I like that Rust idea
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BStinson</b></div><div>Most people don’t realize how little cap Detroit is going to have after Seider, Raymond, and hopefully Kane. Probably need to ship some out versus bringing some in unless it’s a top 4 RD.</div></div>
When Kane wasn't traded at the TDL the likely hood of him resigning got a lot better.

Too much cap and term for Detroit to take on.

2C Solution
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AntiAnalytics</b></div><div>Except it’s NOT a solution bc there is ZERO CHANCE that it happens
1- Sabres aren’t trading Mitts
2- Byram is a LEFTY- we need a RIGHTY
3- Mitts won’t even fit under the Avs Cap moving forward w his new contract anyways
This trade idea has been shot down on this site LITERALLY about 50xs (AT LEAST)
It’s ok to actually THINK before u post, just so ya know
Sorry to be harsh, but the trade works for NEITHER SIDE and is just absurd</div></div>

I don't believe he's ever noted that the list has contributions from others. He and Pronman regularly do their own separate lists.
And usually if there's more than one contributor, the Athletic will either name everybody or define it as "NHL Staff".
Button is another one. Regularly disregards defensive ability. I dunno that I'd call him as blatant of a "Stat Watcher" as Wheeler, because Button at least has some credibility, but his lists are heavily influenced by the WJC.

Kasper is exactly the player Yzerman loves. Zegras is damn near the opposite.
Maybe this trade happens if Yzerman suddenly got fired, quit, or was struck by a meteor or something? I dunno. It ain't while he's the GM, though.

I think it's a little too early to point at New Jersey for that. Ottawa's issue is probably rooted in having too many young guys up front.</div></div>
19-20 they were the worst team in the league by 20+ points.
20-21 they were a bottom five team.
21-22 they were bottom 10 and 26 points out of a playoff spot.
22-23 they were bottom 10 and 12 points out of a playoff spot.
They have absolutely not been on the bubble for awhile lol. They were barely on the bubble at the TDL last year and were exposed as clearly not being ready when Ottawa clowned them around twice in the week leading up to the deadline.
Smart move is to lock Seider and Raymond into 8 year deals and re-sign Kane if he's willing to stay. That leaves little room to make other additions from outside the organization.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AC14</b></div><div>I mean they're getting very clear upgrades, and dumping pretty useless cap. You can't acquire prospects forever and hope they develop into roles they aren't suited for.</div></div>
1. Buying as soon as you're breaking the playoff bubble has certainly worked out for Ottawa and New Jersey.
2. I never commented on the quality of the players they were getting in return.
3. Kane is a PPG player since returning... He's not signing for $5M/year. That's a fantasy.
4. On the opposite side of the spectrum from fantasy, signing Seider and Raymond to two year deals is flat out stupidity.
So, back to my point... Detroit trades two 1sts to utterly **** their cap structure.

I have less than zero interest in ASP even before we go into the hyper inflated price he would cost. Hardest of passes.</div></div>
So even this trade package from Detroit would be a no from you? I understand if you aren’t an Asp fan and usually you have good takes. But turning down this package would be complete insanity

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MediocrityAccetableInToronto</b></div><div>why?</div></div>
- Positional value of an elite RD is way higher than an elite RW
- Seider is way younger and has team control
- Seider will cost noticeably less on his next deal while having a similar game impact
- Detroit's need for Seider vastly outweighs their need for Marner (Raymond and DeBrincat are both 1st line caliber wingers already)

2nd, 3rd, 4th last year…with $10.5m AAV and picked where he wanted to go. Hard to use that as baseline.
(Could be more, could be less…just hard to use to predict price this year).

Yeah the correct take, I said to Detroit he has more value. That's also a ridiculous comment. Bedard has more value to whatever team drafts him before playing 1 game for that team then Jarvis does. Logan Cooley played 0 NHL games, bet he has more value to zona then Jarvis does. The list goes on and on

Larkin pulls a Johnny
Larkin is from Detroit and is the captain of the team he grew up dreaming of playing for and is close to family.
Gaudreau is from New Jersey and was playing for a team over 3000km away in a different country all the while expressing desire to be closer to family.
Steve Yzerman said re-signing Larkin is a top priority. Detroit has loads of cap space to make him a rich man.
I doubt Larkin pulls a Johnny.
