If the Crawford Rumors are True
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JackBurton</b></div><div>No dice on Grubauer, he's a career backup at best and his small sample size does not translate to someone who's ready to start. Speaking without looking at stats or anything else, Grubauer kinda blows...
Do not trade Crawford. To hell with the Islanders and what they want. Besides, Crow has a NMC and has already reportedly torpedoed a Calgary trade, he'll definitely use his contract to torpedo another one.</div></div>
"Speaking without looking at stats or anything else, Grubauer kinda blows..."
You're an idiot. You reference sample size, yet acknowledge not looking at the stats. Go educate yourself then throw around blanket statements. He was the starter for the Caps over the last two months of the season, and often played the back-end of back to backs when he wasn't. Honestly, i'd love to lock him down medium term in DC and have him hold the fort until Samsonov is ready. Though I (and most Caps fans) find the trade off in this deal to be acceptable if a different path is chosen (sticking with Holts and trading Grubauer).

Lose-Lose situation with Carlson
DSP isn't getting 3 years at $2mm. Caps will offer 1 year at 1.5 or so, and let him walk if he wants more.
Eller isn't going anywhere. Literally just signed his extension. Would be bad for business to immediately turn and trade the guy once an extension is inked. Especially since Eller took term over AAV to stay.

What's the benefit for Washington to make that deal? It would only drop their 2018 cap hit $1mm and extend it for an extra year as you noted.....

LOLOL You would be lucky to get a 3rd for taking on Orpik. No way a 1 and a 2 alongside it. You'd be able to get something along those lines for taking on Lucic, but not a guy with only 1 year left on his deal.

Carlson isn't leaving WSH to go to Pittsburgh for 7 & 7. He'll stay in Washington for that price and certainly 15 other cities before Pittsburgh.

Letting Carlson walk, Signing a familiar replacement, Grubi trade
Overall, I like the ideas. A few tweaks.
Re-sign Kempny. 2 years, $1.5mm. Well worth it. Guy has been great on the back-end.
In turn, sending Johansen down to Hershey to get more seasoning and take on a top line role there to begin the season would be beneficial.
Cut a year or two off of Mike Green's term. 3 years $4mm sounds about right to me.
Think we can get more out of Carolina for Grubauer. Especially since it's within the division.

Aggressive Approach to Fixing the Habs
Based on a $78mm cap you would have 41% of your salary tied up in 3 players - Weber, Tavares and Price. FOR 7 YEARS. Other teams have done it, and we've seen it to turn out to be incredibly irresponsible.

Not bad ideas. But the Caps would demand more than a back-end first for Grubauer. Maybe throw in a Williams for Orpik swap and they'd bite.

Proper Game 4-6 Lines

Like I said - I wouldn’t be upset if it was a 1 game suspension. Completely agree the NHL should take those hits out of the game. But based on the rules (even the charging rules) 3 games is ridiculous, especially when compared to the other one game suspensions handed out.
Somehow the NHL forgot to take into account the extra 4 inches of height Willy has.

Redoing the Gaudreau trade I made last night
Love the idea of getting Johnny Hockey in DC. Having Backstrom, Kuznetsov and Gaudreau on 3 separate lines as shot creators would be amazing. I do think Holts for him is a good starting point with other pieces surrounding it.
Deducting a star because that is giving up way too much to dump Orpik. Attaching Siegenthaler should be enough for a team at the cap floor. But i'd throw in no more than a 4th (and probably ask for a 6th or 7th back.

Tavares stays, but there's an overhaul. (Divisional trades with CBJ and WSH)
Well done.
Honestly, the Caps will probably drive a hard bargain to keep Holtby in the division, but these are great bones to a deal. The Caps will probably want to clear a roster spot and have a lot of near ready NHL D in Hershey which could benefit the Isles. I could see them throwing in a Lewington/or Siegenthaler and asking for a future 2nd or 3rd (2019 or 2020) to round out the deal. Overall, well done.
