(OTT/FLA) - Tarasenko for 2024 4th (FLA), 2025 3rd (FLA)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NorthernLeafsFan05</b></div><div>This is laughably bad for the Senators, they couldn't even pry a decent prospect out of Florida. I get that the trade protection on Tarasenkos deal allowed him to dictate where he went, but that doesn't change the fact that this trade is horrible. For crying out loud, Anthony Mantha cost the Knights more than this.
This is highway robbery for the Panthers who add another lethal offensive weapon to their already loaded forward group. At only 2.5m, he is going to be extremely valuable. If they want to buy more, they easily could (granted they don't have the money). This was a masterclass of a trade from Zito and a complete blunder by Staios</div></div>
You can lock the thread, this is all that needs to be said.

Considering how many posts there were saying Tarrasenko was gonna get Ottawa a first, easy win for the Panthers.

Rangers should just buy out Goodrow over paying to trade him. His cap hit is negligible for 5 of the 6 years they'd have to pay him, one year including a negative cap hit.

Buyout isnt the worst option. 3.8 next year, 2 the following.

Should see some of the offers they make to the Rangers on here for Zegras, that fan base is gonna be higly disappointed by the return if he gets traded.

If Kuznetsov had any trade value, they would have traded him already instead of trying to bury him in the AHL.

Gotcha, either way it would be something to consider, but I agree trading for him would be a mistake, even with max retention.

I think the whole point people are trying to make is the Rangers won't give up draft picks to move Chytil. You want him, offer a trade that doesn't force us to give up picks for you to take his contract.
Same thing for Goodrow, if the Rangers wanted to dump him and give up a second to someone just to get him off the roster they would have done it already. It makes much more sense for the Rangers to buy him outHe would have a negative cap hit in the first year and only have one year in the following five that would cost them more than a 1.1 mil cap hit.
As far as Perreault, Drury has already said hes not being moved.

Nobody is gonna claim that albatross of a contract. Maybe a team that desperately needs a 3rd/4th line center will trade for him at 50% retained but most likely scenario is Kuzy finishes the season in Hershey and gets bought out or traded in the offseason.

Maybe if his contract was terminated and we picked him up for 800k, but not like this.</div></div>
This idea I like, let them buy him out in the offseason, make something like an incentive based offer near league minimum and see what happens, if he plays well thats great but if he struggles, doesn't hurt to send him to Hartford.

It is better for Washington's cap to trade him than bury him in the AHL, he's still under contract next season and the Rangers don't have the greatest cap situation in the world. If the Rangers bought out or traded Goodrow, picking up Kuz would cancel out the cap maneuvering.

The league worked it into the CBA to prevent cap circumvention. Let a player go just to bring him back later and have someone else pay him. Its more about the player having his salary retained somewhere, not which team is paying it, if that makse sense. Seravelli (hope thats the correct spelling) was talking about it on a podcast this morning.

Under normal circumstances, yes they can, but since he was on the roster last season with another team retaining salary the only way they can trade for him is at full cap hit.

Seravalli confirmed NYR cant get Tarasenko retained
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rags21</b></div><div>I think it’s because he was on the ranger’s reserve list until 6/30 then walked at free agency
The CBA wording seems like it pertains to the player, and not the contract itself. So in other words, it doesn’t matter that it’s a new contract because it’s a the same player who was on the Rangers roster until 6/30 and obviously hasn’t been 365 days</div></div>
The wording in the CBA is calendar year, which the nhl considers to end right before free agency, so you are correct.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SHOWTIME_TTV</b></div><div>Not how it works. NYR never traded away Tarasenko. It's not the same!!!
You're referring to a situation where a team trades someone and then tries to reacquire the player with retained salary. THAT can't happen for 1 calendar year!
NYR paid STL to retain for a rental. OTT signs Tarasenko in free agency as a UFA. OTT can retain and send him to NYR. There is no cap circumvention because he wasn't traded to OTT!! WTF is so hard about this?</div></div>
Because its not about the contract its about the player the contract belong to.....

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SHOWTIME_TTV</b></div><div>LMFAO, try again.. Go to his 2021/22 contract and have a peek at EXPIRY STATUS: RFA (Arb)!!! He was a UFA AFTER PHI!
It matters because PHI traded for him, signed him as an RFA and tried to trade him back with retention. That's obviously cap circumvention!</div></div>
So they can't reaquire him with retention, which is what I was saying before, same reason the Rangers can't trade for Tarasenko. Its all about him being on the roster, leaving and being traded back. Contract status UFA or RFA doesn't matter. The only thing that does is that he was on the rangers payroll during the season, he can't be reaquired with retention for a full year.
