It’s a trade and sign with extension. Please learn how to read.

This trade makes zero sense for the Sens, they can just sign Mayfield in the offseason</div></div>
Ottawa can’t just attract and sign any UFA they want. Trade and sign is a good option for them to secure a top 4RD for next year. And yes, Cat is worth less at $9M vs $6.4M cap hit. That’s pretty basic economics.

Interesting
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KINGS67</b></div><div>Why are people trading Chabot?</div></div>
Mostly because they’re gonna be tight against the cap with pretty much the same roster… if they keep Cat. Something has to change to make playoffs and Chabot is an easy target at $8M AAV.

Keep Cat get Durzi
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>Lol ok so let me get this straight. One of the like 4-5 teams in the league that aren't right up against the cap ceiling next year are just going to casually help Ottawa out instead of charging premium because he's owed 2.5M? Bottom feeder teams are going to have no issue reaching the floor next year so explain to me what their incentive is for helping Ottawa. In the case of Anaheim assuming both Terry and Zegras get contracts around 8M that puts them at ~56M and 14 players under contract. The cap floor will be about 62M so with just filling the last 9 roster slots they can easily reach the floor</div></div>
2nd is plenty. Next

10-15OA. They need good players now, Not in 3-4 years.
Durzi's an RFA at end of current contract.

Talbot can easily get $2.5 on UFA market.
Maybe they do, maybe they don't. 10-15OA is a nice return, and they have a lot of RHD coming up.

Pinto is not signing 3.5 unless it's a longer deal.
It will not handcuff other RFAs. We have more cap relief once buyouts expire after 2023/24.

Also on a side note it will absolutely cost more to dump Zaitsev than a 2nd</div></div>
Zaitsev is only getting paid $2.5 next year after bonus. I won't cost more than a 2nd.

It's probably 10-15OA. Assuming it's traded after the lottery. We need to find a top4 RHD on a good value deal for next year.

I like this fit. Sens will need to find a good value RHD to fit the salary while also keeping room for some depth pieces.

We'll see.</div></div>
Mayfield seems to get offered this price range on other ACGMs.
Pinto I agree, he has probably earned more, but it will come down to term of the bridge deal.
I could see a Foligno return being possible as a Brassard-like veteran depth option.
Brown, I know, is a reach. It would be a nice fit if they got him on a deal considering he hasn't played this year.

Next Year Realistic
Debrincat is on pace for 65 point season. I get that he's better than those stats, but I don't see Sens wanting to make $9M commitment. I think he'll be shopped as early as the trade deadline for some solid players on good value contracts in return to help build up D and forward depth. Having $9M extra cap space opens a lot of opportunities.

That 2023 1st is a very high value commodity. Even top 5 protected. You won’t better that from any other team.
