It's not official, the speculation is between 78 and 82, so he picked the low end which is smart. ASSUME THE WORST

Indeed sir, indeed. I was a bit surprised they only got a 5th round prospect as the second piece, especially since it was the Devs.

You got McDonagh and JT Miller and you're still not satisfied? The value isn't there for any of the opposing teams.

mcdonagh pls
You've lost your mind. McD will fetch a similar return to Brassard, and Miller is a solid young-ish player that would also fetch a nice return. You're giving up very little considering Oprik has negative value and Burk is mega-inconsistent, which could result in him becoming in a bust. You took "all our bad players for all their good players" to another level. You didn't even bother to put a 1st rounder in.

Kane is the last thing we need. Especially for that price. He's good, but everyone knows he's a pain in the ass and perhaps the worst locker room guy in the league. Hard pass.

Reasonable. Reilly would be an interesting pickup. I don't know why they want Cullen back though. He had a good run, leave it be. We don't need him at all and he'd push a better player out of the 4C spot.

You read my mind. I'm not overly familiar with the guy, but from what i've seen he seems to be a Cole-lite, and MTL has tons of cap space. I think we'd have to give up more than that though. Probably a 3rd at least. You're basically buying their cap space, like with Vegas, and also snagging a depth D at the same time.

Going all in with McDonagh
Trading two 1st rounders and two top prospects at the same trade deadline? That would be brutal. Starting next year with one pick in the first three rounds and the likely gaping holes of Cole and Hornqvist... talk about a rock and a hard place. The Rangers will probably get more than that for McD anyway.

As great as it would be, I just can't see that happening. If only because we need a bottom pair/depth D man 100x more than we need another RW(arguably our deepest position). Not to mention NY will probably be reluctant to help us out. Cool thought though.

Brassard deal illegal?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rangersandislesfan</b></div><div>Ottawa trades Brassard to Pittsburgh for Gustavsson, a 1st, and Cole. Pittsburgh then trades Brassard 50% retained to Vegas in exchange for future considerations, and Gustavsson goes from the Senators to the Golden Knights for Brassard. Ottawa then trades Cole, the 1st round pick, future considerations, Brassard, and Gustavsson to the Penguins for more future considerations before Pittsburgh trades Brassard to Ottawa for the 1st in 2018 once again, then the 1st to Vegas for Cole, and Brassard gets traded to Vegas 50% retained from Ottawa for Gustavsson, who then goes to Pittsburgh for future considerations. Then, Ottawa trades future considerations to Vegas for the 1st, which then goes to Pittsburgh for Gustavsson and Cole. Cole is then traded to the Golden Knights from the Senators for future considerations. The Penguins then get Gustavsson from Vegas to a 1st. Finally, Vegas trades Cole and Gustavsson to Ottawa for Brassard.
That is how confusing this is getting, lol</div></div>
Seems legit.

Both Simon(15) and the guy the devils traded(16) were 5th rounders, and it was to another division team. Super disappointing. Do you think Pageau is worth the ask? If you think about it, he's kind of like a center version of conor sheary. Undersized and inconsistent. Granted, I don't watch him every night, but he's got fewer points than Sheahan with a bigger cap hit.

To make it worse, he got traded for about what you had up there. Simon was a 5th rounder, so was the prospect from the devs.

I feel really good about this.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>IgorKutchakokov</b></div><div>I would absolutely not make that deal with Carolina. Pens don't need to move up in the draft, and Shear is a lot more valuable to the team than a 30+ year old with less than 125 NHL games</div></div>
The main reason I did it was to save other major assets but more importantly free up a little cap space for the offseason, while still getting better this year. That trade makes it easier to give up a first for Grabner as well. We also have to consider that GMJR could have a rocky relationship with Carolina still, so if we want a right handed 4C, its either step up for Ryan, waste assets on Letestu, or move salary out to fit Plekanec in. Just my rationale.

Let's a make a move
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BetterBrianMaclellan</b></div><div>That's a good question. I'm not really one to bandwagon and start hating a player just because everyone says he sucks. Personally, I think Burakovsky has not quite adjusted as he should have to the NHL and I think the caps could trade him while he still has value and potential in order to maximize his value. He has become somewhat of a frustrating player (not that he is being coached properly, but that's a whole other story). Burakovsky has this season struggled to find his game, when he was supposed to take a leap. He tends to miss the net frequently and skates himself into tough areas. While he does show flashes here and there, i don't think its frequent enough to overlook when he does make bad plays. I think he could become a good player in this league, but I am also worried that it won't happen. So in that sense, trading him now would elicit the greatest return. He's not a bad player rn, he's just not taking that next step as he should.
Full disclaimer: He has had a tough season with injuries and scratches, so that could definitely be affecting his game.</div></div>
Appreciate the detailed response. As a Pens fan I recall him being a solid player(from what I saw), and considering his age/contract it made me wonder. Conor Sheary is like that for us. He's shown some brilliant flashes, but is also inconsistent. Good luck this year.

Trading Hunwick and trading for Pacioretty and Cullen
Perhaps it makes more sense to use the assets for patch on Grabner instead, and then resign him. We need EV strength production, and Grabner is second to Matthews only(last 2 yrs), so why not go with the cheaper option, both in terms of money and assets forfeited? Plus, Grabner in the pens forecheck heavy system..... my gawd. One must also consider MTLs strong desire for a nice C, as others have said. Solid attempt nonetheless :cheers
