Yeah, they were certainly getting carried away, but his price will likely be 1 notch above what would be considered fair.
If the cost for Klingberg was simular to Severson, I'd easily go for Severson.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PleaseBanMeForMyOwnGood</b></div><div>Yup your other Devil fan friends are asking for the equivalent of 3 1st and two roster players for a 2nd pair defenceman. It's not going to be worth it for the Devil's unless they get a Norris trophy winner calibre return. Because living in a dream world is fun.</div></div>
In reality though, it'll take an overpay to get him. They really don't need to move him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aadoyle</b></div><div>Im probs gonna get the people who complain about overpays and players getting to much money lul.
As lets be real if we were NHL players would we take team discounts...Nope
Very few players take discounts and often players go for the max money they can
Its like that in every sport and while some might not agree they got to learn to deal with it</div></div>
Yep. Every fanbase thinks they're favourite players will be the ones to take less, in reality it's pretty rare.
When you take $500k or $1M less per year over a long term, it adds up to some significant $$.

If dubas didnt give into the pressure
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aadoyle</b></div><div>Lul, why should a player take less money...
This philosophy is backwards. Fans can complain all they want but if you were in any of their shoes you and your agent would be going for the maximum amount of money they can get from their respected team. As why take a discount when you dont need to.</div></div>
I'm assuming you're not going to get any intelligent responses.

LOL... two guys that can hardly make 3 ft passes playing with the best goal scorer in the world.

Depth Charge IV
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>You're delusional. Not in my discussion do the Leafs leave an 11m hole in their lineup. Stop make such silly falsehoods just so you can present your opinion. As a said don't like my opinion, fine, but I guess you never had anyone else disagree with you. Get use to it. Good bye.</div></div>
It's a superstar driven league. Leafs are a worse team without Marner today and going forward, unless he's traded for a crazy overpay. Not capspace.

Depth Charge IV
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Sorry, cap space isn't made by trading a 3.5m player who is the fifth best forward on the team,. Then you got to replace him. Thanks a ridiculous argument you made. If you think Marner is a difference maker and worthy of his 11m fine. Just my opinion the Leafs can do much better trading him and shoring up other positions now and long term. Sorry if it's so painful that to you that some one has a different opinion.</div></div>
Ridiculous argument I made.
You're worried about losing the 5th best forward, but willing to lose the 2nd best forward for nothing.
How many teams have traded their 20 min per night 90 pt 24 yo in order to clear cap?

Depth Charge IV
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Actually the Leafs did quite well when Marner was injured. Next season the Leafs with the current roster. 7 players making 53m....leaving 15 players making 20m. I just think the Leafs will worse next season if they keep their top 7. The three Dmen can't be traded, neither can Tavares. That leaves Matthews, Marner and Nylander</div></div>
Yeah, tough time scoring on worst team in the league, or blowing leads every night. Great stretch of hockey!!
Capspace is made by moving Kerfoot types and replacing them with Robertson, not moving Marner types and replacing them with nothing. That is how teams get worse.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>That's not true....I would prefer to retain some of the Leafs that might be lost because of the cap situation.</div></div>
Yeah, the team certainly improves by bringing back everyone but their 24yo 90pt 2 way playmaking winger.
No one needs someone like that.

He's convinced Leafs would be better off spending their capspace on overpriced UFAs.

middle is mediocre. suzuki is a 2c, dvorak is a 2c, pitlick is a 3c, evans and poehling are good 4cs
so yeah it’s not great but hopefully suzuki poehling evans mold into their positions</div></div>
There wouldn't be a contender in the league that would be happy with Rem Pitlick as their 3C.
Don't think many contenders would want Dvorak as their 2C at the moment either.

Possibly if injuries pop up.
Difference is Mikheyev had to steal a spot from Ritchie. Those 2 have a much tougher task taking a job if everyone is healthy.
