If were out of contention
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Denault sure hasn't shown he's a top 6 centre this year. Where does he even fit into the Leafs lineup?
Tatar has been average this year. Can't see the Oilers giving up a possible top 20 pick for him.</div></div>
So centering the best line in the NHL this year in xG% is not worthy of being a top 6 center? That's funny. He plays good hockey, even more under Ducharme, it just doesn't appear on the score sheets.

You tell me. What's the market for a top 6 two-way center half-retained and a 0.80 ppg winger?

Indeed. I think it's unpreventable to trade those two guys if we're selling, and the quarantine makes Winnipeg a prime landing spot.

If it's a 1-for-1 trade without a sweetener on Calgary's side, Montreal likely wouldn't do this. Armia already fits in here, Bennett remains a question mark.

defense sell off coming
There are so many ways Arizona could get younger on the blue line without trading away their much needed 2nd round pick for an <strong>average</strong> defenseman on an albatross contract. Ryan Murray got traded this offseason for a 5th round pick, he's a UFA and a better option than Matheson. There's Brandon Montour too. Ain't anyone giving up a high pick for Matheson.

Next year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>this is really more dependent on his play.
His play so far is ok.
He had a bad year in 18-19.
since then it's been ok.
I think there is more value there if it stays that way.
Not saying a sweetener isn't needed, but it's not to the degree of which you think. After all, these are the same voices who thought it would take a 1st to move Gudbranson. It didn't.
Matheson has advantages going for him. He's young, he's been relatively healthy. He keeps his play up and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg.</div></div>
We're talking here. I'd say they protect Crosby-Malkin-Zucker-Rust-Guentzel-McCann-Kapanen Letang-Dumoulin-Pettersson. Swap McCann for Blueger/Tanev/ZAR if you want. There is no need to take on that Matheson contract whereas a lot of #4 dmen will be left unprotected, and a lot of useful forwards left unprotected on the Pens.

Some contracts aren't ideal, but regardless of how much they cost, they're still great dmen and no analytics charts will change my mind

A 4th liner is not a sweetener to take on that Matheson's contract. Not even close. Especially considering that they could just take ZAR if left unprotected.

Overall, he could make a case for that yes. I didn't say anything about Matthews? This is based on this season so far and it's safe to say that McDavid, Draisaitl and Scheifele have had better starts to the season.

Little bullish on Suzuki... Tofolli are you kidding me? No Morgan Reilly? Arguably the best LHD in the North. Tkatchuk Bros behind DROUIN???? Zaitsev is top 7? you've got to be joking. He'd be 42nd for RHD on my list. Jake Allen (not even a starting goalie) above Freddie AND Holtby? Wow. LOL This is obviously made by a habs fan. Trash list. TBH</div></div>
Made by a Habs fan, criticized by a angry, delusional leafs fan. Toffoli is the leader in G/GP in the division. Suzuki doesn't even need justification. Rielly has been IN-VI-SI-BLE this season, not the best LHD in the North at all. Jake Allen, well, has much better stats than Holtby & Andersen.

Fair points. Drouin is barely two years older and have 50 points potential, he already is in fact

Until then, he hasn’t proven he’s a 1C on a cup team. I know you’re a habs fan and have been desperate for a true 1C for decades, so you’re just gonna throw around the “1C” term very loosely. Just like how Galchenyuk, Pleck, Domi, etc... were all considered “1Cs” by habs fans in the past.</div></div>
Dude was a rookie lmao and spent a quarter of the year on the fourth line with Nate Thompson. Check out Larkin, Dubois, Kuznetsov and Scheifele rookie seasons and tell me its not similar

I agree, we don't need LHDs. However, Pettersson is not an upgrade right now over Chiarot (yes its proven stastically) & Romanov. He'd be a good add but would create traffic on LD with all the youth coming up
