UFA and some re-sign
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FireShanahanTrelivingKeefe</b></div><div>Kampf is not a good 3rd line center and TML use him as a 4th which is way overpriced , sorry but Kampf is a cap dump to any team.
Timmins is way too inconsistent for what we need ,a rugged shut down defender for 3rd pair or as a call up is what is needed.</div></div>
U can add that without trading Timmons. If a team offers a 3rd or 4th or an NHL ready prospect for Timmons for sure id think about it but a 7th for a guy that plays NHL games isnt value. 7th is a step above waivers and im sure a right shot 25 year old Timmons doesn't make it through waivers.
Kampf may be overpayed and better slotted as a 4th line center but hes a really good 4th line center. Acciari is also a 4th line center at this point and is overpayed he has 55 gp and 10 pts what makes that 3rd line center numbers . Also there is probably 4 or 5 players like Acciari in the UFA market. Example piere ed bellemare does what Acciari brings and is a UFA that u can get on league minimum likley

UFA and some re-sign
Connor Timmons has more use to the Leafs as a 7th dman than a 7 rounder. Timmons has shifts where he looks like the best player on the ice and he looks very average. Insert eye role. if he stays healthy there is seems to be big potential in his game. Or is he just Ryan Murray 2.0. Best keep him if its a 7th return.
I would also prefer Kampf over Acciari. Acciari is older at 32 and has had a rough year in Pittsburgh with play and injuries. At this point in their Careers Kampf is the better athlete. At this point in his career Acciari might have trouble making Pittsburgh out of camp next season.

Can PIT fans agree on these things moving forward
Dubas signed a 7 year deal for a reason. We all know that its over for the Pens and what a great two decades its been. But the organization clearly set out a plan with the core and Dubas coming in as GM. Two years trying to strike gold with Sid and the core and 5 years to build again, hence the 7 years. Its year one of that. Expect a quiet offseason with short term deals to some Vets and younger players looking for a shot. They will be keeping all draft picks moving FWD. After next season the Pens will likely be making similar moves that Montreal has been making.
Is this the best thing for the organization? Maybe, the best thing might be trading their best assets now for a massive return and advancing the rebuild several years but none of us realistically expect that.

MORE MCMANNNNN
Nick Robertson cant keep a regular spot in the line up and is to this point a little above League minimum as value goes and u have him at 2 mill WHY?
Dewer and Benoit are about correct.
Liljegren at 3.5 mill on term is an over pay. He has been in the press box during the playoffs the past 3 seasons and is trending in that direction this year again. 200 to 300 games is when u know what a defenceman is going to be and he is about to hit 200 games. He hasnt to this point shown that he is any more than a 5 ,6,7 on an NHL team. If he wants more then 2mill on a long term deal he wont be a leaf.
Domi's term is crazy town. AAV is close tho.
Samsonov AAV is outrageous. He was almost out of the League a few weeks ago cleared waivers and u have him at over 3mill.
Tanev is an under pay by at least 1 mill likely more.

Leafs 24-25
Hayes isnt really a 2nd line center anymore and is aging. Leafs can find something SIMILAR most years on the UFA market without giving up assets. Robertson is cost controlled and has been productive in stints. He has a chance at out pacing Hayes in the points department as soon as next year. This trade is simply bad asset management from the leafs end.
Liljegren AAV at 2mill is bang on. Hes done nothing to prove he is any more then a 5,6,7 defenseman yo this point. There is a high possibility he isnt in the top 6 to start the playoffs. All other contracts are close aswell. Robertson might be overpayed. Id say hes closer to League minimum then 1.5mill

Leafs Lines For G1 of the Playoffs
Little refresh. Liljegren in game 5 vs FLA he was on the ice for 2 of 3 goals in limited minutes played. 1st goal he was caught in no mans land covering no one and the back door pass one timer was left open. 2nd goal he was on for he pinched into the net front looking for offense and got caught. Cousins comes down and scores series over. Liljegren 10ft behind on the back check. He has alot of trouble 50% of the night especially away games and has major issues with teams forcheck and breaking the cycle.

How the leafs should line up for playoffs
Liljegren was not a regular in last years playoffs and has done nothing this year to deserve that honor this year. Just to refresh our memories, in Game 5 alone last year vs FLA a 3-2 OT loss Liljegren was on the ice and could directly be connected to the cause of both FLA 1st goal and the OT winner. The 1st goal was a bouncing puck that he failed to handle, a forgiveable play the OT winner he was caught in front of FLAs net and Cousins burried the winner with him on the back check and a FWD covering him. He makes bad decisions with and without the puck mostly defensively and has a really tough time with the forecheck.

And yeah, zadorov is cheaper because he doesnt have a 2nd year of a bad contract.
Savard isnt the type of defender the leafs need because he sucks. Reaves is a big tough right shot too, but he's not what they needed either, the leafs need good defenders not bad ones.</div></div>
Half as good is a major concern. No way a player half as good as Shenn and Zadorov are even in the NHL. It My example was Savard with the extra year would be worth what Zadorov got earlier this year so in fact the Savard example is cheaper. Paying the same and getting the extra year. I DO NOT THINK THE LEAFS SHOULD TRADE FOR SAVARD. Savard type of player =Tanev, Tanev is a better version of Savard but the Same type of player and every insider in the hockey world has the Leafs involved in aquiring this type of player. Its ok to disagree with Leaf management about acquiring this type of player, u wouldnt be alone. However every hockey insider has the leafs in on A Savard Tanev shenn Gudas Edmondson type of defender. I Dont 100% agree with limiting to just these types of players nor do i think any of these player outside of Tanev should be a Leaf Target.

No thats wrong Shenn was cheap but Zadorov makes more then Savard at 3.75. Also saying Savard isnt half as good as Shenn or Zadorov is also way off. He might not be as good but half as good is a wild claim. A player half as good would be playing low level pro somewhere.

Savard is certainly a type the Leafs are looking for however Shenn was traded for a 3rd last season, zadorov a 3rd and 5th both on expiring deals. Savard has one year left at 3.5mil so one can say hes at least worth a 3rd + due to the extra year. Savard is worth no where near a 1st rounder. History tells us if he moves and im not sure the habs want to move him. He will get a 3rd and another later pick or a 3rd and a prospect.

Vegas, dallas declines, i doubt that gets crouse and Dubas hates players like him for some reason. There is probably no scenario where Domi doesn't resign in Toronto especially for at least 3 million. Reports are Jake guentzel turned down 10 mill already and is looking for similar to the Nylander contract. 8mill is way way way below market value.

I do like the idea of trading for Carrier. Hes currently 4th in share of ice on The Preds and would help the leafs. All these deals are fair market and have potential. The only question, how much better do these deals make the Leafs? It would be nice to keep Brodie and move him down with Liljegren or use the picks to grab a Veteran to play there. Lajoie in the top 6 to start the playoffs would give me night terrors

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>I think TOR's problem is coaching and roster structure. What Keefe wants to do really only works in the regular season, and even then it's inconsistent enough to cause mass frustrations. But it definitely doesn't work in the playoffs and isn't conducive in the least bit to letting dmen play to their strengths and be defensemen. I think there is a very good chance if Lily goes to another team, he would have a ton of success and solidify himself in a top 4 role.
I have a feeling that, even if TOR went out and got a guy like Tanev, he wouldn't do well.</div></div>
Bottom line is the team isnt very good. This year Matthews taveres marner willy are all 1st line players as expected. Knies , Bertuzzi Domi and Jarnkrok are all putting up 4th line numbers most nights and everyone else is basically NHL/AHL bubble players. The Defence has Rielly top pair and everyone else is a number 4/5/6/7 on any given night. Its hard to coach an island of misfit Toys and even harder to Build the team u want as a gm with barley an offseason under his belt. In my opion the Leafs need to keep assets this year, add veteran inexpensive players on expireing deals, make the playoffs and see what happens. Then give Treliving an offseason to build his team.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>I mean... His baseline stats are pretty solid, as are his advanced metrics, and they have been steadily improving, all at only only 24 years old. I'm not sure what you want from the kid. I guess it really depends how TOR projects him and if they would rather lock him up with term now or give him a bridge deal. If it's a 1 or 2 year bridge deal, sure $2.5 would probably do the trick. But anything more, and he should be getting an AAV the reflects his development curve and career projection, which both say he is going to be a solid NHL dman for years to come.
I think you are conflating TOR's cap situation and overall team performance with individual player values and performance. Also, him not being the kind of player TOR needs right now doesn't mean he isn't a good player. He could easily make that kind of money and be perfectly fine in a situation that is more suitable to his skillset. Speaking as if he is some awful bust is being way overblown. There is definitely value there that can be leveraged via trade, at the very least, if TOR doesn't want to keep him around.</div></div>
I never said bust. I said I ike the player. I usually give defenceman 300 NHL games to show who they are and are going to be moving fwd. Liljegren will hit 300 next year. Entering the last 3rd of that 100game evaluation he has been becoming an everyday NHL player in a bottom 6 role. With sheltered mins is showing ok avanced numbers but has yet to be trusted by the coach for any length of time. Unless something drastic happens in his development, which it can he is projecting to be a bottom pair NHL player. That by no means is a bust, getting regular mins out of a late 1st round pick is what teams want.
At this point 100% accurate to say hes 24 years of age and approaching the he is what he is stage of his development. Projecting him to be much more than hes already is would be irresponsible.

Maybe, but those comparisons will soon be outdated. AFP Analytics has him at $3.35M x 3 years, and I think that is conservative. With the pandemic escrow being paid off and the cap going up, the squeeze on player AAV's will likely be easing up significantly. Considering his age and performance, he could maybe get something in that $3-5M range. He has been more solid than TOR fans give him credit for, and he is still pretty young.</div></div>
Liljegren will make the same percentage of the cap that he currently makes as he has done nothing to out play his current evaluation. So if the cap is 88mill his value would be around 2.5 mill give or take. He does not deserve a raise that is performance based. Any team that gives this player over 3 million dollars is asking for issues.

Timothy Liljegren is not a 4.5 mill defenseman. Ethan Bear just signed for 2+mill,
Kandre Miller signed for 3.8mill, Will Borgen for 2.7mill. All of these players are at least on par with what Liljegren brings. Im ok with the player and what he brings but hes a #5 #6 or #7 on any good NHL defence core. Lets ask what has the player done to separate himself from the player he was last season. Hes done very little with an ice time and role increase and has been dialed back on all fronts recently. On overdrive radio yesterday they have Rielly Brodie McCabe and Benoit as guys that are staying in the lineup moving fwd and into the deadline. Giordano and Liljegren are where the improvement is going to be. Liljegren could find himself in the press box much like last year and Leaf fans want to pay him 4.5 MILL WITH TERM. A player that brings what Liljegren currently brings can be found every offseason in the UFA market.
