I actually think this would be really good for Buffalo. Caps would need you take a couple more players to move cap space Hagelin and Kempny.

Sheary is worth far more then a 4th round pick to the Capitals. His Cap hit is low and his value is high, Caps wouldn't trade him unless someone came in and was totally overpaying (a first or maybe a second rd pick).

the playbook
While forward core looks like it has scoring on every line, IMO for the Caps to be successful come playoff time they need to get McMichael ready for a top 6 role. Even if there are some growing pains early. Getting young guys on entry level contracts to step up is key with a tight Cap. They could also rotate him some with Kuzy for the center spot. I see this as very good skating D core, but it does lack some size. I would have Alexeyev spend most of his time in Hershey but ready to be called up for any injuries on the left side. Hank represents a Vet back up.

Why would the Caps pay extra to trade kuzy for a lesser player in Hertl? Even if you ignore their stats side by side, the Sharks have talent but with Hertl as the 1C their team isn't even making the playoffs. The Cap's haven't even come close to missing the playoffs with Kuzy at 1C.

I would protect TVR over Jensen. All things being equal they are pretty interchangeable talent wise, so would would be better off losing Jensen and getting a little more Cap space.

Also, in his two years, he has had two GMs, three coaches, two captains, one 10-month layoff, one 3-week layoff mid-season and got Covid.
So I agree, "special" just isn't strong enough to describe his potential.</div></div>
Just another guy who may eventually put up some regular season numbers but won't be able to physically hang in the playoffs.

Kuzy-B-Gone
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>grobkenwood</b></div><div>They still need to clear Cap space in order to sign Ovechkin and Samsonov. I only picked Stastny because he's a versatile veteran who is strong on faceoffs, can center any line and is someone who may take a cheap 1 year deal to have a chance at a championship. Something has to give to work McMichael into the lineup. Backstrom isn't going anywhere, they gave up a ton for Mantha, Oshie and Wilson are heart and soul players, Sheary was just re-signed for 2 years and Sprong is young and cheap. What's the solution?</div></div>
Don't trade Kuzy. https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/2494065

Kuzy-B-Gone
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>staytru20</b></div><div>So let's break down this Kuznetsov situation outlined here:
- Kuznetsov is not a bad player, nor is he declining. In fact, Kuznetsov has gotten <em>better</em> defensively. This season, (via Evolving-Hockey) Kuznetsov was in the 74th percentile for GAR/xGAR (77th in offense, 70th in defense). Last season, Kuznetsov was in the 2nd percentile defensively, which is awful. To put this in perspective, under Laviolette (and smarter zone deployments), Kuznetsov went up 68 points in net percentile defensively. He's still a solid player, and struggled at times this season due to two bouts with COVID.
- The Caps aren't going to trade Kuznetsov unless they're getting back a top six caliber forward. Trading Kuznetsov for futures doesn't make a ton of sense for a team that's nearing the end of a cup window. Caps are going to be all-in until they're clearly rebuilding, and Ovi/Backstrom retire.
- Stastny is a downgrade at center. Stastny was in the 52nd percentile for GAR/xGAR, and was worse offensively AND defensively than Kuznetsov in Evolving-Hockey's model. Not to mention he's slower and older than Kuznetsov.</div></div>
Spot on. Even if you think McMichael is ready to be a top 6 center then move Kuzy to wing and the team will be even better.

Our untradables are...well, mostly the guys that were traded here.
Hughes, Hischier, Smith, Severson, Bratt and Sharangovich aren't being moved for anything.
But just to play along for minute
WAS - For Hughes & Severson, Caps would have to add McMichael, Lapierre and another 1st round pick.
BUF - Not sure I'd do Hischier for Eichel until Jack gets clean bill of health. So to do this deal, Buffalo would need to add at least the 1st overall.
CBJ - Love Werenski, but would not trade Ty Smith. Columbus would need to add both of their late 1sts.
And none of those teams are meeting those prices.</div></div>
haha why? At this point if the Devils moved Hughes to the wing and he makes an all star game they would be lucky. He isn't special.

Cap's fans get frustrated that kuzy doesn't produce enough so their solution is to pay extra to trade him for a player who produces less and sign him for around the same price?

If you want to be polite and rational and explain what you think he should get, go ahead. I’d appreciate not being called “mental” because you disagree with a number on the screen.</div></div>
no he's right, this is dumb. Why would you trade kuzy only to sign a 3rd line center with about half the production at nearly the same cost?

Idk Vanecek is kind of risky pick for Seattle. He is already 25 and this season is the first time he has made the NHL, his ceiling has never been viewed to be super high, and this year is more likely to be an anomaly than other position players as he has had a really good team in front of him, and every team has to expose one goalie so you have to ask is he really better than 29 of the other goalies available?

Mantha Mania
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Capitalfail67</b></div><div>hard to argue that BUT the got the better player and saved nearly 3-4 million in cap space net year</div></div>
I think one of the biggest things to consider when evaluating this trade (and really all the Trade deadline moves) is what it tells you about the overall league and its current market, and imo that is with this flat cap moving big and or overvalued contracts and is going to be very expensive for the foreseeable future along with the fact that the cost of trading for and or signing good players has dropped significantly. Look at the cost of signing Sheary (1.5 AAV) in the pre-covid market there is no way he takes that offer with the season he is having. I wouldn't be surprised if Yzerman would have done Mantha for Vrana straight up (or closer to it) but he knew he could charge a very hefty premium to take Panik. Another thing to consider is that a 1st round pick this year, especially a later 1st round pick, isn't as valuable as this draft is going to be a far bigger crapshoot because scouting for it is so tough.

Orlov is their best LHD, they think they have a window for 2-3 more years, there is no chance they trade or expose him for anything less than a haul. I feel bad for Kempny but i would be surprised if he ever plays regular minutes again.

Orlov won't be exposed. He is too good and Ovi would be pissed. I love Travis Boyd but there is zero chance he would sign with the Caps, he wants to go somewhere he will play every night.

Ovi will get whatever he wants. His chase of the goal record means he will put fans in the stands. So even if he isn't producing like the other players making that much he may be even more valuable.

Is this a troll? Trading Kuzy is stupid. Why would the Caps trade Kuzy for a lower level player? They are in win now mode, and Kuzy gives them a chance at that. If they are going to Trade kuzy its because they are packing it in and starting the rebuild so they do it for top prospects and draft picks.
