That's awful. 2019 3rd overall pick, 2016 10th overall pick, top 4 D and solid 3rd line/PK for...what exactly?

Taylor Hall
I like Hall but he's injury prone. I'd rather try our luck in FA than give up those players and a 1st rounder (especially Zadorov). And Landeskog, Makar, Timmins, Grub all need extensions the following year.
One of our young forwards should be able to fill in for Nieto - no need to pay him 3 mil.

He will be a bottom pairing Dman if he stays on this team for a couple more years and if he wants 4M+, there is no chance they pay him that to fill that role. If somehow the point production gets a boost, which is definitely possible then maybe he becomes worth it, but then I think Seattle takes him. I hope EJ sacks up and waives his NMC for expansion draft. A fan can dream.

Did you watch playoff hockey? Maybe those guys don’t put up many points but they won playoff hockey games. Check the Avs record when Zadorov was injured. He’s highly underrated. Wish they would have signed him longer term.

They're the same age and Kerfoot has put up 10 more points per year since they started playing together?
Are you still basing your opinion on the fact the Compher was drafted higher than Kerfoot 6 years ago?</div></div>
I'm basing it off the fact that I watch a ton of Avs hockey. Look at their playoff production. Compher can grind, play all situations, and put up points on any line. They tried Kerfoot on the first line in the playoffs when Rantanen was out and he couldn't produce. Avs kept the right player.

Good signing. Compher has a higher ceiling than Kerfoot. Also a more versatile player who can kill penalties. They kept the right guy.

I like keeping the top line together. Also hope Jost can center a line with some puck possessing forward, since he can’t seem to hold on to the puck yet. Swap Greer and Calvert, otherwise good.

He was our seventh D, good fill in when Cole was out. I even thought he'd take Cole's playoff spot, but once Cole was healthy he proved to be the better player. Cole may not be ready to play until December and Johnson Oct/Nov. So he should be useful even if Byram and Timmins are ready to open the season.

(TOR/COL) - Kadri, Rosén 2020 3rd for Kerfoot, Barrie 2020 6th
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>WellIDK</b></div><div>Colorado could have made a push to be real Stanley Cup contenders, instead they make some depth signings and this terrible trade.
Barrie was on his way out but that 50% retaining. LOL. And then they also trade Kerfoot. They sign Donskoi because he drives possession, then trade Kerfoot who was one of the three forwards besides the top line who did the same. Doesn't make any sense unless Kerfoot asked way too much money.
Kadri as 2C makes sense though. In his prime, can score, teamfriendly contract and he can play 3rd line when Newhook is ready in a couple of years to play 2C. He is obviously an upgrade for the Avs. But I rather traded Compher or even Jost. Just look at the centerdepth in the system: Newhook (after next season), Kaut, Bowers, Kamenev. Why wait until Jost takes his next step as a centre when Newhook is probably playing top 9 after this season and Kadri plays 2C until Newhook is ready to play 2nd line.
Just another Avs deal that doesn't make sense if you want to make a push now</div></div>
I think Leafs fans are going to be severely disappointed with Kerfoot.

It'd be great to re-sign Barrie and get rid of EJ contract. Also, I hope Mikko signs a bridge or longer term deal, not the 5 year Matthews style contract.

I tend to think he’s hit his ceiling and won’t be needed in 2+ years. He’s had the biggest chance with better players on his line and I could see Compher/Jost taking bigger steps this year. I agree with the two year bridge for guys like Compher and Zadorov.

Rantanen could get $10M
Kerfoot about $4.5M for say 4 years

That leaves $21M and they still need to sign 7 guys.
I suppose Sakic COULD go fishing in the big pond, couldn't he. It will be interesting to see if he makes a big splash next week.</div></div>
Compher contract is about right. Kerfoot will be around the same as Compher. Zadorov will definitely be returning.

I don't think this is terrible. Barrie sounds like he's getting traded by the deadline anyways. We need a second line. Kerfoot has hit his ceiling, IMO. And instead of Turcotte/Bowen/Dach we take Cozens/Boldy/Caufield/Krebs. No one knows for sure whether the 4th pick is significantly better than the 10th pick - 2015 draft is a great example.
