Not so sure. Dvorak is a local guy who can take some defensive pressure off the Bedard line for one year. They have the cap space. , This is a team that signed Corey Perry to a $4M contract short term to give themselves some vets.

If Commesso is not available, then any other AHL goalie for Harris. Harris is moveable for something.
I hope folks can tell that the trades I show are not really targeting any special players. I just wanna move guys off the roster who are moveable (Gallagher, Price and Anderson I did not move)

Armia is only at the 2025 trade deadline. If we don't get the 7th rounder I don't care. Either way he is gone by 2025-26.
Pearson trade has a typo that I can't fix, but Kovacevic goes with him, and was the bigger piece.

LOL, his speed is nowhere near Byron-esque unless you mean today.

Cap Replacement Model

The purpose of picks ike 5OA is to get a star player. Keller is a star player already, signed for 5 more years.
It is less risky to trade for a star while clearing the cap to pay said star than to hope a draft pick pans out, even one as high as 5OA. The pick may or may not ever be as good as Keller and meanwhile you are paying over $7M to that prospect plus Gallagher.
My real fear is that Arizona thinks the compensation is not enough, not that we are giving up too much.

Interesting how there are people who think the deal is terrible for us because we give up magic beans, and there are those hwo think it is terrible for Arizona beause Keller is a proven asset and picks are not.
The truth is in the middle. Keller is a great player but is paid way more than an ELC player would be. The edxpected cap hits restore some balance to the value of those assets.

Regarding the 5th OA, we would be thrilled to get a player of Keller's worth at 5OA. But the drawback is that he is not on ELC, and takes up a lot of cap. This is why sending back Gallagher who has 4 years at 6.5M offsets that one drawback.
It hurts a bit, but I could live with keeping Harris and trading Barron if the Jets added a 2nd. Barron is going to be pretty good.

If they wait for the summer or next TDL. they will get at best 2024 first from someone, but probbly a later one than the cClgary 2025. Giving them two 2023 mid-round picks to compensate for the extra year.
Mesar or Roy without Dillon included, I don't care much.

Girard has negative value and would be my 7th D. Colorado needs a middle-6C more than futures.

Sabres deal reverted. Habs sign UFA goalie instead and keep Anderson until a team really wants him.
Ducks get trade protection. If they win the lottery for Bedard, they keep him and don't get the two first rounders offered.
Leafs do need help on D. Edmundson helped beat them in 2021, they know his worth on the PK.

They could easily get a first for Dvorak <strong>in his final year</strong>, especially if they retain $1M.
Monahan will fetch a first if he scores at a 55 point pace and teams want experience scoring depth for a playoff run. He would be one of the top 2-3 guys available.
Edmundson will probably get a Chiarot-type return, both a 1st and a prospect, but I left out the prospect.

Colorado is just a placeholder. Those could be any teams, one per year.
Edmundson is not crap, neither is Dvorak and neither is Monahan. If some turn into a sedond, or if a prospect is also included, it's not that important. I was more concerned with the roster than the exact picks we would get back.

Montreal kinda clearly said (a) we ain't going after big names this offseason, (b) we're not looking to compete next year so as far as I know Wright can get his stint and then be sent back to the OHL so we can properly stink again without hurting his development.</div></div>
First overall picks almost always play in the NHL right away. The few exceptions are usually NCAA players.

Team going into 2022 season
With $6M in cap space, no need to buy out Drouin.
Believe WSH will sign Samsonov. I think we can go with Allen and Montembeault anyway and be somewhat competiktive as a bubble team, probably on the outside.
I would not do the ANA deal. Mailloux has more value. Also I believe that Gallahger will retire in the next two years if he can hardly play, so see what happens for a year or two. We don't really care if we have him on the cap next year at least.
Hoffman is a better passer than many thought and he is putting in an effort defensively at this time, so I am not seperate to give him away yet. He is moveable with $1M in retention, but we can try him next year and see how that works for a full season.

If they need more capspace and can't trade him away, I would consider buying out Drouin for another 3.2M.</div></div>
Unless we go with a 21 man roster, sending Guhle and Barron down won't save cap space.
I agree that we should not spend big money on long-term contrats to older players. But if a Johnny Hockey at 28 yo were available, it would be nice to have the cap space to grab him, even if our prime contention years were two years away.
