Fair enough. There's a few teams with some room for that. This was not a contract that I thought would sour this quickly if I'm honest.

Not when you're paying a guy that much. I totally get the frustration. From an outside perspective, you either have to have hope for the next three seasons or you need to buy him out and eat the salary. I don't think any team in the league is trading for that contract.

Oh don't get me wrong, 12 million should ABSOLUTELY get you clutch, and he wasn't that at all. I don't disagree with your fear either. I just don't see how y'all can move that contract. I think you take the 92 point season for what it is and hope that he can deliver next year. And yes, hope is not the word you want with a 12 million dollar dude.

Yeah, you're not unloading that contract to anyone and he had a hell of a season last year. Just crapped the bed come playoff time. Gotta hope he comes back stronger.

Round out
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HockeyManiac95</b></div><div>OK but here's what we do know about him: he's been producing well the last couple of years, is a proven depth center, and will be a cheap, veteran 4C to get that you don't have to spend capital on. It's unfair to rate him on his performance with us for just 20 games back in 2019 when the team was much different. He isn't great at pk so you just don't use him in that role if you don't want to. You have plenty of other guys to do pk. And you're not asking him to be anything special in faceoffs, you just need some who can dig in and win a couple times or at least hold the other center a bit to let the wingers join the fight, and Brassard will do that just fine. We've already seen a little bit of Myers and he is not any of these things. You might be able to make a case for Foudy but even so wouldn't you want a little insurance that will actually increase your center depth?</div></div>
Remember, y'all: When we last rode the Brassard-Express, we wanted him to be a 3rd line dude. He VASTLY underperformed in that role, but was having a bad year to begin with. At 4C, I'll take anyone who doesn't turn the puck over, knows how to forecheck, and skates. I honestly don't care who that is at this point. But they need to fill those requirements.

I think we should give Myers at least 6 games, still sign Brassard in the meantime, and if Myers doesn't work out, u got ur answer. Then you send him back to Loveland</div></div>
I mean honestly at this point Myers needs to show it in camp and during the pre-season. If he doesn't, I don't think we need to give him all that much patience. He's already had the better part of a season to get used to the game. All that to say, I do hope we get one more center on a PTO to put the pressure there.

Ok I'm actually genuinely curious as to what you intended the return for Hubby to be. BTW Avs don't do that. Vatrano will get us maybe 5 points more than Wood on our 3rd line and we're not doing the pick swap nonsense

Is This Better Than The Current Leafs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>UpsideDownQue</b></div><div>I dont know about that. In Colorado he was the best player on the team for multiple years. In Ottawa he disappointed a bit in his first season when he was traded mid season and had to learn new systems, but the following year scored 58P in 50GP. Then struggled on CBJ in the reg season as a rental but performed with 10P in 10GP in the playoffs. In NSH he's had up and down years but recently has been very good. I know theres bad blood with him and the Avs but im trying to be objective and im not really following how his history suggests he would crumble under the pressure in Toronto</div></div>
The bad blood thing is a little over-played, he just struggled emotionally when pressure got high. And I honestly think he knows it. I'm honestly really happy for him that he carved out such a great career for himself in Nashville. I just don't think he's a 2C on the leafs.

I say this not as an attack, but just matter-of-fact. Duchene could not handle being the face of the franchise in Denver. He struggled mightily in Ottawa with high expectations. He only thrived when he got to Nashville. I truly think that playing in Toronto would wreck that man. I doubt you would get more than 40 points out of him and he would likely miss time.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>UpsideDownQue</b></div><div>Why sell at the deadline at all? Improving cup odds during their window >>>>>>>>> mid round picks</div></div>
Yup, this is totally reasonable as well. You want depth going into the playoffs and he certainly provides it. And we def suck at drafting. My brain is just trying to figure out how to keep our window going for longer and I can't get around wanting to get some future assets now so we don't have to tank down the road.

Yeah, I was feeling a 2nd as well but wanted to just get a feel for this idea in general. I'd be fine flipping him for some defensive depth. I just feel like when Kovalenko gets here he becomes unnecessary.

We should be trading Girard for futures, not active players. We can't trade his 5 million away just to get the same cap back. That defeats the purpose of trading him.

Saying Girard is a cap-dump is the same as saying Nylander is a cap-dump. Do we both need to unload the salaries? Yes. But are they players that are just going to be given away for nothing? No.

Yeah, Girard needs to go to a contender if this is going to work. That's the awkward thing about our need to trade a defenseman: the teams that make the most sense will also be contending. It's why I think the Avs will likely do some buying and selling in February this year.

Both of these trades hurt the Avs big-time defensively. Turns us into a one-dimensional team.
