PLD for Dach and a REALLY LATE 1st could work… that would be an interesting discussion. But to call anything in this site a troll, is quite obvious.

It is possible that PLD never learns how to compete night in, night out. But somebody is going to pay him 7+M to see if he can.
Dach improved a TON this past year, great growth. Does he have a higher ceiling than PLD, only if you assume PLD won’t play the way he already has for short stretches.
Both players aren’t 90+ Pt C, they are two-way, 60-80pt 1B types. PLD at his floor is a 65+ pt 2C, Dach needs to continue to improve to get there. Will he, probably, but not a guaranteed outcome. He’ll be more expensive than PLD if he reaches his potential, because he’ll sign a 7 year deal with a 90M+ cap, so 8-10 million won’t be unreasonable in 2-3 years time.

The ability to stick handle alone on the ice is entertaining, but completely irrelevant in the playoffs.
90% of NHLers under 25 have great hands alone on the ice. How many pair it with size, strength, and decision making.

Without other important factors such as IQ and physical, hands are basically useless other than in a shootout or 1 v 1 opportunity. Look at Drouin. He has amazing hands but I'm sure you would be mad if WPG signed Drouin to a 5-year 5 million dollar deal because he got good hands. Not saying PLD only has hands, but if that is your selling argument for PLD and Dach trade, I'll pass. As for the domination part, no, he isn't a dominant player. He lacks drive. He is smart, but if he gave his 100% he would be better and the fact that he doesn't is concerning. I much rather bet on Dach reaching his 75+ point potential and keeping him than trading for a 70-point guy. Worst comes to Worst, Dach has no more growth and he is a decent 50 point 2C</div></div>
I’m guessing you’ve never actually watched PLD play. I’ll forgive you for that. He has very high hockey IQ, his passing ability both backhand and forehand is very good. He has the ability to bulldoze his way through the offensive zone with control of the puck.
In short, he is NOT Drouin.

On track… maybe…. And I do think PLD has a higher ceiling if he ever figures out his compete issues.
If you think a player has the potential to become what another player already is, that implies risk he won’t. Therefore, to compensate for that risk, you would need to add additional assets as compensation.

Pionk is a great second pair D and can run the PP. a perfect compliment to Chariot as well. He’s physical, good passer, and has played hurt most of the past 16 months. Dismiss him all you want, but to acquire a 2nd pair D with term, the going rate is two seconds plus. I actually think he’d be a really good fit for the Wings. Don’t want to see him go, but tossed out that trade to see all the ‘not going to happen’ comments.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caufield</b></div><div>PLD is plateauing at around 65 points. Dach just got breakout year number 1, being only 22 years old. He still has 3 big years of growth and he was on a 53-point pace this year. His game is overall more enticing than PLD with the size and physical, but especially the compete level that Dubois lacks. This is reasons not to trade Dach for PLD 1 for 1, and ignoring the fact that PLD said he isn't playing another game in a Jets jersey decreases his value a lot. Adding a 1st and Roy is just ridiculous.</div></div>
That late first has a less than 50% chance of becoming a top 9 NHL player in 4 years, so I wouldn’t put much value in that. As for Roy, solid, potential middle 6 player. PLD vs Dach… PLD has better hands and has already shown he can dominate the best players in the game. He lacks consistency. Dach has the potential to play a strong power forward C role, and has consistency at a fair bit lower level of play this far. It’s a classic risky trade for both teams, that’s why Habs fans hate it so much. And I find their quick dismissals funny.

I agree that the Habs won’t trade for PLD, but PLD is also unlikely to ever wear that jersey. Dach is good, lots of potential, but he still needs to develop to reach his potential.

Opening Night against Anaheim
Who has the #1 waiver priority to start the year? I’m not sure Mark would be happy to go there to start the season.
To put Scheifele in the minors, he needs to clear waivers. No chance that would happen, 32 teams would put in claims (given Montreal’s history, and lack of C depth, good ole Marc would try to get to the front of that line)

Good team
I see three issues with this:
1) I’m not clear on why Casey would sign for 5 years at that price point. I doubt he goes longer than 2 years. To lock in your prime at just over $2M, when he could still develop into a solid middle 6 winger and make 3-5 per year a couple years from now doesn’t make sense.
2) Buf would match that deal. Between cap space and the fact it’s a reasonable dollar figure on a long term deal.
3) how do the Jets handle injuries with 600k in cap space and only 20 roster players. Jets simply can’t afford more than 900k on any deal and still roster 22 players unless they ship out a contract valued over 3M.

Interesting, though I can’t see the Jets going with a 21 player roster.
I also like what Gus brings vs Jones in the medium and longer term, so I wouldn’t make that trade myself. Niku is irrelevant from a value perspective.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>IconicHawk</b></div><div>Perfetti on the second line is a bit of a stretch to start I’d say 4th line to start then he can constantly go up the ranks</div></div>
Putting Prefetti in the 4th line would be a disaster. He’s a skilled player who will likely struggle playing with 4th line checkers. From a development perspective, he needs to play in the middle 6 to start, with players who complement his skill set.
I am 99.9% sure he starts the season in the AHL and plays on the top line and top PP unit. He needs to play against men to develop. 8 minutes a night on a checking line would hurt his development.
He might have gained 15 lbs if functional muscle and improved over the summer...will be great if that happened. If it does... then slotting into the middle six would be possible. But even he admitted that he needed to gain strength at the end of last year, and that is a process.
People forget that at this point in their development arc, Scheifele, Ehlers and Conner were all playing outside the NHL their second year post draft!
Same goes for almost every other non-top 5 draft pick.

Eichel to WPG
The deal itself isn’t horrible from a value perspective...but why???
I don’t see how this deal improves the Jets in 21-22 or in the future. Mortgaging the roster players plus a pair of 1sts for a 2C who has a VERY complicated injury just doesn’t make sense to me. If he was 100% healthy, he would slot in as a 1C and give the Jets one of the 2-3 best Center duos in the league, but the risk that he never fully recovers is real, and to mortgage the future for that is a giant risk.
Better to bet on a Dubois bounce back (who still has 1C upside and is young) than bet the farm on a giant injury risk.

The way I think this lineup could be maximized
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bunzy1034</b></div><div>Personally I like DeMelo he’s very efficient and underrated by a portion of the fan base in my opinion</div></div>
For 21-22, Demelo is a much better dman than either Stanley or Heinola. I’ve yet to see any evidence that for this upcoming year, the Jets would win more games with either of those young D playing vs Demelo.
I do expect that both have improved over the summer, so the gap last May should close, but Demelo was MUCH better than either at the end of the first round. Demelo countered two of the top players in the world reasonably well...Stanley played decently against players who were waived/released this offseason.
Development wise, Heinola will get a lot more playing his age 20 season with the Moose as the #1 D, #1PP than he will playing on the 3rd pair/press box for the Jets. Stanley has shown for one season he can be a good 3rd pair sheltered D, he’s also not waiver exempt, so he will be on the opening roster. Better to develop Heinola properly and use Stanley in a role he can succeed in, and re-evaluate for 22-23.

Capped out- no space for ESvechnikov
Jets can add as many minimum deals as they want. Issue is that without other roster moves involving players making 2M+, they will have to move a minimum contract player to the Moose (who will need to pass through waivers) for each contract they bring in.
Niku doesn’t impact the cap, as he can be placed on the Moose (after clearing waivers).
Beaulieu would also need to clear waivers, which is a risk, but the reward if he is sent to the Moose is the Jets only have a 125k cap hit if he clears, or get the full contract off the books if he’s claimed.
Cash is the other consideration. If the new player signs a one way deal, putting them on the Moose costs the 750k. A two-way deal would make more sense (which is what Toninato has for 21-22).
If the Jets bring in another min vet on a 1-way, I think Toninato is a real risk of starting the season on the Moose. He’d need to significantly outplay the other 4th line options.

a bit hasty
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Los Angeles declines. Vilardi is developing nicely, Heinola isn't.</div></div>
I respectfully disagree. Heinola is developing nicely, given the unique circumstances the past 18 months. He needs to gain strength and experience at the pro (non-NHL) level.
The trade isn’t one sided, though Heinola is younger and has a higher ceiling at this point. Vilardi is a middle six C prospect, though not a goal scorer or a dynamic player. He caps out as the second best player on the second line, a very solid, consistent Center man for a dynamic winger.
The Jets are in need of wing depth up front, so I don’t see the fit, and at this point, the Jets would be targeting a top 40 prospect for Heinola, not somebody in the 60-100 range.

Not sure that was a realistic option. Gio makes too much; Larsson and Jaime just signed multiyear deals, so that rules out the top 3 options.
Dunn is getting paid a fair bit for a 4/5 dman with potential coming off a down season.
Who else would actually improve the Jets d-core from Seattle?
