As a Habs fan, to be fair, you don't want to trade Coyle for that package. Lindgren may or may not become a starter in this league, there's upside in him although a risk attached to it as well. DLR is a centre but he will be a defensive 3C at best, just doesn't have the kinda offensive talent. His goal upside? Maybe 10-15 goals.

This Was Tougher. Trades with CBJ/EDM/MTL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>arafay</b></div><div>The one thing you got wrong in your response was that Petan is not a 2nd line center. Start him with a big player (Armia) and a sniper and you will be impressed. Petan is also a great passer (God on half-wall on pp)
Perreault doesn't play center because the jets have Schiefele, Stastny, Little, and Lowry. He is not a better center than the first three and Lowry is our checking center which is a role perreault doesn't fit. Perreault would produce more than little at center but little is a great 2 -way player. The jets have used him on 4 on 4 as a center and he is great, he creates chances and is responsible on defense.
Perreault would be a great 2C on most teams, especially MTL. You wont need a top center because you will have Zadina.
If Not then?
Who should I send Petan to instead. he has 2nd line center upside
How about Armia . You hit the nail in the head for his role
And Perreault? Solid 2C
I made this trade because I thought it benefitted MTL</div></div>
If Petan is a 2C, then Charles Hudon is too. Very similar players in my eyes, both are good playmakers, skilled with the puck, hard-working and good on PP, Hudon has just been able to produce more at the NHL level. If Hudon can't cut it in the Habs' top 6 as a centre, then the chances are Petan can't either.
As for Perreault, if he's truly a 2C, then why did the feel the need to acquire Stastny at the TDL and not just slot Perreault in there. Instead they are using Perreault in the lower lines as a winger, where he is good but it's really hard to sell him as a 2C when he's not even close to be considered as one in his current team.
I like what Armia brings, but we have enough 3rd line PKing wingers. Don't need another one. This is not a knock on any of the players proposed, they are just not quite what we need. We want established top 6 C's, not wild cards like Perreault and Petan.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>arafay</b></div><div>Are you really saying that the habs do not need 2 2nd line centers and a puck possession god. It's not really a steep price to pay. A second for 2 young players and most likely a second and third for Perreault who isn't old either.
Wasn't center your biggest area of need. I answered that need. I will change that trade to Carolina instead or break it up.
Which players do you want? Perreault for same conditional pick. Armia for 3rd. Petan for 3rd. Or both for 2nd</div></div>
Which of those three are 2nd line centres because they all have played in bottom six roles recently lol. Perreault has a history as an NHL level centre but it's hard to sell him as one as he hasn't played the position in quite a while. Armia is a 3rd line winger who's a great PKer and that's about it. We already have a better Petan in Hudon. The price you're offering those three for isn't steep but the need really isn't there. So yeah, call Carolina instead. Thanks but no thanks.

Zero interest from Montreal. Neither Iafallo nor Forbort fill any kind of need for us. If you don't want to give up Vilardi for Patches (which is understandable), it starts with Amadio and a 1st.

Toews?
It's an Eklund rumor so take it with a grain of salt and then some. Toews has a full NMC, he's the face of the franchise for the Hawks and he's well overpaid so it's VERY unlikely he'll ever be traded. And if somehow the Hawks can and want to shop him, the 3rd overall pick is an immediate non-starter as a return. So the proposed deal is a no on pretty much all levels imaginable.

I like Kotkaniemi a lot more than Veleno as an offensive centre which we desperately need. A lot of great offensive LHDs in this draft too, Ty Smith should be available. Doubt Bouchard or Hughes drops to #10 but if one of them does I would easily take that over Veleno too.

Lol no. I can get behind Galchenyuk for RNH as a base but the 3rd overall pick will certainly not be in the play in that deal.
Also why would Philly spend a 3rd round pick for a dime a dozen backup goalie they already have a bunch of?
(Also if I'm picking 10th I am not even considering to draft Veleno but that's a bit off topic)

CAROLINA FANS
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>The_Architect</b></div><div>5 yrs isn't a couple, between Petry and Faulk... On Bean, certain reports that I've read, claim that his natural talent is superior than the current Canes D-men. Gaulthier has taken a step back this year, but I'm willing to overlook that. And Mckewon again according to reports is NHL ready, but they're just loaded on D. But I'd swap Mckewan for Rask, like CanesQ proposed in his comment above.</div></div>
Faulk has more value than Petry but I'm not quite sure why we'd do that, I'm perfectly fine with Petry for the remainder of his contract and we have a couple of good RHD prospects in the pipeline for the future. Bean has outstanding offensive talent but he still has a lot of work to do before being NHL ready. He's a project who might or might not pan out. McKeown might be NHL ready but he would be in exactly the same situation in Montreal as he is right now in Carolina, there's just no room for him on the right side. I would also rather take Rask than McKeown but still, I would absolutely not move the 3OA pick in this deal.

There's this thing called salary cap dude. Also, like pointed out, Weber and Doughty are both righties so highly unlikely they would play in the same pairing.

No, no, NNNNNO. Faulk isn't much of an upgrade over Petry, I'd actually argue Petry is better than Faulk right now although Faulk is a couple of years younger. I'm not very sold on Bean, McKeown is a meh prospect and Gauthier, while I would be interested in him, doesn't have the kinda upside that would make us give up that highly valuable 3rd overall pick.

Zadina + Thornton + Murray + Wennberg
Thornton is apparently re-signing with SJ. I think our best bet for a top 6 C in the offseason is Stastny.
Pacioretty and Hudon should garner some quality return for sure but CBJ is in the same situation as us, they need centres too so I believe they have little interest in moving a young one signed long term in Wennberg.

Habs say hell no. Not much interest in any of the pieces offered (except for Pavelski but not willing to spend assets to get a declining version of him). If you want Galchenyuk, I'd be interested in a package of Norris+1st. Mete is not for sale.

I wouldn't touch anywhere near Nelson if the cost was Petry. Sure, in your plan we're acquiring Carlson (to a vast overpayment that we're going to regret) which makes Petry expendable but I wouldn't give up more than a low 2nd rounder for Nelson and I also wouldn't sign him to any more than $3M AAV.

Not sure why we'd even extend Niemi, Lindgren should be absolutely capable of handling the backup job going forward. And if Niemi doesn't say yes to less than that, he's out of the league. Hell, he should be happy to even get an offer from some team. Despite posting solid numbers in Montreal, he's incredibly shaky. It's no coincidence he kept getting waived early on this year.
