Ever hear of COVID and Flat revenue cap? .. all #s will be MUCH smaller for next 2 to 3 years as we have seen already this free agent year.. down 20+% .. so you can NOT compare to previous years.. if no/limited fans and season .. several NHL teams in financial trouble

IT WORKS
A Mc Donough trade makes sense for both him and Tampa. He is a HIGHLY productive defensive D leader .. maybe #1 unsung player on Tampa .. does all the "dirty work" .. goes against opponent #1 line, PK, eats minutes .. enables Hedmen to be Hedmen .. and still gets some points but not flashy .. he makes 100% sense with a team like Colorado to help Cup chances OR a team like Rangers or Philly who have good young teams but need D and leadership.. he 30 so should have no problem playing well until 35 like many other D .. Bruins could make sense also but don't see that trade .. I think Mc Donough would go also.. he not really a "Florida guy" ... and if you don't get what that is .. please watch the Cup celebration.. partying fun and women are part.of culture

And I was 100% correct .. as usual .. Gourde contract is killing us now... Tampa won because it added Colemen Goodrow Maroom Shatterkirk and Bogo/Schen to a great core .. their addition .. at the cost of 3 #1 picks .. was because Gourde and TJ weren't good .. pure and simple. Without those GM moves by JBB .. Tampa doesn't win

Yawn .. let me educate the youth ..
1. Cirelli was 2C all year and was great and finished 4th in NHL for Selke ..
2. Stamkos is 2nd line winger with his biggest role now as the "one timer" on the PP .. which he is 2nd in NHL behind Ovy
3. See #1 and #2 b4 you post
4. TJ destroyed 2nd line in playoffs and why he gone
Stamkos to LTIR makes sense and trading him and his 8.5M cap hit in 2021 .. cap ptoblem solved.. I laugh at some of these chicken little posts...

Which Teams could use Killorn and Palat and have the Cap Space
LOL .. this board .. Killorn and Palat are 1st and 2nd line scoring wings on a championship team and have been doing it for years.. amazing how other team fans value the crap or prospects of their own team .. both worth a 2nd easy .. Killorn fits like a glove in Nashville and PAINS me to say that .. both would be losses for Tampa

Do they have a choice
I laugh at all this Tampa bashing/jealousy .. we just dominated the Cup .. not a Game 7 to be found .. without Stamkos .. our 5th or so best player. We do have issue due to 3 very good RFAs .. which 2 of them were acquired in trades and 1 a homegrown 4th rounder .. LOL .. we got 2 bad contrcats .. TJ and Gourde .. at end of day we will eat draft picks prospects or some cash to get rid of them .. and I laugh harder if people think NTCs matter in this Flat Cap world
Doesn't change fact we should win at least 2 more Cups in next 5 years under any scenario

Some idea I saw online
Stamkos injury complicates things and most likely a LTIR for a shortened regular season until playoffs ..
The one who looks great for Nashville is Killorn .. much to my chagrin .. particularly if Hoffman goes elsewhere.. Duclair is no Killorn and even Hoffman is not that far above Killorn given the intangibles.... Killorn could get a 2nd but probably not enough draw to bundle with Tampas 2 problems .. TJ and Gourde

I also think both are fair and realistic .. maybe a little less for Tampa but in ballpark.
And 100% TJ and Gourde take it .. when will fans here realize COVID and flat caps are making NTCs virtually worthless

How is the weather in your world? Tampa has been to 2 Cups and 4 Conference Finals in last 6 years. They are just hitting their "win zone" and should win at least 2 more Cups in next 5 years as the "core is just hitting 30" BUT the unique part is Point Vaz Cirelli and Serg make up the "next 25s wave" but they will take step down .. but not for 5 more years.

SERG going nowhere.. TJ to Detroit with a 2nd and a prospect that Yzerman likes for a "bag of pucks" is still in Detroits best interest in 2/3 years from now .. and TJ will go to ANY NHL team now .. he will never play for Tampa again .. cant understand why people don't get that...

What the Lightning should do
ISSUE is next year worse .. Coleman and Goodrow up for contracts and none go away. BUT situation is not that dire albeit tight.
1. TJ will go somewhere in NHL but will cost us a 2nd and prospect..
2. I would trade Gourde now and if cant/he says no .. waive him now.
3. TJ and Gourde are due $11M a year and $45M total .. if can't trade then now; forget next year as it will get worse. Tampa "saves" over $5M in Cap for next 4/5 years .. yea $6M dead money also but it all about freeing up space for next couple years.
4. Killorn and/or Palat would need to go this and next year .. again worse case if we eat 2/3 of TJ and Gourde contract over next 6 years.
This gets us to give 3 year contracts to RFAs ...
BETTER Strategy is to start to move Stamkos and Mc Donough next 2 years with Stamkos to LTIR ASAP.
HAVE to free up money for Point in 2022 and RFAs in 2024

Stamkos or the Shrimps
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bluejackets2000</b></div><div>What about option #4???
It seems that Stamkos has had more injury problems of late, and is becoming more unreliable from that standpoint.
He is 30 and signed for 4 more years...the chances of him missing significant time for injuries down the road increases considerably.
Trading Stamkos while he still has a high perceived value.
I realize he has a NMC, but it may be easier to find somebody who would take a chance on him (at his term and salary, given his injury status).
(Stamkos has meant a lot to TB, but could still reasonably be moved as he has not yet reached "Franchise" status like Crosby in Pittsburgh or Ovi in Washington)
This would free up almost enough space (will probably still need to waive or unload one of TJ, Gourde, Killorn, or Palat).
Cirelli could then be signed and play 2C behind Point at 1C.
Just a thought.</div></div>
I am 100% in agreement with you on trading Stamkos as I have been harping for a YEAR to do this .. we won Cup without him as proof .. problem now is his injury and what he worth.. last year we could have got 2 #1s and had NO cap issues as his cap would cover Serg and Cirelli.. ugh

Less TOI and fewer gp so everything was tougher

Your post proves mine .. Gourde worthless without good line mates to carry him .. he was God AWFUL this year 20 something points .. BUT "magically" played well in playoffs when Coleman and Goodrow were acquired...hmm .

Gourde NEVER broke out .. played 1st/2nd line where a chimp could excel with Point and Kuch .. Gourde is a low skill great hustling 3rd/4th line grinder .. TOTAL 100% contract error by JBB .. one of few to be fair..
I laugh at people here still thinking TJ and players have a choice with NTCs .. world is different now and will be worse in 2021 .. anyone can be waived with a NTC .. why Gourde hasn't been waived yet is beyond me .. only difference I see is TJ isn't coming back and to waive someone says we don't want you under any circumstances .. so waive TJ this year and waive Gourde next year could be the approach
