from TBL based on Situational needs and leverage.
Teams get less too sometimes for the same reason like LAK who had a Surplus of Valuable D for too long. They ended up selling low on Durzi, Walker and Grans
MTL has done the same potentially if we dont move Savard and Kovacevic out in their final years , its the cost of doing business sometimes.
All that said there is NO WAY we get Newhook that cheap unless Colton Ross was there to help upgrade and bridge the gap cause they NEEDED Newhook to become Kadri's replacement basically as his ELC expired . He wasnt ready Colton was closer and COL seeing their window is getting tighter with this core made a change.
Dach was trade like Danault for nothing cause of injury issues in CHI
CHI hedged their bets and lost again in my books. That said Danault rise was consistent and relatively injury free so Dach could still bust.
Regardless Dach was acquired because KK left and MB final move as GM was to replace him with Dvorak paying more then CAR did for KK or MTL did for Dach
Situation was only possible because of NYI rough finish to the season followed by a need for Defense after Romanov made a name for himself in the playoffs as a Huge Hitter after laying out Pietrangelo clean.
Zegras again would be Situational and lets say ANA reunites Vatrano with his center Reinhart ANA now has the room ,and then some
The right draft pick this year (Top 3 would set them up big) along with a big return for Zegras and adding Gauthier , Their rebuilds over as they got depth on all fronts
1st this year has value to the point i'd almost rather keep the WPG pick and trade the CGY one
Barron gives them a player who should be in the NHL log jammed into a AHL role like Jordan Spence was in LAK for over a year based on him having Waiver Exempt Status more or less but i digress.
Farrell i'd rather keep and offer up Kidney, Kappnen or Beck as all 3 are playing for 1 job that Dach is more likely to lock down
Farrell is a speedy playmaker with great vision and on a team accumulating Goal Scorer but has no elite Playmakers, developing Farrell is important for us right now.
On paper ANA would get more Value then COL or CHI did from us if you take 1st in 2025 , Barron and Beck that 's two 1st round picks with Barron being a former and Beck the 1st pick in the 2nd round who has chemistry playing with McTavish at Junior and Team Canada levels for Zegras.
Before Zegras's wedge with his team this year after their contract talks didnt go smoothly , that was where me and a few ANA fans were at with Zegras Value.
The only way that increased was with ANA RS 50% for 2 remaining year at which point they'd get a 2nd in 2026 and an upgrade from the CGY pick to the WPG one this year. Which for the record is more then i'd likely get for Caufield who like Gallagher has a value worth more then cash or any trade can replace
(and hughes would never sign him a blank check like MB did Gally as a big F you on his way out to ownership, Hence no GM job or real power since but i digress)

My reply was and is that I have no reason yet to believe that Minten can play in the AHL, let alone the NHL, whereas I have a factual basis for believing that Gaucher can do both. I'm sorry if that is insufficient for you.</div></div>
Sorry, but it kind of is. Not your reply - you did answer exactly what I asked. I just don't agree with that process of evaluation.
You have every right to your opinion of course, but the foundation of that opinion is incredibly feeble. The declaration of one prospect as "far better" based on a lack of knowledge of how the other would perform at a separate sub-NHL level due to an age discrepancy - especially when we have a direct level comparison between the two where they performed similarly (the edge even going to Minten) - is just unfounded to me.
And let's not forget Minten did, in fact, make the NHL out of camp and showed he was capable of playing at this level but was sent down for developmental reasons.

Do you have actual stats to back up that Zegras played in tougher matchups or are you just assuming that because Cozens played behind Tage...
Because Zegras' zone starts suggest that he played extremely sheltered situations...
Not to mention Cozens' most common linemates were JJ Paterka and Jack Quinn, so it's not exactly like he was playing with world beaters while Zegras was anchored with scrubs lol.
