This will be updated repeatedly. Right now, he's not signed. Ergo, I didn't sign him.

Taking over the East
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MG1986</b></div><div>It's only my opinion, but no team takes over the East with Evgeny Kuznetsov as their first line centre, especially in a division that features the Pittsburgh Penguins. The D group you are proposing may be great one day, but as a group, it's awfully young as far as experience goes..</div></div>
Yeah, that's a tad bit too cheap for Kuznetsov. Capitals have zero reason to get rid of him and they can easily afford him. But it's right along the correct path. Make the 2018 second rounder a first rounder and if I'm the Caps, I take it.

Some big moves
I like the Barkov-Kuznetsov swap. But it almost feels like a lateral move. Why would either team do it other than about $300K of cap space? Some interesting moves here, definitely one of the more creative Caps rosters I've seen.

Ovechkin to Ottawa, Kuznetsov to Arizona, Johansson to Anaheim
1. Why in heaven's name are you trading Kuznetsov? That's a terrible return for him on top of that.
2. Ottawa might be the LAST team I'd expect to trade for Ovechkin because they're a strict budget team. Ovi's due a ton of money over the rest of his contract.
3. Not opposed to a Johansson to the Ducks trade, but if it happens, it's for a defenseman.

I've seen maybe two legitimate Ovechkin trades on here. Maybe that's a sign the Caps shouldn't trade him.

Vegas Golden Knights
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Snobalt</b></div><div>Wishful thinking, tqueen. Nichushkin will probably stay in Russia for another season, while Radulov wants to re-sign with Montreal. You also may not even need Bishop if Vegas picks the right goalies; lots of good ones will be available. The Oshie signing is definitely realistic though.
After doing many mock expansion drafts, Vegas usually ends up with good wingers, but I'm not a fan of yours. There are better guys to slot into the bottom 6, and if Nichushkin and Radulov don't sign, you'll need two new wingers for Namestnikov. Your center depth is very solid even though Hayes will probably be protected. I'm also skeptical of the defense, as one of Brodin or Dumba will be available, and either is a better choice than Scandella. Daley is a poor choice because of his age, and Demers will probably be protected.
Overall, though, I find this team neither realistic nor competitive. Sorry.</div></div>
I haven't done a mock draft yet where they get good wings. I've done a lot and every time, I have a good defense unless I actively try to not have one.

quick rebuild
There's no way one of the league's most budget-centric teams would trade for Ovechkin without clearing very significant salary. Maybe if they got rid of Bobby Ryan somehow, that would help. Honestly, the only team I can see Ovi playing for other than the Caps is Montreal.

$6.1 million (what Mark Scheifele got) sounds about right. Probably a little bit more.

It would need to be a sign and trade deal with Washington Caps give him 8 years $52 million lets say $6.5 million AAV and then Lou gives Washington the necessary pieces for the transaction.</div></div>
Weird how sign and trades like never happen. So hard to judge precisely what it would entail. You could even have it written in the contract that he has a NMC after his first season if Shattenkirk really wants an NMC.

I'm not really concerned with the crowd source list, I live and breath Flames hockey. Barring any trades ahead of the expansion draft, the above will be our protected list.
Vegas can pick from:
Brouwer. Stajan, Bouma, Chiasson (RFA), Freddie Hamilton, Vey (RFA), Shinkaruk, Poirier, Bartkowski, Kulak (RFA, Wotherspoon (RFA), Culkin (RFA), McCollum
Or, they can use the 48 hour window prior to the expansion draft to sign one of our UFA's:
Stone, Engelland, Wideman, Versteeg, Bollig, Elliott, Johnson</div></div>
I'll trust you. Shinkaruk is an intriguing enough guy for me to take a chance on.

Not so sure about that. If they leave Brouwer exposed, maybe. But Brouwer seems like a Brian Burke kind of player so that likely won't happen.</div></div>
lol you can be sure about it. Ferland is also a Brian Burke type player (he's not our GM though) put up 2 more goals than Brouwer, same amount of points as Brouwer, is 7 years younger than Brouwer, and will likely cost a 3rd against the cap as what Brouwer does. He also hits like a freight train and can fight.
They might swing a a side deal to protect Brouwer somehow, but you can bet Ferland is getting protected.</div></div>
All depends on what they do with Lazar. I mean, they just gave up a second rounder for him, so that's a pretty good hint they'll protect him. Crowd source list has Monahan, 2 of the 3 Ms (Tkachuk is exempt), Gaudreau, Brouwer, Lazar and Bennett.

Pens are not going to lose either to expansion for nothing. I think they will protect 4 D, force Vegas to take Fleury, Hornqvist, or Hagelin</div></div>
Crowd source list says otherwise

Won't get either i'm afraid. Pens will protect 4 D Letang/Schultz/Maatta/Dumo... Then only 4 F as well, Crosby/Malkin/Kessel/ (then one of: Hagelin/Rust/Hornqvist)</div></div>
That's an interesting theory. I just used the crowd sourced protection lists. In your scenario, they're protecting Rust.
