Poulin and Broberg are not comparable, Broberg is a far better skater with a considerably higher ceiling.

What a send off
As much as I think there's a possibility that EDM decides to move on from Kane, I don't think there's any chance that they'd pay to do so. He's still a physical 20-goal scorer that did most of his damage at even strength. Just because a good team moves on from a player doesn't mean the trade is a cap dump.

Edmonton is going to turn into the new Tampa Bay on here with the we'll take this guy off your hands because you can't afford to extend him posts. Drai is a top5 player on this planet, if he wants to extend then Edmonton will find the cap space to extend him.

Time to Make It Happen
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jacketsman61</b></div><div>The math doesn’t work out. Edm while talented has not been able to win in the playoffs. The depth is not there. Teams that win cups have depth. Edm doesn’t have it. And you think McDavid is only getting a 2 mil raise?? Get real. This guy knows his value and teams will be lining up to sign him. Same thing for Draisaitl. The Canadian dollar is a huge issue here. He is likely signing his last big contract. He will want to make his money considering he signed at a steal for Edm on this last contract.</div></div>
First, I used your numbers - you were the one that suggested a $2.5M raise for both McDavid and Draisaitl. Here: <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jacketsman61</b></div><div>... pay Draisaitl around 11+ mil and give a hefty increase to McDavid, who on the open market, could garner at least 15 to 16 mil per? </div></div>
Second, all NHL contracts are paid in US dollars, so the Canadian dollar is not any issue whatsoever.
Third, Draisaitl didn't sign "at a steal", he got paid MORE than his closest comp (Pastrnak) at the time. It only appears to be a steal because he developed into the second best player in the world after he signed that deal.
Fourth, McDavid took less money on his last contract as a favor to the team. I fully expect him to take less than he would get on the open market again.
Fifth, the Oilers have won in the playoffs, they went to the division finals last year and the Conference finals the year before, both times losing only to the eventual Stanley Cup champions. The Knights openly said last year that the Oilers were their toughest opponent. And they only beat them by illegally axe chopping Draisaitl's arm.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jacketsman61</b></div><div>There is no money in Edm. That is clear. McDavid comes up for contract the summer after that. Do you really think Edm can pay Draisaitl around 11+ mil and give a hefty increase to McDavid, who on the open market, could garner at least 15 to 16 mil per? Not going to happen. RNH has a NMC so they can’t move him either. They are already lacking on defense and goaltending. They can’t justify spending more to retain Draisaitl while ignoring the real problems or otherwise McDavid will walk.</div></div>
Draisaitl at $11M is only a $2.5M raise - pretty easy to find that kind of money. Likewise McDavid at $15M: it's only a $2.5M raise. So you're saying they won't be able to afford an additional $5M cap hits over the next 2 years? Clearly <strong>you</strong> haven't done the math.
And while defense and goaltending aren't perfect they aren't lacking. Since the coaching change Novermber 12th the Oilers have allowed the 5th fewest shots against and the 5th fewest goals against in the league. Their defense and goaltending are massively underrated.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jacketsman61</b></div><div>Edm fans need to comprehend that they will not be able to keep Draisaitl long term. The math is not there. McDavid is up for contract in two years and they can’t even re-sign him until after the sign Draisaitl. By going into next season with Draisaitl you run the risk of losing him for nothing and his trade value goes down. Edm is almost in the 75% range of trade him and we haven’t even seen the playoffs yet. That trade for him is insane value. McDavid could be set up with a deep team for years from this deal. I am sorry but Edm absolutely does not turn that down…</div></div>

This is all BS. Edmonton has the cap space to re-sign both, considering Draisaitl's new contract won't kick in until the 25-26 season and McDavid's until the 26-27 season.
They have money coming off the books every summer and the cap appears to be rising every year. And if that's not enough, they would trade any other player to make room for Draisaitl and McDavid before trading either Draisaitl or McDavid.
The ONLY scenario either gets traded is if he doesn't want to sign in Edmonton. Then he'll be traded with 1 year left on his deal to a team he's willing to sign with.

Draisaitl won't ever become a UFA though. In the unlikely event he informs the Oilers this summer that he won't sign in Edmonton, he'll get traded to a team he's willing to sign with.

Jarry COL Idea
I've seen the trade enough times that I feel the need to ask: what is the logic behind the Eller to EDM trade? They have more than enough Cs and are too tight to the cap to really commit another 2.4mil to a guy that ends up playing 4C for them.

PSA to all NHL fanbases
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JamieG613</b></div><div>Those are the prices we don't care if you don't like them</div></div>
Buddy, 9/10 of those ACGMs are coming from your own backyard, we're not the ones trading for them.
Robertson is massively injury prone and has yet to cement himself a roster spot, no one's giving up a first for an undersized winger who can't take a hit without ending up on IR.
Timmins is waiver bait, also injury prone as hell, there's a reason he was acquired for a 4th line player, in the AHL, he's also damaged goods, no one's giving up a 2nd and a 3rd for him.
Kampf is on a terrible contract, many teams would pass on him if he hit waivers.
Liljigren will be traded because he's not the kind of defenseman that Treliving likes, and for less than that.
And Marner, you can want that, you won't get that, because he has a full NMC, he gets to decide where he goes, if anywhere, before FA, he might only give you one team to negotiate with, and look what happens when the player says "I'll only go there" you get Kane and Tarasenko returns, well below expected. You only drive prices up with a bidding war, and NMCs prevent that. You can't even threaten to waive him to force his hand like Tampa did. If Marner leaves Toronto, he leaves for nothing as a UFA that they can't afford to resign.

What kind of drugs do you have to be on to willingly trade away McLeod for the purpose of paying a higher cap hit for a lesser player?
Alternatively, you can just end the sentence at McLeod and the question still stands.

PSA TO TORONTO:
- No one's paying a star dman like Hughes or Dobson AND a 1st for Marner
- No one's paying a 2nd/3rd for a dman that's yet to play a 30 game season with Toronto
- No one's paying a 1ST for Robertson (Toronto should keep him anyways he'll break out)
