Buffalos Future from Isles Fan Perspective
Olofsson should not be considered untouchable. He's been very bad at 5v5 and the one thing he's good at which is the PP, he hasn't done anything for a while. It also doesn't make sense for Reinhart to stay if Jack goes, I don't think Reinhart will want to be part of a rebuilding team for a few more years.

Isles would have to say yes to that.
Any word on if Hall is going to miss some games?

What I think happens with Buffalos pending UFAs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Riley816</b></div><div>Play Tokarski. See Scott Wedgewood and the guy in LA. Give career minor league goalies a chance. Can't be wors.
Islanders have one forward with fewer goals than Hall. They probably pass...</div></div>
Hall very likely plays better and produces more if he's on the Islanders.
Comparing Taylor Hall on the Sabres vs Taylor Hall on the Islanders isn't exactly a fair comparison.
Also, the Islanders have lost Anders Lee to LTIR and they are one of the teams that are rumoured to be in on Hall.
With that said, I took into account Hall's season with the Sabres as a low point in his career.
So, I basically looked at the Taylor Hall trade between the Devils and the Coyotes and thought it would be fair if what the Sabres only get for Hall is the two picks.
No prospects going to Buffalo, Buffalo retains at 50% like what Arizona did and there are no conditions that would upgrade either draft pick.
If you want to lottery protect on the 1st rounder just like with the last Taylor Hall trade or the JG Pageau trade, that's fine.
But it's probably moot because the Islanders will make the playoffs. :)

Hall not Palmieri - Please Read Description
Exactly, Hall by far makes the most sense. He’s still helping to drive play as well as he ever has, even on a crap Buffalo team and right now, he’s being centered by Eric Staal. The line of him, Eichel and Reinhart flirted with a xGF% of 70 before Eichel got hurt, and were actually outscoring their expect goal rate per hour by almost a third of a goal. Just imagine what he could do next to Barzal and Eberle.
Palmieri on the other hand is fine. I don’t know if I really believe he “fits the system” better than Hall would - I think they’d both find their place after some kind of adjustment period - but he’s not having a great year doesn’t drive play like Hall does, both in transition and in short attempt generation. I firmly believe right now is our best chance at a Cup, gotta strike while the iron is hot

If the Sabres have an old defensive defenseman with a low cap hit, someone like Greene or Kulikov, and if remove MDC, then this trade is good. Hall is not re signing with the Sabres, so his value is what other teams will offer. The most another team is going to offer is a 1st and maybe a second, the second is pushing it. So add a third going the Sabres way, remove MDC, and add a 7th or 6th defensive defenseman if they have one, and this trade is fine.

Hall to the isles is a perfect trade this season:
-UFA
-Lee out remainder of season
-LW1
Issue would really be the cost. Isles don't have much of a prospect pool, so they need picks especially first rounders. If isles could do something with the 1 or 2 of the avs picks and one of their defensive prospects (MVS or wotherspoon) it would be ideal. Unfortunately, I see other teams outbidding the isles.

Coming from a Sabres fan I think you are including to many pieces for Hall...Bellows and the first should do it. Islanders aren't hurting for cap space with Lee gone for the rest of the season so no need for the Sabres to retain salary thus less going back. Sabres need to rebuild with young players so no need for them to take Kormarov only bc he has a year of contract left after this season.

Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Isles777</b></div><div>Looking at the low first round picks dating back to 2015, the odds are decent at getting a top 6 F. Like I said, trading for the "star" rental rarely works out..Rick Nash, shattenkirk, hall (last year). Hall showed he couldn't adapt to a defense 1st system in Arizona, so what makes you think he would succeed on the isles?
Nick cousins and Ennis are pretty significant upgrades to Dal Colle and they both have the same number of goals as Taylor hall this season.</div></div>
I think that Islanders top-6 is better than Arizonas for start. Obviously it’s a gamble, you don’t buy Hall for what he’s produced this season, but his upside and potential that he can turn things around in a better environment, system, legit chance at winning, etc. Everything is’t about points, look at the underlying stats and compare Hall with Ennis/Cousins. Also don’t believe they would be ”significant” upgrades to Dal Colle.
I don’t imply that we necessarily have to go for the ”star player”, it’s just that I think Hall would check a lot of boxes for our team.

As a fellow Islander fan I think youre wrong here. 2021 1st doesnt have that much of a value as the ordinary 1st round picks. Bellows is struggling in our system and Trotz dont trust him. Komarov is someone we would love to get rid off. Hall for 4 million for a playoff run? Thats no gamble at all and Hall could be a fantastic player in our system. Why dont you think so? Im just curious.

As an islander fan I might do that this years draft is a crapshoot anyway we dump a bad contract bellows can’t crack the lineup and we have hall at a reasonable price and he can help us once he has competent coaching.

Didn't Aho have off ice issues? If they did he's back in the Islanders now. The other thing is his size Yzerman likes big defensemen. Those are the 2 things that might cause Yzerman to not make the trade. But I do like Aho and 1yr of Komarov at $3M isn't all that bad plus 2 picks I'm sold on this trade.
In a couple of seasons Detroit is going to look like Team Sweden for a 2nd time.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Apollo2195</b></div><div>Realistically the second rounder is the value (Similar to the Mark Stall/Detroit Trade) The only difference is Hickey has two years, but is a lot cheaper and arguably a more useful Dman than Stall at this point of their careers. Ho-Sang is the throw in, because, (A) I want to see him get a chance and I think LA would give him one and (B) he hold more value than a Low around pick because of the skills he does possess.</div></div>
Fair enough. I like NJD more as a trade partner for Hickey and Ho Sang. I think they'd fit great over there.

That would solve all of NYI's cap problems and they could afford to sign Barzal 10x8.
I think NJD would be a better trade partner for Hickey and Ho Sang. There's no a whole lot of room for them in the Kings lineup.

Zaitsev
Value wise, if you remove 1 of the 2nd round picks going to Ottawa and add a late pick (5th or 6th) it's pretty close.
The only issue becomes that Zaitsev's experience on defence becomes tough to replace. With the young guys they have back there it might be a tough move for them to make. But they did just acquire both of Gudbranson and Brown so a move could be made.
You could be on to something here though

We're one of the very few teams where it makes sense for us to get Zaitsev.
1) OTT can take our bad contracts in return
2) Lou has a positive history with him
3) Trotz can coach a guy like Zaitsev - someone who has talent but has performed poorly on bad teams

I'm very on board with bringing in Zaitsev for our bad contracts and a small sweetener. It makes a lot of sense.
Zaitsev and something for Ladd, Hickey, and Mayfield makes sense for both teams.
