Oilers have two of the best players in the world, one on a ridiculously good deal, and haven't gotten the job done. 0 Stanley Cups. Do you consider that success?

Ignoring Struble's trade value (it's not a 1st), Sens have Tyler Kleven (big, physical LD who likes to hit). He played well in the NHL last season, and is playing great in Belleville this season.
So why are the Sens trading for Struble? They already have that type of player in house, waiting for the logjam at LD to be cleared up.

A Gamble

To add to this: He wasn't available when they were in a cap crunch. Since then, the owner has attended games where fans were chanting for Pinto (even in blowout wins). Owner took a run at the league for suspending Pinto. Pinto will now be cheaper! And they've added a big Pinto fan in the front office (Dave Poulin, based on his many morning interviews on TSN1200). Alfie was even working with Pinto before he joined the coaching staff.
It will take a massive overpayment to get the Pinto out of Ottawa. I'd argue Norris is more available than Pinto.

But yes, a 4th round pick is useless.
Maybe GM being BFF with the owner is why the Sens are the bottom of the league right now when they were expected to make the playoffs this year and give the East a problem. Maybe Ottawa would be in better shape if they focused on winning and doing what's best for the franchise, than hanging out braiding each others hair playing Chel and making poor decisions for the team (such as letting a good player walk for nothing instead of taking a good prospect and pick).
But we'll see what happens.</div></div>
The owner took over during training camp. The GM officially became GM last week.
They haven't had much of a chance to do much, beyond parting ways with the old GM and coach. GM has yet to sign or trade any player on this roster. Seems a bit foolish to blame him for the follies of the previous regime.

Lol, the GM is BFF with the owner, he ain't getting fired for not trading Tarasenko for a 4th, which is what, a player with a 1% chance of making the NHL?
Sens tell Tarasenko NYR aren't offering enough, so either he waives for another contender offering more, or he can finish the year with this team. Who blinks first?

Sens don't need center prospects (Stützle, Norris, Greig, Pinto, Kastelic, Ostapchuk, Holliday, Jarventie), 4 already full time NHLers. Broz isn't going to sign here, when he can just stay for one more season and pick his destination.
I get sens may need to take back salary, but 50% retention on both and a full dump of Carter costs more than a 2nd.

Both Tarasenko and Kubalik with retention, dumping Jeff Carter, for a 2nd and an unsigned prospect?
Sens can do better
Edit: the prospect is a center, a deep position for the Sens, in his third NCAA year. Odds are he plays his final year and goes where he wants, as opposed to being buried in Belleville

Best defense TML need Only 1s worth giving up a 1st for
Zuuuuuub will cost more than a 1st. He's a top 4 Rd, defensive defenseman, still young, on a decent contract. It's a premium position that most teams, including the Sens, are trying to fill. So I don't see the Sens trading him for a mid/late 1st, to a division rival.

We need solutions NOW
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DevilsFan69</b></div><div>Goaltenders rarely bring in a huge package, looking at the past. A good comparison to this is the Jack Campbell trade. However, Markstrom brings in less due to his age. The retention is the Kyle Clifford of the trade, Nolan Foote is the Trevor Moore of it.</div></div>
Vanecek at 3.4M for 1.5 seasons is a cap dump, one that will cost at least a 2nd. Foote is leaning towards a bust. 23yo and can't crack the NHL. Little to no value. So basically, the 2nd and 3rd, in 2025, might not even cover the cost to dump Vanecek.
Markstrom, who plays good when the team in front of him isn't a dumpster fire, along with 1.5M of retention for multiple seasons, will cost SOMETHING.
Yeah, goalies don't generally bring in huge hauls, but the trade is a downright fleece. What is the incentive for Calgary? They take on bad cap, some almost worthless picks, a useless prospect, and give up a good goalie signed for multiple years. Can't really use a 2nd in 2025 as a core piece of a rebuild, not that they want to rebuild. They are better keeping Markstrom and retooling with him.

Not to mention EP will cost how much on his next contract? So Ottawa will have to ship out another core member to make cap room.
Ottawa already have plenty of skill. They have no issues scoring goals. They need more physical and defense first players

Sens fan here. Welcome to the mystery of Nick Paul. He'd be great for a couple of games, and invisible for like 20. Very streaky. It's frustrating too, cause he just needed to play a responsible physical game, not necessarily score goals. so in theory, it should be easier for him to be more consistent.
To the posters saying JBB is bad, his 2 cups and three SCF appearances in a row would disagree. All teams struggle eventually. Players leave, retire, get injured/surgeries/chronic pain. I do know that if he gets fired, he won't be out of a job for very long.

The fact you called him Zubby alone disqualifies you from proposing a trade. It's Zuuuuuuuuuub, not Zubby.
Like in the other ACGM you saw from that other Leaf fan that proposed pretty much the same trade, it's not enough. Zub is a great top 4 RD on a good contract for a few years. Sens have no RD depth. It will take more than a 1st, a mediocre prospect, and a bust to get him.

I don't think it's been that long. Dorion liked him and planned on keeping him. I think PD was trying to trade Joseph, then Brannstrom instead of Kubalik in the preseason, for room for Pinto.

Staios said yesterday that they'll be able to accommodate him and his cap hit, even if they don't make a trade. So they can afford him. Considering he's already at the facilities, getting ready to come back, doesn't seem like he's going to be playing hardball on contract negotiations.

It wasn't an exception. It was because of his RFA classification (10.2c). Deadline didn't apply to him with/without suspension.
Regarding salary, his cap hit will be whatever salary he signs for. See https://www.capfriendly.com/faq#increased-caphit (scroll to bottom of page). I doubt they will include a signing bonus, so basically whatever his base salary is. If it was a multi-year deal, sure, there would be some doubling (like there was with Nylander). But he's likely signing for the league minimum, for one year, with no SB. Note that he won't be paid the full base salary/cap hit, as he's missed half of the season already. So there's maybe the "doubling" some people are thinking of.

If Brannstrom at wing continues for the remainder of the season, I can see him and his agent requesting a trade.
Sure, he had a good game, but I'd imagine he prefers playing D, and is decent at it. If Ottawa isn't a fit for what he wants to do, I can see a trade request incoming.

I like it. Let's hope Leeder's stint as CEO of Mews and the ties to the family don't discourage them from drafting Henry.
I also wouldn't mind a double dip at RD in the first round, or in the first 3 picks, provided they aren't reaches. Good RD is just so hard to acquire and this draft seems to have a few good ones.
