Zub is hardly untouchable, but replacing him with Gudas is baffling at best. And as Fergy22 said - decent RHD don't exactly grow on trees...

I like the D corps re-tool a lot and bringing in Laughton would be a huge boon for the 3rd line. However, I find it hard to believe the Pens would part with Jarry in exchange for Korpi's contract (even with a late 1st and a semi-decent G prospect involved), and I highly doubt Chandler Stephenson would want to play in Ottawa (but that's fun to think about on paper). I also really dislike bringing Connor Brown back since he's been horrible ever since his knee injury.

Naive question, is Lafferty really enough of an "upgrade" over Lazar that you'd want him for 4 years?

I think our disconnect is in the assumption that Norris will be healthy at all in the 2024-25 season. As I've been saying, that's the 3rd time he's injured and had surgery on the same shoulder; this is going to be a much longer timeframe than "several months" to recover and rehabilitate it. Trying to rush him back to the game directly led to his 2nd injury so I highly doubt he and his medical team will make the same mistake.

"maybe" isn't worth a late 1st and one of the few decent prospects left in Ottawa. I don't mind the idea of the Sens dumping Korpi for a reliable upgrade, but I agree with Bobrick - Vanecek ain't it. Especially when there's some compelling UFA options available this off-season.

I have to assume that Gudbranson for Chabot 1:1 is a joke.
Trading Norris to help the Hawks hit the cap floor is interesting however.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Beargold</b></div><div>I'd love to see Ostapchuk play that 4C role over Kastelic tbh. Maybe we could buy out Korpi and use Kastelic to get bargaining rights to Desmith out of VAN? Sign him to run a tandem with Sogaard/Forsberg with the threat of AHL demotion for the latter two as incentive to pull it together. We can survive the one more year of Forsberg so I'd rather just keep him and the 4th and with our goalie injury history, the depth would be nice.
As an aside, if we waive Forsberg and someone claims him then problem solved anyway.</div></div>
The only thing I don't like about waiving Forsberg is if no one claims him we have another potential AHL goalie logjam. So hopefully we'd see Soggy and Merialainen get starts instead.
I personally think DeSmith is overrated - his numbers in Vancouver haven't been particularly compelling. Trading Kasty to acquire bargaining rights for someone then promoting Ostapchuk seems like a pretty reasonable idea however, since I don't have a lot of faith in Kasty at this point.

I'd try to get a young, 2nd-line ready winger for Chychrun and skip the Toffoli signing, then use that cap space on a goalie</div></div>
Goalies are voodoo, UFA tendies doubly so. But I can't disagree that this tandem is shaky at best - bringing in someone like Wedgewood or Stolarz or even Brossoit then keeping Soggy in the AHL makes a lot of sense on paper.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Chabotrrorr</b></div><div>No need for Hakanpaa or the 3rd round pick. Keep Bernard-Docker. This allows the Sens to keep Chychrun and still sign the UFAs. The only problem: We haven't solved the goalie problem. I do like the addition of another solid forward (Toffoli), but I still think we need a solid goalie.</div></div>
JBD honestly hasn't impressed me this year; he's been wildly inconsistent, struggles to make safe passes, and routinely gets outmuscled in puck battles. I think he can grow into a solid shutdown guy in another 2-3 years but the Sens frankly don't have that kind of time to spare rn.
I fully agree that the goalie situation is a total ****ing mess, no mistake about it...Dorion really screwed the pooch between the Murray and Korpi signings. My hope here, as stated above, is that a new coaching team will help achieve some positive goalie voodoo for once and avoid the Sens making a desperation trade or buyout (which I feel like is the exact kind of shortsighted thinking that's caused this rebuild to stall out).
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafsfan98</b></div><div>This a a projection for next year though... When Norris can return</div></div>
I don't follow. This is for the 2024-25 season and I assume Norris will be rehabbing his shoulder all through it, as stated above. If he does return for 2025-26, the cap rises and Giroux's contract falls off so there's plenty of space to bring him in while also bridging Greig.

Norris is having shoulder surgery for the 3rd time in his young career. Best-case scenario is he's on LTIR for the entire season, worst is a Robidas Island retirement.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SlickWilly</b></div><div>JBD is intriguing and we could use some RD prospects but probably not for an early 3rd</div></div>
You're probably right; although he's taken some good steps forward since being waived early in the year it's a <em>pretty optimistic</em> trade and I'll be the first to admit it :awesome

Not a fan. Dube is a straight downgrade from Joseph (who's really broken out this season) and Weegar doesn't do anything to help the Sens' consistently horrendous defense. What Ottawa really needs is a physical shutdown D man.

Yeah Tampa are clearly betting Jeannot rekindles whatever magic he had going last season and doing everything in their power to keep the window open. I can see the logic behind it but obviously they overpaid in a big way on this trade.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lambchopz</b></div><div>Depends on where that pick falls for Ottawa but if that isn’t a top 10 pick that’s pretty weak value for Fiala. The guy has been at or around PPG for what, the last 2 or 3 years? Very solid player. I think their 1st this year with the other 2 things work. Boucher isn’t that good I hate to say it. A lot of people had him as a projected 3rd rounder or around that going into the draft and while his value is higher than that, it’s not super high. Was a horrible pick at the time and looks even worse rn. His ceiling I would say is a 3rd liner who hits and fights (maybe like a Greenway at absolute best case scenario? Or a Foligno but instead of elite defence just average?)</div></div>
Yeah I absolutely take that trade proposed by OP if I'm the Sens' GM - I think Boucher has a chance to turn it around and find his game, but that's an underpayment for Fiala IMO even if he was pretty bad this past playoff run for Minnesota.
Adding in this year's 7oa is asking too much though. I think 2022 7oa pick + 2023 2nd + Boucher, or 2023 1st with top 5 protection + a better prospect (Grieg or Sokolov perhaps) is more even.

Oh this is <em>absolutely</em> a low-ball offer for Dumba, to be clear; I presume the Wild will want to keep Fiala by any means necessary and that means moving Dumba for whatever they can get. Brannstrom hasn't been awful but he's definitely not living up to being "worth trading Mark Stone for" in any case.

Achieving Unparalleled Success
Imo it's a choice of White or Murray for buyout, and I'd rather see Murray gone asap with Forsberg performing at a starter level. It's true that White is still on the books until the end of 2024-25 which is fairly tough to stomach though...in any case I'm not convinced that Pinto or Grieg are really NHL ready just yet, but they and Sokolov would be first call-ups in this scenario.
Fair point on Gambrell; while he hasn't been <em>bad</em> in Ottawa, he's been wholly unremarkable and will be easily replaced by a more compelling player. At least it only cost the Sens a 7th to bring him in.
