If Eugene Melnyk immediately accepted swapping Cody Ceci for Taylor Hall
Hypotheticals are fun, but if you really want to get deep you would have to adjust draft positions based on all the retracted trades.
Not easy to do, but potentially OTT doesn't finish with the same draft picks that got them Stutzle, Tkachuk Norris and Co.

Most Cash and Upside for AM34
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MikeyVC97</b></div><div>I know everyone is freaked about Toronto's current cap and lack of success problem but that's NOT Matthews' fault. The Leaf's overpaid Marner and others not Matthews. To think the Hawks can't sign a top FA because they have a lot of prospects is a flawed mentality. Look at what happened when the Hawks in the early days of the last rebuild signed Campbell and Hossa those were amazing FAs to add to a crop of drafted prospects. You can never be 100% obviously, there will be mistake signings like Huet. But like I said you don't even get opportunities to sign players like Matthews every year maybe once-a-decade type FA opportunity!</div></div>
I dont have a problem signing Matthews as a UFA, quiet the opposite. I just disagreed with you saying it will be "years" before the rebuild is over.

Chicago should be another bottom 10 team this year, but 24-25 should be the start of their climb in the Central.
Its interesting you don't see the comparison with Chicago and Toronto's rebuild that brought them Matthews, Marner, Willy and Rielly. Toronto made the playoffs Matthews 1st year.
Chicago has high end forward prospects (Bedard, Reichel, Nazar and Moore) Depth prospects (Ludwinski, Hayes, Savoie, Greene) + the 9 other draft picks from this past year and 13 picks in the top 3 rounds in the next 3 years. Dont forget the 60 Million in cap space in 24-25
Not all of the prospects will work, but the foundation has been started.

Ethan Bear contract is interesting.
There should be someone better, or equivalent to him that doesnt cost 5 x 4.
In a perfect world one of the other LD prospects figures out how to play on the Right side. Allen, Del Mastro? Rinzel probably wont be ready.. I dont know much about Taige Harding but at 6'7 and 240lbs he has the body to be a bottom pair shut down guy.

These Lines are fine enough. I also like <a href="/users/EXO2769" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@EXO2769</a> take on AA being 2nd line C.
I think the D will be interesting.
Tinordi will not be able to play an entire 82 games, Zaitsev might be terrible. I could see Chicago using 10+ different dmen through out they year.

Murphy is a solid dman, his stats may be inflated because of how poor Chicago has been these last few years. His game will translate well into the playoffs.
It would be very disappointing if that was the return of Murphy + retention

Move out Faksa and his 3.25 and Dallas has cap to bring back Pavelski.

I couldn't remember so I had to look it up.. all I see is that you can not win more than 2 times in a 5 year period.
You should be able to get 1OA back to back.
I didn't see what happens with your pick if you win a 3rd time in those 5 years.. I assume you drop 1 spot ?

Would Edmonton have traded Mcdavid and 4 other First round picks (Nazar 13OA, Rinzel 25OA, 24 and 25 1st) for Crosby?

I think the lines this year will be similar to how Coach Q rolled lines. Who ever is hot/working hard gets the spot on the wing with Bedard and Hall.
Perry might get a chance there, but that isn't the best play for the development of the younger guys.
Kurashev, Raddysh, Guttman should get a chance, then they properly slot into their 2nd and 3rd line roles when this team is competitive

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LivingAnew</b></div><div>Hmmm... I think I'd take this deal. Yes, the Hawks have an abundance of Ds in the pipeline. However, they are overwhelmingly LD, not R. They have a paucity of RD prospects in the system, and Smith can apparently play both sides so I'd take him on.
Ds take a LONG time to mature; we could be bringing in vets on short-term deals for five years as it stands now, even if we draft a bunch of RDs in next year's draft (which is supposed to strong in Ds.) I'd rather get a few now and get started in our RD development prior to exclusively drafting 18-year olds next year.
I'm not worried about having too many good goalie prospects; that's a good problem to have. And we don't know which one (or two these days) will be the one(s) that will be the starter(s) in the future.
Hey, reasonable minds can disagree. Cheers</div></div>
Fair points, you can never have too many prospects..
I see Ty Smith is another Ian Mitchell. Id prefer to give our own guys a chance before Smith. Philips, Roos, even Nolan and Del Mastro, plus im assuming that Vlasic, Kiaser and potentially Korchinski get a chance to start the year with the team.

Jaxon Stauber is down there as well. But i agree with your take, id prefer picks over bodies.

I disagree.
Chicago has 3 young goalies Soderblom, Commesso and Gajan.
They are healthy with D Prospects.
Petry can still play and could fetch another 2nd round pick retained at the deadline... but bringing in these specific players just adds to the log jam at the backend. Chicago will give their own prospects a chance.

Anaheim has been patient with Comtois, but they are ready to walk away from him. Seems like a Red flag.. Im ok with giving him a go but 3 years might be too long.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>Raddysh was 16th among Hawks forwards last year with 1.18 P/60 at 5v5. The only reason his boxcars appear decent is because he got PP time, something that likely wouldn't happen on any other NHL team (and likely won't in Chicago next year either). It's a mirage.
AA scored 30 one time, remember? He wasn't worth a 2 good prospects + a top-4 defenseman either.</div></div>
You kinda just reiterated what I said.. Sure Raddysh slots into a different role on a deeper team. Capitalizing when you do get an opportunity is promising.
You could make the same argument about Ceci, Sure on Edmontons d core he is top 4 but on Team x, y and z he is a bottom pair guy..

Hawks fans might value Raddysh more than others, but 20 Goals in the National Hockey League isnt easy. I cant think of a "4th Liner" on any team with 20 G.
Chicago was, and will be brutal again this year. Sure on a deep team Raddysh might slot into a different role, but he has found his scoring touch with Chicago.
