If you changed Behrens to someone like Beaucage the Avs will consider this deal.

The Avs should steer clear of high AAV dumps like Wheeler and Hall. Too expensive for our own cap-strapped team.

It would ruffle the feathers of the Boys’ Club.

The problem is that he disappeared in the playoffs and the Avs can’t afford overpayments and bad contracts as a cup contending team.

That trade is just awful for the Avs and Philly. Girard isn’t what they need as a rebuilding team tearing it down, they need futures. Secondly, the Avs need help down the middle and resigning J.T. is a recipe for disaster, very dumb.

This is before July 1st, 2024 and my scenario is where Toews doesn’t resign an extension. I based it off the Severson trade but he could fetch more.

Projecting 2023-24
The thought process behind 1 and 2 is fine in my opinion but 3 is highly flawed because Donskoi missed the entire season. There’s just too much risk for him to be 3RW on a team riddled with injuries last year. I hate the idea of Dermy being a 13th or 14th forward. He is absolutely terrible, even on the back end, and would only play 3 or 4 minutes a night, adding to the burden the top lines already have carrying us. Lucic, Kassian, and other enforcers are terrible too, we are way better off resigning Cogs.

So many of these are unnecessary moves. We don’t need to trade for Laffy Taffy (just keep the assets) and we have a cheap backup already so why swap him with a more expensive one?

OPINION - What I would like to see for the Caps
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Logicalicesports</b></div><div>My viewpoint on that is lapierre pays for the addition of Newhook and the part that would be retained. IMO Newhook looked to be regressing last season and did not seem to develop as the Avs would have hoped</div></div>
The problem I have with moving Newhook is that he still has a lot of potential and is in his early 20s, while Kuzy is in his early 30s and regressed statistically. It’s true that he did not develop like the Avs would hope (they wanted him to be 2C but we didn’t have the depth to help him much there) but the top brass plus Jared Bednar are still very high on him and liked what they saw when they played him down the middle.

That’s okay for the Avs, moving down 12 spots is acceptable for another second plus Olofsson, but we’d prefer 2 seconds in ‘23.

Now that I’m reading my original comment, I can see what your saying. It was poor wording on my part since it’s true that there is no official word on the Avs preferences of firsts and that was my own personal bias towards it. However most Avs fans on CF would agree that we’d rather keep our ‘23 first in this supposedly strong draft class and then ship off our first in ‘24 in a supposedly weak draft class.

I can and I can’t see the Avs doing this. First of all, the Avs are keeping their ‘23 first and would rather move the ‘24 first. Secondly, Lindholm would have to be extended since Girard has a lot of term at a reasonable cap hit.

I agree and that’s why it’s a gamble. We’re only moving down 7 spots in this trade and it’s way better than the Sharangovich trades floating around where we trade down essentially an entire round.

I think your trade values are off. The first trade is wildly off, you aren’t getting Hayes at nearly 50% retained for 3 years at the cost of a fourth. In the second trade you should be getting and second and maybe a later round pick with Sharangovich. Finally, the last trade is completely unnecessary since we can resign EJ at around 1 million. Also we shouldn’t get an extremely injury-prone player in Patches for our injury-prone team, we should just roll with Drouin instead.
