Clearing Cap Space and Filling Needs 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dekes</b></div><div>Fair enough I understand your thinking and btw I totally agree I’m fine with haula at 2C but my only worry is that we give up a 1st and a decent young asset for a player who may not resign and is also quite old. I’d rather move those assets towards a younger player that benefits us now and later.
My ideal target if they are looking to bring in a top line guy is killer his trade value wouldn’t be a whole lot more then what you offered for pavelski and Miller plays all 3 positions so he can play top line and if haula starts to fail Miller can be 2C and smith or haula go to line 1 as marchy and bergy usually can make just about anyone look good</div></div>
I think Miller and Hertl may end up being a bidding war and there is a chance, neither get moved at all. I'm looking at the Bruins taking a swing this year in case Bergy is done. Besides that, I replace this years 1st pick with one for next year from Vegas. Sorry, that's on my updated trade. Check my post under the same title but 3 instead of 2. You might like it better

I said that was probably high and said a 4th is a better fit. You really can't take this year as an example because the whole Bruins team was a mess to start the season with all the changes that happened and the screwed up schedule they had. Boston was really bad to start the season and SJ actually started pretty strong. Clifton was a Cassidy sacrifice like he likes to do. Then a couple players he was replaced with played some good hockey and took his spot. Go take a look at video from his 2019 playoffs and then come back and tell me he can't be a solid 3rd line D. I'm not saying he will be better than these guys in a few years but today he is a better player.
But hey, if it hurts you guys so much for me to suggest the trade I'll trade him somewhere else. Just thought the Sharks could benefit from him. Apparently I was wrong because you guys say so. 🤷♂️

I never said he would add to their prospect pool, I just said they were short on RD throughout their system. By adding Clifton for just above league minimum at 1 mil for another year after this allows the ones they have to develop.
I'd love to hear the argument for how at this moment 2 players with a combined 39 GP, 6 PTS and -8 are a better fit for the Sharks than a player with 121GP, 12 PTS and +17, who also has played 36 playoff games with 8 PTS and +1.
Another full year of development with Clifton as their third pair makes way more sense to me but to each their own I guess.

And while you want to talk about prospect pools, look at your own. Bottom of the league yet all Boston fans seem to think they can trade all their low level prospects for star players in the league.</div></div>
I've already said it. Neither Merkley or Meloche are ready for a full time NHL spot. Clifton gives them a couple years to develop so they are ready to take over more than a third pairing spot.

Meloche does not have better numbers than Clifton and neither he or Merkley are ready for full tume NHL play. Clifton fills a need today. You may think I'm wrong but what you said is not accurate in the least. Clifton beings experience, grit, is a career plus player and is ready now. Sharks do not have enough right handed defenseman prospects in their system. Clifton allows the two with potential that you do have to develop.

When you really look at his trades though, there isn't much in the way of intelligence there. The price was set for taking on salary dumps before he even started doing it. Being the leagues garbage dump for bad contracts while icing a horrible team and losing money hand over fist isn't the best management of a franchise. The real test of how smart he is will be if he can take all those assets and turn them into a winning team. If he doesn't, what was it all for? I have yet to hear a timeline from him on when his fan base should expect them to become relevant. 5 year plan? 10 year? Who knows?

I'm joking but it's really all about who gets there first. Boston has more reason to make the trade so if it comes to who will give more to make the trade, I give the edge to Boston. They can use the player while Arizona really just wants the pick.

-Plenty of cap space so now it's time to put the screws to Vegas who is under the gun to move some contracts. Martinez fits a LD1 need and with his cap hit they will have to pay to move it. It's going to cost them a 1st round pick to move 3 more years at 5.25 mil for a 34 year old.
Quick thought: Arizona cuts out the middle man here and just takes the 1st and Martinez...That way, they actually get a premium asset as opposed to a couple of long shots.</div></div>

What are you thinking with the Boston trade? You really think a playoff teams is going to take your salary dump and on top of that, pay you to do it?? The last thing the Bruins need is a diminutive 32 year old with 4 years left on a 6 million cap hit. Bruins don't have to move Debrusk so I don't know how you think Philly has the advantage here. If you want to throw in your first round pick for just Debrusk we'll give it some thought. We could use a top 10 pick.

No need to get snotty. 😁 I think the first 3 trades are good. What I might change is the Vegas and Dallas trades.
If I really take advantage of Vegas I get them to throw in their 1st pick with Martinez to take his whole cap hit and just give them a 4th in return. Then I could trade Clifton out for a 3rd or 4th on his own. Then maybe drop the 2nd round pick and just give Freddy, Bergland and the Vegas 1st for Pavelski

probably likely he maybe not resign he's also better at RW we need a 2C</div></div>
If Haula keeps playing the way he has at 2C we don't need to change the second line at all. He is on the plus side on draws, he is a grinder that line needs to retreive pucks and his point production would average out to 60+ points over 82 games since the beginning of January. The second line has been the best line we have had for a month now. Where we need help is an upgrade on Smith at RW on Bergys line. That allows Smith to go back to the third line where he will have more of an impact.
The other good thing about Pavelski is that it puts a second faceoff man on Bergys line for all those times they like to throw him out of the faceoff dot and there aren't many better at getting to the inside ice which that line struggles to do in the playoffs. These moves create three very capable lines and gives us options on the fourth line.
If for some reason Haula drops off, Pavelski is still able to slot into the 2C and would be just as successful there for the same reasons. Hall and Pasta work the outside ice while Pavelski would go to the interior for tips and bang ins. Don't know if you have been paying attention but he is still the highest scoring forward in Dallas. It's not an overpay the way he is playing and you might be overvaluing what Fredric brings to the table. Pavelski is worth 5 of him.

No that's looking at the skill set of a player just entering his prime who has already played at that level a couple years ago and seeing his potential to return there. I don't think he can do it in Boston because he won't be given that opportunity but his talent didn't just go away at 25. It was a mental thing that has stopped him. With a change of scenery, closer to his family and given a better opportunity he can return to his former level. That's not the value I am putting on him in a trade though.
I'm trading him at his current value which is low. That doesn't mean he can't make it look like a really bad trade in the future. If I was asking for what I think he can be, that would be over-valuing him but that's not what I'm doing. I don't think you understand the term. 🤷♂️

Agree with the others that the Toffoli trade is off but you might be able to squeeze a 1st out of Edmonton, instead of two seconds if Koskinen has another bad month. Then you can flip that in the Toffoli trade. Arizona probably takes Bailey's contract for that but you could get a late pick back.

I don't think I'm over-valuing him at all. My latest trade offer I posted was Debrusk and Nosek for Jarnkrok Sheahan. Two 30+ third and fourth liners that are on expiring contracts. Debrusk just turned 25 and was dealing with depression the last two years because of covid isolation. While that was going on he was replaced by Hall on the second line and has been in Cassidy's dog house meaning every bad game gets him sent to the pressbox. I have no doubt that being sent to a team like Seattle and given top 6 minutes again, he will be able to rise back to his previous level. The skill is there and he is still in his prime, unlike Parise.
