Rebuilding the D this summer
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Signing later 20s Forsling and Roy to long contracts looks long term iffy.
Yeah the Leaf will be replacing Giordano, Brodie and Klingberg......that 9m in cap with other players, but spending 14m on two players seems unwise.</div></div>
So what would you suggest? You need a strong defence to win a cup. Furthermore Forsling and Roy are in their prime...Dmen are often at the top of their game between 27 and 32. Sure the tail end of these deals might not be great but we are trying to win a cup.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafsfan98</b></div><div>Tanev's game is effective for the next 2-3 years... And he's still very good
As for Hanifin, https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/noah-hanifin-on-toronto-mcdavid-and-nhl-draft/ This was him on Toronto before he got drafted 5th:
"'I’ve been to Toronto a bunch of times and it’s an unbelievable city,' he said. 'The hockey environment there is so special and if it ever works for me to be in Toronto, it’d be such an honour.'"</div></div>
It's good that there are options. This is the summer to address the D, lots of decent players hitting the market by the looks of it. I am very high on Forsling and Roy, but there are others for sure. Thanks for the insight on hannifan.

Yeah, not sure Robbie makes more. He is prolly on the bubble to make the team. So far so good with him though.
Liljegren's money will be effected by term...so it sort of depends. He is not really a proven top four yet. And he is under control.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafsfan98</b></div><div>Would rather go after Tanev and Hanifin TBH...
Tanev will be cheaper and Hanifin a little more expensive than these two, allowing room for Domi and Bert which should complete the team...
I'd also sign a Reimer at Min in case Hildeby doesn't pan out</div></div>
A vet goalie is probably smart. Tanev is getting older and I am not sure Hannifan wants to stay in Canada. Still Forsling and Roy are real good defenders on real good teams.

Prospect ranking
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Nhl_oilers</b></div><div>Your rankings are the reason why more than half of the population doesn’t agree with you about Niemela, and Liljegren. I hope some leaf fans are more realistic and don’t think the same.</div></div>
By the time these prospects prove be good or not, no one here will remember this discussion.
Here is how I would rank the Leafs prospects based on what I have seen with my eyes, more so than pedigree or reports.
Robertson
Niemela
Sandin
Liljegren
I would not rank Rodion Amirov in that group. Niemela looks great. Liljegren has looked really good this year, edging back into the discussion.

Hertl is the better player. We could possibly re-sign him.

Yeah, two seconds isn't cheap...but the player has another year on his deal and if they put him to market the bidding could get high. It sure firms up our forward group.

I would just do the Nylander for Hughes part and leave it there. I mean you could tweak it with picks to even things out.

Player movement might be quite difficult in the off season. The purpose of this post was to show where the Leafs stand going into next year.
We have several tradable players. Yes we need a t least one decent defenceman.
By the way you are probably selling low on Holl...I think he is a legit top four. I mean he is playing top four minutes as a shut down pair and doing really well.

Engvall isn't an offensive player. Would hate to see him bumped into the top two centre positions if either Tavares or Matthews was injured.</div></div>
You have other options like Nylander or possibly Marner who can play C...they would be better than Kerfoot
